Rhoades Builders

We used Nathan Rhoades of Rhoades Builders for a home remodel, including kitchen and a half-bathroom, and I strongly advise anyone considering him to choose a different contractor. The project was supposed to last one month, but it remained unfinished over two months later, at which point Nathan walked away with thousands of dollars we paid him for work not performed. Nathan agreed to repay us, but three months later (about five since the project start date), he still has our money. The best word to describe him is dishonest. Nathan failed to meet many of the agreed-upon deadlines, giving us a number of excuses that, in hindsight, are not believable. For example, a large portion of the unreturned money was for custom-sized cabinet doors, which Nathan claimed he paid to his sub. When it finally came time to install, he told us the cabinet guys sold our doors to someone else and didn’t have them. It seems highly unlikely that custom-sized doors would fit another kitchen. I think a more likely explanation is that Nathan never paid them and still has (or has spent elsewhere) our money. As Nathan is no longer responding to calls, emails, or text messages, we may now be stuck with legal recourse as our only remedy. Vet your contractor options more carefully than we did.
