"I charged $275 to repair a 2 year [Member Information Removed] system that was only operating in the heating mode, no cooling? Upon arrival, the home owner told me the company that installed the system has been out 4 times to fix it and they wanted someone else to look at it. I started in the attic to verify the furnace and ductwork were sized properly, that the zone control & motorized dampers were operating properly, I went through all the control wiring and tested the auxiliary heating circuits, tested the external static pressure (.61”wc) to verify it was within range for the equipment, showed them how to install their own wifi thermostats in the future with instructions on how easy it would be, and then tested the heat pump. I found bad wiring to the reversing valve was the culprit and fixed it. I showed the home owners that the system was also about 25% low on refrigerant and that it would be an extra charge to fix that as well. I provided estimates to change out the Lennox evaporator coil that is under a parts warranty; but labor, refrigerant, and miscellaneous materials that are needed to complete the repair are not covered. The home owners were going to call the company that installed the system and have them do the repairs under warranty since they installed the system. Yesterday we received a call from the home owners that the installing company was not going to warranty an further repairs and bluntly told us that they’ve already paid $275 and wanted the system fixed at no further cost. We politely declined."
