The installation went very well. They arrived early and started to work right away. They kept me informed of their progress as they went. When I asked questions, they took the time to explain the process and why different heads were being placed in the locations. I was pleased with the installation and the cleanup. I would recommend these guys to anyone because of the team. On another note, the price was very reasonable too.

The installation went well. The follow or request of service after has been terrible! Juan is unresponsive. Sets appointments and doesn't show nor inform you that he won't make it. When I msg him to see what happened, he said short if staff. That's understandable. Then asked to reschedule, silence until I msg again. Pretty much stated my job is not worth his time. So expect this kind of service after his performed the initial installation.
Response from Colonial Irrigation& Maintenance
"The installation was well. 2 years later you contact me forna repair job. I responded that we are currently swamped and cannot get to you anytime soon. I told you a future date over a month later I could get to you if everything goes smooth from now to then. Unfortunately no job has taken two days to complete and we have fallen behind because of the ground being hard to dig through. Sorry but with this extreme heat we cannot catch up to the work load we had at the moment and still have."

After working with contractors for 20 years, this company did what they promissed. They showed up (Memorial Day) on time, worked all day in the heat, and completed the job on time. What a great group of guys to work with. I would use them again and recomend them. After getting 3 bids, they were the best on price and I feel like I got my monies worth. Juan even programmed and gave me a crash course on how to operate it. Thanks Colonial......its nice having a green yard!

Juan from Colonial Irrigation was a great contractor. He came out to estimate the job and was very communicative throughout the entire process, answering all of my questions and explaining all of the details of the project. Once the install was complete, he took the time to help me setup the controller and explain how it works and helped me program the system. Once we programmed the system, he walked me around the install, showing me how the zones were setup where the sprinkler heads were located and where the rain sensor was. All and all Colonial Irrigation exceeded my expectations and was easy to work with.

Juan was and team came a little early and started working immediately. Everything went smoothly other than the fact that they dug into my internet cable line (totally not their fault - the internet company marked my lawn incorrectly and did a terrible job running the cables in the ground). Luckily only the outer plastic sheathing was cut and the inside was still intact. Juan was able to work around it and took extra caution when digging in my back yard. We have about a quarter acre back yard and the install took about 6 hours. They cleaned up any dirt from the sidewalks and driveway and even showed me how to use, test and set my new Rachio unit as well as maintaining/checking the nozzles. Overall, Colonial Irrigation did a wonderful job and I highly recommend them to anyone wanting to install a new sprinkler system. One thing to note is that they are a small family-run business and only perform one install a day. If you are to go with them, it's better to contact them a month or two in advance.

Juan is outstanding. He was a little early to every meeting. Once we agreed to move forward with the project we set a start date and he was there at 6:30am and completed the job in one day. The quality of the work was very good and they did a tremendous job cleaning up. They took extra care in putting the sod back and really did a great job!! I would highly recommend Colonial Irrigation.

It went great. This business is family operated. Juan and his crew are extremely courteous, professional, and provided quality work at a reasonable cost. They came in early and finished the project within hours. He took the time out to make me understand all the settings, aspects and how the zones were placed. Will be hiring him soon for some drainage work. Cannot go wrong with this company, they are honest, dependable, and provide quality work.

I received quotes from 4 companies and chose Colonial Irrigation for 2 reasons. 1. They were the lowest bid. 2. Juan was the most professional of the 4 people I met with. He came to look at the property and sent me a written estimate the same day. He responded to all of my questions in writing and walked the property with me to explain how everything would be mapped.
On the day of the installation Juan and his team arrived promptly at 7am and had everything installed, adjusted and cleaned up before noon. Everyone knew their job, were polite and very efficient. Juan explained the controller, valves, sensors etc... and again walked the property with me so that I could see each zone operating. He then made sure I knew about the 2 year warranty and thanked me for the business.

In short, Juan and his team did a great job and I will hire them again if I ever need irrigation installation or service.

Juan and his team did a great job. You could hardly tell where they installed the system once they were through. They covered the entire yard (and we have an oddly shaped back yard due to being on a cul-de-sac) and flower beds. Juan explained how it worked and I was able to show my husband when he got home. We are very happy with this company.

They were great. The service was personal. The way they came into the house and did the quote, and the way they explained everything stood out. They were very polite. They responded to all calls, and followed up. They were here when they said they would be here.

I called 3 different companies for estimates. two of them are top reviewed on Angie's List. Both of them failed to respond quickly and required me to call again to just schedule for an estimate (Check my other reviews on these two companies for detail). Colonial Irrigation's Review isn't the best on Angie's List, but I took neighbor's recommendation and gave them a call. Apparently they have installed quite many systems in my neighborhood according to my neighbor. Juan from Colonial quickly responded my call and scheduled an in-house estimate. He arrived early and waited outside for me to get home from work. After he laid out the zone plan for my lawn, I had couple of questions and he answered both of them with great details. Then, he walked me throughout the lawn to show me where each zone will be and why they are grouped this way. He patiently waited until I fully approved his plan. The whole meeting is over an hour and he didn't show any sign of in a hurry to leave. We agreed on the price and no down payment is required. I was told that I only pay when I'm fully satisfied with his work after the installation is done. The crews came in at 7:00 AM on time on the scheduled day. They worked all day without anyone at home supervising. By the time I was home, they have finished the system and was washing my driveway and walkway. His crew showed me how to operate control panel and answered all questions. They then showed me where each zone is and how spray heads were installed. Until I'm completely happy with their work, I paid them and sent them on their way home. Overall, I'm extremely happy with their work. I'm a true believer of family business. As some other companies have forgotten where they came from after they grew larger, Juan and his crews have proved me right again and given me the faith to continue belief. What I would suggest Angie's List members do is not to discard a company just because of one negative review or doesn't have many reviews. Their are many great family businesses out there and sometimes, you just need to take a leap of faith to find it out yourself or get recommendations from friends or neighbors. More reviews don't necessarily mean a great company and I can prove you that when you read my reviews on the other two irrigation companies.

They came recommended by someone who had a sprinkler system installed.  They promptly visited the house and scheduled me for their first availability (2 weeks out).  They promptly returned phone calls and emails, arrived and finished on time. They took the extra step to install the controller where I wanted it, covered the entry hole and wires with pvc pipe, added a pop-up head to water my porch plants (not part of the original estimate). The crew worked hard all day, taking breaks only for water and lunch, cleaned up, and promptly resolved a problem to my satisfaction.

Juan Tejeda holds a Landscape Irrigator license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Unfortunately he does not comply with the rules for installing irrigation systems that were established by the TCEQ. I am specifically referring to document RG-466 which defines how a system is to be installed. You can do an internet search for RG-466 to confirm my complaints.
I negotiated a turn key price with Mr. Tejada to install an irrigation system for my entire yard. The contract states that Colonial Irrigation will "provide 100% coverage to all irrigated areas" and that "All installation will comply with TCEQ standards". Within 24 hours of the installation I sent Mr. Tejeda an e-mail requesting that he send me an As Built Plan of the system. He responded a few days later stating that "I didn't do a plan for your house. The system was designed the same day we were there." I already knew the TCEQ mandates that a plan be prepared and provided to the homeowner.
Shortly thereafter I took advantage of a service provided by my MUD district to have my irrigation system inspected for maximum efficiency. The inspector advised me of several areas in need of improvement. I contacted Mr. Tejeda in writing and provided him with a copy of the inspection as well as a link to RG-466. I informed him that I had read RG-466 and that I had found areas of the installation that several of the TCEQ requirements had not been met. I asked that he read RG-466 so we could discuss my concerns.
Mr. Tejeda called me the same day I sent the e-mail. He asked me what I wanted. When I asked him if he read my e-mail and he responded that he had and he again asked me what I wanted. I asked if he had read RG-466 and he told me he did not need to. When I mentioned that I did not receive a plan he told me that I did not pay for a plan. When I told him that I thought we needed an additional sprinkler head because the front right corner of the lawn was receiving 50% less water than the adjacent section he told me that I did not pay for the sprinkler head. I reminded him that he promised 100% coverage and told me I had 100% coverage.
Since my last conversation with Mr. Tejeda I have found that there are five sprinkler heads that were installed too close to the driveway. They are between 1 1/4 and 3 inches from the driveway. TCEQ requires them to be a minimum of 4 inches from a hardscape.
If you are looking for a company who will adhere to the TCEQ standards I would not hire Colonial Irrigation.
Response from Colonial Irrigation& Maintenance
"After talking to tceq they agreed with me where there bare too many tree roots I don't have to put a rotor there. Property was getting 100% coverage. As to the heads not being 4 inch off the concrete just saying soil shift is not recommended to cut your sod after sprinkler installation so that the heads don't move. As to tceq standard I complied. If I didn't comply I wouldn't hold a license and they wouldn't have renewed my license. We don't cut corners we get the job done quickly in one day and have the best prices in town. My company has become one of the top family own business in the Houston metro area."

The job was done very professionally. They went over and above to make sure everything was in good working order and  water reached all the spots. It was a relief -and they stated this upfront- that they were not charging by the hour but rather by the job. Overall, a very good experience and great value for the money.
