I had been planning a kitchen remodel for years. To that end, I looked at cabinets and under counter lighting in numerous places, including magazines. I had determined that I wanted LED lighting due to their energy efficiency and long life. That decision helped narrow my search considerably because not everyone carries LED under counter/cabinet lights. Two of my cabinets have glass doors, and I wanted LED lights for inside those cabinets also. LED lights are fairly expensive, as lights go, but their life expectancy is the longest by far of all types of lights, at present, and they produce very little heat. I looked at LED lights in several places but didn?t find many that looked good, would provide the type of light I wanted, and fit my budget. Living in Rowlett and having been in Rockwall Lighting several times, I opted to checkout their offerings. With the help of Doloris, who no longer owns the business, I found exactly the right lights there. I can?t say enough about how helpful she and the rest of the staff were. Once I decided on the lights, she contacted the manufacturer, American Lighting, and made sure we ordered all the necessary components. My electrician had never installed lights like these, and Doloris made copies of all the documentation Rockwall Lighting had in addition to getting me the email address of American?s customer support. The under counter lights, called Ruler lights, are an inch wide, 3/8 inch deep, and come in 2, 3, 4, and 5 light lengths, which can be joined in combination to make at least a 12 light section for a single driver. I chose the dimmable driver. The low profile was exactly what I wanted; you only know they're there when they're on. I had them mounted two inches from the front of the cabinets, and the amount of light they provide is marvelous. At night I dim them and turn off the overhead light. The lights I chose for the glass-fronted cabinets are called Bullet lights. They?re mounted recessed inside of the top of the cabinets near the front. They also are low profile, and small. The hole for mounting them is just one inch, and the surrounding trim probably only extends an inch beyond the light. I chose not to use dimmable drivers for the Bullet lights. They provide exactly the right amount of light to show off my various decorative plates, vases, and knickknacks. Doloris also helped me with my cabinet hardware. I had looked in numerous places and not been able to find something I liked within my budget until I looked in Rockwall Lighting. Doloris spent considerable time showing me the various hardware offerings. Once I made a decision, she handled the order. I was very pleased with the service I received at Rockwall Lighting. Finally, I?d like to say a few words in behalf of American Lighting?s customer service. I ended up having to call them for help with the installation because the documentation we had was not enough for the electrician. The lady with whom I spoke is one of the most knowledgeable and helpful customer service reps I?ve ever encountered. She sent me additional documentation, which was extremely helpful, then talked me through the documentation when I called back later. I wish every company?s customer service was as good.
Description of Work: I’m woefully behind in reviewing several companies that have done excellent work for me during my kitchen remodel in Dec 2011/Jan 2012. The kitchen remodel involved custom cabinets, granite countertops, LED under counter lighting, tile backsplash, small repairs, and installation of a new range hood, garbage disposal, and dishwasher. Five companies were involved in bringing my dream kitchen to life: Hamilton Interior Finishes, Walden Cabinets, StoneTex, Rockwall Lighting, and Hamilton Electric. Craig Hamilton of Hamilton Interior Finishes was general contractor for the job. Rockwall Lighting supplied both my under counter and cabinet lights and my cabinet hardware. The lights were installed by Hamilton Electric of Allen. I am reviewing the other four companies under their own names, but I was extremely pleased with all involved!
