Fire House Fence and Construction

We hired Firehouse for a huge project of building a stone retaining wall, then back-filling inside the wall to bring our hillside lot much closer to level, then installing a BOB privacy fence mounted in the stone, and a custom-designed and fabricated sliding driveway gate. Their design and workmanship is excellent, they use top shelf materials, and, thanks in part, I'm sure, to getting on their calendar early in the season, the work was completed in a very timely manner, with no appreciable delays caused by anything but the weather. We got three estimates for the project, and for the first time in our lives, gave the job to the HIGHEST bidder. That is because, in addition to admiring their work elsewhere around town, owner Zach Simons is the sole point of contact for the estimate process on the entire project. His competitors were like, "Yeah, we can estimate the wood today, then we'll send a stone guy next week, and a gate-design guy the week after that." (Slight exaggeration there.) We were much more comfortable working with a single source for the whole project. Yes, Firehouse charges a premium, but we got what we paid for. Highly recommended.

Zach was good to work with and set up the service. The workers were polite as well. The staining was done a few days later and was completed timely.

Zach is a firefighter who does this on the side. For the most part, we like our fence and we got a fair price, but his business practices could be improved. He didn't come when he said he would and he never called to let us know. There was a delay in the middle of the project but he didn't contact us. He was also later than he had said to pick up all the trash. We e-mailed him what we wanted (posts 6 feet apart) and he agreed to it but when it came time he backpedaled a bit and said that the quote didn't cover that (so he compromised and did 6 feet on one side and 8 feet on the other). Probably just a communication error but not professional. He left a gap in both gates which lets people see in which I don't like but otherwise the fence looks fine. If you want a nice fence and aren't too picky about whenever he shows up, you'll probably be happy with him.
