Doris Younger Designs

Everything turned out beautiful.

I started with an inspiration picture and contacted several remodeler's. I had worked with Doris in updating my living room and master bedroom that past year. When I mentioned that I wanted to update the master bathroom she asked if she could make a bid. I thought sure, but I wasn't sure if she would able to pull together such a large project. But I figured, the more bids the better. The first thing she did was to take my husband and I to some stores in the design district. We shopped at Fergusons' for plumbing materials, I let her know our must haves, steam shower, clawfoot tub with an airbath option. We then went to Antique Flooring and looked at different options for marble. I preferred to go high end with the marble so we selected Statuary and also a basketweave marble tile (you will not find this at your local tile stores). While the other remodeling bids just wanted pictures and measurements, she was focused on the materials that I wanted. Based on my inspiration picture, we determined that we would not have to do any major plumbing relocations, the bath/shower and vanities were going to stay pretty much in the same location. I also decided that I wanted to update my master closet at the same time. I knew we would be under construction for awhile - so it only made sense to update everything. Doris introduced me to a general contractor that she had done several projects with and expressed great confidence in his ability to get the job completed and done right. Doris did drawings so we had an idea of how the space would look. After we agreed on the drawings, Doris introduced me to Booe Construction, LLC GC - Brantley Booe. He came over to the space and looked over the designs. Over a period of several weeks he brought over his subs, plumbing, tile, carpenters etc., he then provided a bid by sub and by his fee. He made it clear that he would be there to ensure that the subs completed the job to our satisfaction. We started the process around the first of October 2012, we received the bids the final week of January 2013 and they started construction 2 weeks later. The GC/Plumber and Doris all met at Ferguson's to ensure that our material choices would work and answered the subs questions regarding the specifications of the products we had chosen. So the process was long, but I was truly looking for perfection. While construction was on-going Doris went to several stone yards with us until we found just the right slab for the counters - as usual when I wasn't sure or hesitant Doris was very good at pointing us in the right direction and always confirmed if we were going in the right direction and that it would work with the design. Gave me confidence to make the right choices. Doris came by at various stages of the project, was always available if I had questions and worked very well with the GC to ensure that I received the product that I wanted. So my materials were approx. $33,000 and the labor and GC ran approx $28,000 for a master bath/closet remodel, the original bathroom was a gut job and down to the studs in some areas. There were so many minute details and fine craftsmanship I wish I could post the photo's. We went from a 90's purple & brass nightmare to an incredible white marble master bathroom that is better than any bathroom I have seen in the finest luxury hotels or even mansions. The cost while it might seem high to some, was actually very reasonable, I was actually quoted higher prices by other remodeler's and the "estimate" only provided for standard materials - or what I call builder grade. I can't say enough about Doris Younger and the GC. I'll be writing his review next.
