Dal Star Services

Two different times we called Dal Star Services, and both times we couldn't have been more pleased with the service.  After recently purchasing a house, we first found the air conditioner to not be working.  Mike came out and found that the panel to the unit was not in place, which prevented the unit from coming on as a safety check.  He did not charge us for this visit, saying that he didn't actually fix anything.  Well we were impressed.  The second time we called, we asked him to see if he could get the upstairs thermostat working and tied into the system.  Mike came, checked things over, and made it so the thermostat would work.  We asked that the dampers be hooked up to the upstairs, however he said it would need a new part that he wasn't sure was now available.  He did not charge us for this visit, either, but he would do some research to see if the part could be ordered and installed.  It is a rare person that is this honest, especially in today's market.  Dal Star Services is now our preferred HVAC company and we want to thank them for their integrity.

Called Mike and he came out the next week.  He was on-time and checked the freon in my system as it was blowing cool, not cold air.  He found it low, so I asked him to add freon.  I hadn't needed to add freon for a few years, so decided to just add more.  He checked compression and the rest of the system and found it was all working OK, just the low freon.  He added, then tested, and cold air was back.  I would have no problem using Mike again, he did a great job.

We've used Mike at Dal Star Services for several years. He is absolutely the best AC service we've ever found! Not only is he punctual and never wastes your time. He is honest, reliable and exceedingly reasonable in pricing. Mike has serviced 2 homes for us. The newest home had some previous AC issues (he did not install the original system) and he's carefully inspected the system and helped out every time we've needed him. At our previous home, the AC needed to be replaced but we didn't have the money at the time (several years ago). Mike worked with us to piece our system together to keep it in fantastic working order until we could replace the system. He could have tried to upsell us and convince us we had to have a new system, to make himself money. However, he did not. He listened to us, understood our budget and our needs and worked within those constraints. He is the most honest service technician we've ever worked with. The only complaint I have is that he's not a plumber and electrician, too. I'd happily use him for everything house related if I possibly could. You can't go wrong with Dal Star.

He responded quickly to our call. Arrived on time. He is professional and courteous. He left things neat and tidy. Mike's charges were  very reasonable. Completed the entire job in 2 quick visits. 

He gave a first time customer a discount and it was like 89$. He is really good and he answered the phone when I called. He came right out. His father had passed away and he could not come a couple of days. He said all my air conditioning needed was to be tightened. He climbed up the ceiling and fixed it.

There was a little concern on my new self installed  thermostat but this  was resolved   by the manufacture Tech support . Mike contacted me to follow up . Will use Dal Star again when needed.

Mike came out and confirmed what I thought. Condenser fan motor bearing going dry.
He replaced the motor, but after starting the ac unit up, I mentioned that it sounded louder. Mike took off the motor again and said he thought the fan hub was going bad. I told him that I could replace it and he gave me a business that carried them. When he came inside with the invoice, I let him listen to the noise inside the house. He agreed that it was loud and said he would go get a new fan.
Less than two hours later, he was back with a new fan and installed it along with checking the freon and adding some more to the system. When I tried to pay him for the fan and freon he said he may have damaged the fan when he removed it and not to worry about it or the freon.
Mike is the guy you want to call for your HVAC needs.

Our heating system would not come on one morning so we found Dal Star on Angies LIst and called them. Came out the next day.

The repairman found the problem within 15 or 20 minutes and told us it would be fairly easy to fix.

He needed to replace the capacitor on the motor so that it would start. He said it was not done right in the first place because they had used two smaller parts instead of one larger one. He said if he had the right part on his truck would fix it better than it was. Otherwise he could do ti the way it was before or we could wait a day to get the better part.

Luckily he had the right part and it was all done in about an hour total.

First class service and he was good about explaining what was wrong and how he fixed it.

The service and job were excellent. Anytime I have called Dal Star, Mike is here that day if not within hours.

Another contractor abandoned me after repeated attempts to repair a two-year old air-conditioner unit still under warranty.  Dal Star showed up about two hours after I called on a Saturday afternoon.  Mike checked out the non-working system and confirmed pretty much what I already knew; repeated attempts by the previous contractor to repair system coils made another repair attempt "iffy" at best.
Mike checked on the warranty for me and confirmed  that the compressor was still under warranty.  He offered to replace the compressor, attempt another coil repair and replace the expensive "older-type" refrigerant.  Or he had options available for a new system, with a new warranty using the newer (and cheaper) coolant.  It was an easy decision.  Since I had already been through three repair attempts on the system that didn't work, and there were no guarantees, I was ready to move on.  After he quoted me a price of $3,098 for a new 5 ton split system, I elected to have Dal Star install a new Goodman system at the quoted price.  Mike told me he had "name" brand equipment (more expensive) for sale also, but the Goodman system was made by one of the name brands and was much cheaper.  (My internet research confirmed what he told me about Goodman; I found very good reviews.)
The complete job took about three hours, including the installation of a new thermostat.  It works great.  I sure is nice to have a new system in place ... that works!  Two-thumbs up to Mike and Dal-Star Services!
Four additional comments.  First, Dal-Star is a smaller operation.  That could be good and bad.  You know the owner, his prices are very competitive, no high pressure; and he does good work.  I could imagine that at certain times, his cup might runneth over.  But that's just conjecture, he was lightning fast with my service call. 
Second, I've dealt with one of the bigger boys in the industry before, and it was like dealing with an unscrupulous used car salesman.  If you've dealt with one of those you know what I mean!  Mike offered options and I picked what worked for me. 
Third, after I paid him for the initial service call he found out that I located him on Angie's List.  He offered to give me the Angie's List discount; and handed me my check back.  I declined ... he earned it.
Fourth, there are a lot of fine businesses on Angie's List with good reviews.  One lady apparently didn't share my experience with Dal Star and gave them a rating of F.  Mike's response to her review prompted my call.  If you've got kids, especially older kids, you might be able to appreciate his reply.  Dal Star Services receives an A review from me ... and for good reason.  Thanks Mike!

Great!!  He came out very quickly. Was able to work us into his schedule with 2 hours.  We had One Hour Heating and Air come out and do one of their semi annual maintenance checks. They indicated they found cracks in the heat exchanges for both units. They sent out 2 "field supervisors" and indicated we needed repairs costing between $6,000 and $13,000 depending on the type of repairs.  I quickly looked up Dal Star on Angie's list ("A" rated). I used an online coupon where 2nd opinions cost ZERO!  He used a camera and indicated if this was his house he would not be making any repairs. Bottom line, One Hour appears to be way off on their diagnosis and a rip off. Not feeling good about One Hour  (soon to be called "On Time Experts" per the business cards provided). Feeling great about Dal Star!!!

I found Mike on Angie's list and noticed he was nearby. After calling him he was here in about 15 minutes and had the whole problem solved 30 minutes later. I never mentioned any discount Mike brought it up and gave me a discount. He was very professional and I would use him again and recommend him to my friends and family.

Business Owner is the worker! Nice guy, highly knowledgeable, and well spoken. I called and he was there within an hour! The job was done within 30 minutes! Thanks Mike!!

We have no complaints about their services.  They are very knowledgeable and clearly explain the work that they do.  Furthermore, they are extremely quick to respond and do excellent work for fair prices.

Excellent. Mike is very professional. He arrived on time and diagnosed the problem as a bad capacitor immediately. He had the part in his truck and replaced it right away.

Came out quick and got our unit going again.

It was getting hot in the house and after checking noticed the downstairs unit was not blowing any cold air.  The fan was on but not anything but warm air.  Went outside and noticed the compressor(?) was not running.  The house has two units.  One for upstairs was doing it's thing but the other was dead.  Searched the internet and noticed DalStar address was in Rockwal and less than a mile away so I called.  Mike, the owner answered and said he could come by as soon as he was done with his present client in Garland.  Well he said it would be about two hours and he returned my call in only an hour to ask if it was okay to come early.  When he arrived on time I was happy to see he was very professional, polite and had all the right equipment to check the system. First thing I told him was I thought I needed a compressor or whatever the motor outside was and he told me to let him check everything first.  After only about 20 minutes he came to me with the news.  A burnt wire was the culprit.  He said he went ahead and fixed it already and was going to check a few other things to make sure there was nothing else wrong.  I was ready for the "add-on" sales after that but he came back and said everything else was fine.  He mentioned i should make sure to put bleach in the drain pipe in the attick once a month or so and the ubiquitous warning to change air filters but didn't try to sell me anything.  He said to call him if I ever had any problems and was glad he could help.  I wanted to post this because I was ripe for the picking and he didn't abuse my ignorance about what the cause of my outage was.

My A/C went out in the middle of summer last year.   The outside unit was buzzing very loud, the fan stopped moving, and I had no cold air at all inside the house.  I called Rick who came out right away.  He fixed it that day and explained that there was an additional part that might soon need replacement.   I decided to wait until later to replaced it, once the part actually stopped working.   A few weeks later,  just as he predicted, that part went out and the A/C went out again.   He came right back, got the new part and fixed it in no time.  I was very impressed with his skills and abilities.  He is very knowledgeable, knows exactly what he is doing, was right on time, and is one of the most honest workmen I have encountered. I have called other A/C companies in the past for estimates (for example, to add another air return and to check the system) but they have all tried to get me to buy a new HVAC system even while my current system was still running fine.  Needless to say, I did not hire any of them them to do any work for me.   Climate Systems, on the other hand, was very honest and did not try to sell me a new unit.  Said there was nothing much wrong with my system, it was old, but could keep running a few more years.  Excellent work and customer service by Climate Systems.  I highly recommend them.    

Overall, the experience has been good! This company is a lot better than the other company I had worked with previously.  Rick is very honest and will tell you things that may need to be done in the future, but isn’t pushy. He never tries to sell me anything I don’t need and has done a great job!

He arrived same day, knew his trade well, was familiar with the equipment, and could answer my questions clearly.
