Short answer: Based on my experience, I am giving them five stars. I wish they were closer to me (I chose them for proximity to my brother, because his car was the primary reason I was looking for a shop).
The long answer: This is my first experience with (Richard) Brown's Auto Service. I went there primarily because of their reviews on Angie's List and Yelp. I was impressed by the good reviews and the bad reviews, the latter of which he seemed to handle well in terms of customer satisfaction and follow-up. He seemed unusually committed to insuring his customers were treated fairly.
I had two cars serviced here.
On a 1998 Saturn, which I used to own, but gave to my brother, we took it in for a variety of problems - squealing belts, loose brakes, etc. We had the following work done on it:
- Serpentine belt tensioner replaced
- Master cylinder replaced
- Catalytic converter replaced
- Fuel tank pressure sensor
He charged $98 for diagnostics. I am OK with that because their labor on the rest of the work was not excessive. Many places include and quot;freeand quot; diagnostics if you do the work there, but that is because they have so much slop in their labor cost that they can afford it.
My brother was unable to drop off the car for prolonged periods, which made things problematic, but Richard handled it well and was very patient and considerate.
I had them do the alignment on my 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid. There's really not much to say on an alignment. It cost $120. They don't do the alignments on site. Rather, they check out the car, then send it to a partner for the alignment, then check the results sent back with the car after the alignment. I may have been able to get it done more cheaply, but I am confident in the process they use and, frankly, with the way they handled the work on my brother's car, I was happy to give them more work.
I spent a lot of time talking with Richard throughout the process and unlike most mechanics with whom I have dealt over the decades, what he said made sense or was reassuring, as opposed to sending off warning flags in my head. Of course, time will tell the tale, but everything looks good now. I will update this review as needed.

I joined Angie's List specifically to find a great mechanic for my car. Great reviews and location led me to try out Brown's Auto Center in Grapevine. It is the best decision I could have made. My customer experience, and the service they provided, was simply outstanding. The situation with my car required a couple of follow-ups post repair, which provided a perfect opportunity to test the boundaries of Brown's Auto Center's customer service ethic and approach. In each and every interaction, I came away with the feeling that my needs were of utmost importance to them and that they would not close the file, so to speak, until they were sure that I was satisfied with the work they did. Needless to say, I intend to continue giving them my business. My only regret is that I didn't find them sooner. If you are looking for a new provider, look no further!

I have used Brown’s extensively and I have not received any better service at any other auto maintenance shop. This issue I a great example of Brown’s service. How many other shops in the area would offer to help my buddy from South Carolina over the phone who never spent a nickel and Brown’s.
Once again great service from these guys.

They were extremely friendly and knowledgable and clearly went out of their way to make the job cost us as little as possible. After we had paid our invoice for repairing the light, they looked it over one last time, thought it looked like the labor was too high and gave us an immediate credit for the different. Note that if they hadn't told me I never would have noticed or known.
Also, the tire for the Ford Focus was discontinued -- so they called around until the found one and then drove all the way out to Lewisville to get it. I'm pretty sure another mechanic would have just told us we needed to buy a whole new set of tires!
For the valve cover replacement, they called several different places to find the lowest price for the part.
I absolutely left feeling like they were focused on keeping my costs down as much as possible. But I also left thinking that they really know what they are talking about and have a great deal of expertise in what they do. They described in detail the work they were doing and why they were doing it they way they they they were. It was over my head, but they had clearly put thought into it.
Which is to say that going forward, they are my and quot;go toand quot; people when I need any of my car fixed.

My radiator had a leak and had to be replaced. They were pretty upfront about how much it was going to cost, labor and parts wise. My car also didn't disable the right turn signal light after turning, (I had to do this manually each time), so I figured that with the prices they gave me, that they could also take care of this. Lastly, I had been meaning to replace the struts on my hood with some new ones that I got on eBay, but never had the time. I asked them to do this for me. Got the car back in fine condition. I was missing a hubcap key that prevented them from rotating my tires, but they gave me some good advice on how to find a replacement for cheap. All in all left with a pretty good impression on how they took care of me.

I've been looking for an auto mechanic in the Grapevine area since we moved here last year and I finally found someone that I trust with my car. Honest, reliable and fairly priced. It's a simple shop with low overhead and my understanding is that the owner, who also works the reception desk and repairs vehicles has been doing so for 25 years. They seem to have all the correct (not to mention expensive tools) needed to fix a BMW so I can confortably say that I trust Brown's Auto service and would refer them to others.

They are an awesome auto place. We love them. They charged me between $500 and $600 for the last service. They are very trustworthy. I don't believe they try to rip us off. They can give us options on high-end and get the real parts or we can go get it. They give you options other than just one way. They will tell you if you can get the Honda parts for it or just the regular parts which would save us money. They give options to save money. They care about the customers and they want us to come back. We go to Brown's Auto when anything happens. We have not had any problems with them. We feel comfortable that they are not ripping us off. They tell us what's going on and other options and that's what we need. I think we got them off of Angie's List. We would use their services in the future too.

I had gotten some work done at a different mechanic on my Ford Ranger in the past 6 months, and it had been leaking oil since they had seen it. I had been told by the mechanic that performed the work that the current leak was somehow unrelated to the gaskets he had replaced. I decided to finally take my truck to Brown's to get a second opinion. I knew there were some other issues on the truck that also needed to be addressed such as new breaks, and new tie-rods. David, the gentleman behind the counter at Brown's politely informed me that they would be more than happy to look at everything on the truck and provide an estimate of all the work that needed to be done and what it would cost. Not only did he confirm that the leak was related to the work the prior mechanic had done, but that the ball joints that the other mechanic was supposed to have replaced were completely shot and unsafe. All in all, Brown's recommended that I replace the upper and lower ball joints, tie-rods, replace the oil-pan gasket, new brakes and rotors on the front, and resurfacing of the rotors and new breaks on the back. He took the time to explain to me exactly what was wrong and even offered to take me out into the garage to show me the ball joints. All in all, the work was estimated to cost me $2300.00, which is a lot of money, but I also knew that all of it was needed as I had been putting off any kind of work for quite some time. I felt they gave me a fair estimate. I decided not to get the work done as I was preparing for a cross-country trip and decided to get a newer vehicle instead, but would have absolutely gotten the work done at Brown's had I decided to keep the truck. I would absolutely take my vehicles there in the future. They only charged me about 60 bucks for the estimate even though it took a lot of time to address all the issues.

Finally, I have a place that I can take my vehicles to be worked on without worrying about the service being sub-par at best and then being over charged. This is the 2nd time I have used Brown’s and I am very satisfied with their service. Both times the service was performed in a timely manner as well as much cheaper than I expected. Basically, they don’t throw parts at the problem they actually fix what it wrong. Also, the technician that worked on both my vehicles actually came and spoke with me before I left their parking lot. He gave a rundown of what he did to the vehicle and what was NOT needed on the vehicle.

I had a great experience with this shop. Price was much less than expected. The car was repaired the same day I dropped it off. I will use Brown's for further auto repairs that I don't care to tackle myself.

Dave figured out the problem with the Focus before he even looked at it (had had similar experience with another Ford Focus). Transmission mount worn out, metal was rubbing against metal. The car runs ever so smoothly now. The Lexus needed fluids replaced (per the dealer). Dave found that not ALL the fluids needed to be replaced. The service for replacing the fluids was $300 less than what the dealer quoted me. All in all, it was expensive, but Dave actually gave me COUPONS to use and saved me $50 on the transmission mount.

I like going to this garage because they will try to repair your car part instead of replace it, like everyone else wants to. I think that the costs are reasonable. I found this garage through trial and error.
