My little female had gotten sick in 2011 and after the new vet had suggested surgery( didn't do), many tests, medications and about 7000.00, she was not any better and I decided I better take her to see Dr. Joe. He took one look at her told me what the problem was, did a few tests and we started her on a medication regime. Three years later, she is now 10 years old and our special little girl.
I will not ever change again.
Dr. Mandola is my hero.
This year when I took my dog in for the yearly shots, exam, etc., Dr. Joe Mandola saw him. I told him I couldn't afford it last year, and he said, "Well, there just so happens to be a special on pulling teeth today!" I'm quite sure there wasn't, but he was so kind, and so nice. He told me to pick him up in 2 hours, and everything would be done.... Amazing care! Love, love, love Dr. Mandola!
I called ahead and learned that Richmond Animal Hospital did not take appointments for regular physicals, it was first come first served.
So I went over there with my dog. I checked in at reception, which seemed generally organized, and was instructed to sit and wait with my dog. During this time there were other clients going in an out of the exams, some of whom arrived after I did. It's unclear to me if they had appointments for procedures, which might have been why they were admitted before me. We ended up waiting about 40 minutes before we were taken back to an exam room.
The staff were very professional and approachable, and my dog responded well to them. The vet listened to my concerns and addressed them, explaining what might be happening with my dog. He prescribed a new heartworm medication for my dog and it resolved the problem.
The price seemed generally reasonable - I basically paid about $100 for a six-month supply of heartworm medication and about $20 for the actually intake visit. The entire visit by the time we got out of there was about 1.25 hours.
All in all, the service was fine but it is rare that I can take this amount of time for a vet visit, and not being able to make an appointment adds a lot of uncertainty to the time table.
When we took our friend's dog in, they took us back almost right away and examined him. They stapled his cut and wrapped it tightly. When I asked what would happen if he tried to lick or chew the bandage, they offered to put on a "lamp shade" device to keep him from being able to go after the wound. They did charge us for the "lamp shade", which surprised me a bit, but I suppose they had to buy it from someone.
We continue to use them.
