I am having to take the man to small claims court. I hope to get my money back so I can pay someone else to do the job.
Description of Work: I was in need of someone to level a home I had just purchased, I googled house levelers in my area Lara Foundation & Repair was one of the 4 that appeared. I called them all to set up appointments, Raymond Lara (owner of Lara Foundation & Repair) was the first to respond. I meet him at my house on a Saturday he talked a good game had a decent price which included a 5 year warranty. We were told he uses a water leveler and he had already crawled under the house prior to us arriving and everything looked good and it would be an easy fix. He started the following Monday, he nailed a string from the living room all the way down the hall to the bedroom at the other side of the house (this was his "level"). He tried to tell me the house was level the second day and wanted to get paid. I had my friend come over and take a look (he has a transit we used to check the work) and the house was not level. Raymond was angry that he was not getting paid yet as the job was not complete. He came back out the following day and requested additional money to add another beam under the house, we agreed to pay the amount as long as the home was level. He was finally paid about a week after he started the job, a month passes and the house has settled (not not level) so I call him to try and set up an appointment to level the home (I can not move forward with anything at this point...sheet rock needs to be put up, beams....nothing can be done until the house is level. At first he told me it would be a week before he could come, I was fine with that...when I did not hear from him I called again and was told he is swamped he did not know when he could make it. We finally agreed on Saturday but he did not give me a time so I called him Friday evening and was told to find someone else to do the job. I told him I would see him in court and hung up, the following day he called and asked for more money, I told him absolutely not I had a signed contract with the agreed upon price and the 5 year warranty, that means I do not have to pay anything additional. He has not contacted me since. This man is a crook, he is not professional and his word "contract" means nothing to him. Please do NOT use this company, you will regret it if you do.
