Alex showed up on time each day and provided a professional product and service. Even though the installation was on the third floor, Alex insisted in cutting the product in the first floor garage to keep the dust and debris to a minimum. This required him to trek up and down two flights of stairs to complete the task. He was very meticulous in his installation and helped to clean up the work site after. I have recommended Alex to friends and relatives.

Alex is awesome and we have used him three times to do work for us. This most recent work, we were very impressed with his work. He does excellent work of high quality. He removed boards that were water damaged in the middle of the room and replaced, stained, and varnished to match. He is very professional and knows his trade well.

Alex is great. He loves the work that he does. He did a wonderful job installing our new floors. Since we needed to move into the house earlier than anticipated, he worked over the weekend to get the work done to accommodate us even though he had other obligations. I would not hesitate to hire him again. He has been in business for more than 20 years. He is very detail-oriented which is important for such work as wood flooring. Hire him and you would not regret it.

"Alex" of Alex Wood Floors, answered the phone promptly and set a date and time to come by and give me an estimate to repair my floors. He showed up 3 hours early, without calling, so I had to drop the work that I was doing to meet with him. His excuse was that he was in the area and I live too far away from him for him to drive home and back again.
The very first thing he did upon entering my home was to turn up his nose and insult me. "What you have here are FAKE wood floors!" Not anything like "Hi, How may I help you", or anything like that. Just an insult. He then proceded to tell me that there was nothing he could do about the deep scratches because my floors were "FAKE". I tried to be polite and ignore his very condescending manner, and then asked him for a quote to tear out about a 2 ft x3 ft area of wood planks and replace them with spare ones that I have. He told me that "MINIMUM is $350". I asked if he was kidding. It was small job. He said that he is very particular about his work, and if he comes to my house it will be for the whole day, and his daily "MINIMUM" is $350. I very politely told him thank you and showed him to the door.
Stupid me, as hopeful as I was to get the floor repaired, I realized after he had gone that I hadn't asked him if repairing the scratches in the other room would be included in his MINIMUM. So I called him. Again, he was so rude and condescending, and told me that any other work would be in addition to his minimum. His tone was such that I couldn't stand it and I ended up hanging up on him.
Apparently, the good reviews he has gotten here on Angie's list keeps him so busy that he can somehow stay in business even though he is can be rude, condescending and insulting to potential customers, along with charging exhorbitant MINUMUM rates!

The entire job was done in a week - they worked through the weekend to keep it moving. Quality is excellent - they did a great job cleaning up every day, managing the construction mess and sawdust from the sanding, and when complete they put pictures back up, put the doors back on and left the place in great shape. I couldn't be happier with the company and service. Highly recommend and would use them again.

I found this company on Angies List. I contacted Alex and he promptly scheduled an appointment to come and give an estimate. He was very informational about the process and answered any questions that I had. We ran into several problems along the way, which they solved creatively (power outlets under carpet, etc.). The craftmanship of the work is impeccable and beautiful. During the project, the crew was on time every day, cleaned up after themselves EVERY DAY! I really can't say enough good things about this company. If you are looking for service for your new or exisiting wood floors - I recommend without any reservation; Alex Wood Floors. Professional, exceptional craftmanship, a real gem of a company!!

Alex is an artisan and a perfectionist and our floors are beautiful. He knows everything about floors, oversees or does every step of the process and is always available and responsive. Alex was quick and responsive with our initial quote, his price was quite reasonable. The work was done by him and a small crew (one or two talented workers). He identified problems with the floor, like old patching we didn't notice. He tore these out and repaired the areas so that they were absolutely unnoticeable. Any adjustments to our bill for these new elements were fairly priced. We asked him to stain with a dark ebony stain, something we don't think he didn't initially agreed with but he cheerfully went with our wishes, even when we wanted a second coat. Additionally we asked for an odd trim design which he completely expertly. He was always thorough in explaining any choices along the way and always accepted our choice, even when it meant a lot more work. We had another contractor on the site, and he worked well with the contractor and the other crew. He coordinated efforts with the other team and looked over their work when it could impact his floors. The floors were his baby and he fashioned and protected them like a true craftsman.

I have nothing but praise for Alex and his crew. Having wood floors redone, however, is generally a very unpleasant experience because of the dust, which is unavoidable even with the most extreme care, and the smell of the stain and polyurethane, also ununavoidable. We wore socks a lot.

Alex provided a detailed estimate quickly, started the work on time, and finished as promised. The floors tuned out better than I thought possible. A positive experience from start to finish ! I recommend Alex without reservation

Alex and his crew were very nice to work with. He explained everything about the process and also indicated the best method to follow. When we would request something, Alex would indicate the pros and cons of doing it. For instance, we wanted the longer planks (up to 7ft length), Alex indicated we would have to use a sub-floor and also that some of the doors and the baseboards would have to be adjusted - which was done. To complicate things we were in the process of a move and we had to bring in furniture from our old house right in the middle of the floor installation. Alex accommodated us and made suggestions as to how to do this in the best possible way for both the floor and the move. Alex was also good at indicating the different specifications of the wood - based on his descriptions we choose a #2 selection of oak boards and were very happy with the appearance of the wood. We are very happy that we chose Alex Wood Floors and would heartily recommend to any other that is considering to install new floors.

There was nothing that I would change in fact we are going to hire them again. There were no waiting periods either. As soon as the floors were dry, he moved right to the next step.

Alex proved to be a serious professional craftsman, took pride in his work, and explained the process and our options throughout the process. He has a great work ethic. When one days' work didn't go as planned, (drying time too long) he came on Saturday to keep things on schedule. He did this twice. When he ran into trouble because our wood floors themselves were not even, even though the foundation was now level, he went searching with a bright light to find the places his machine had scratched the floor inadvertently, and buffed them out. When I did not want the stock stain colors he had on hand he worked with me to use a stain mixture I had come up with on my own. He was on time, careful, and, we found him to be eminently trustworthy. He worked in our home for about 15 work days. The price seemed very reasonable.
