- Jeff was very meticulous when touring the property in order to submit a bid. I appreciated that he was measuring and taking the estimation part of the process seriously since I had a number of miscellaneous deferred maintenance, repair and touchup jobs that had accumulated over the course of 7 years. Several companies didn't choose to submit a bid because they didn't think my series of small jobs was "enough", i.e. they wanted someone with a major remodel. One company chose not to submit a bid because my newer construction home had a very high "doghouse" that needed painting (equivalent height of a 3rd story window.) One company submitted a bid, but I didn't trust that they were serious about their estimate. The owner had been very casual when touring my house with me, did not take measurements or photos and took very few notes. To me, you can be casual if someone asks you to paint the interior walls of an unoccupied 1500 sq ft house, it's a pretty cut and dried, simple job. When someone has a series of 13 unrelated individual items needing repair, retexturing, repainting, etc.; more care needs to be taken in order for your estimate to be accurate.
- When he started the job Jeff was equally devoted to performing the work in a manner meeting both his standards and mine. He was careful to be sure we agreed on paint colors, type of paint, what items I approved of adding to the project (for ex., small portions of the fence or lower parts of the garage siding that needed to be replaced/repaired prior to painting), what project he was beginning and any time restraints that would restrict him from finishing that project, etc. Each day before he left we would discuss what project he would work on the next day. When he arrived the next morning we would discuss any time constraints either of us had, what items he would need my input on, etc. etc. His interpersonal communication skills are outstanding for a contractor performing the jobs he did. In the past I have run into problems with workers who were unwilling to communicate with me regarding a project, which inevitably leads to misunderstandings and botched work.
- Completed work was high quality. Repairs were undetectable, textures matched, paint matched or we reached alternative solutions. When painting incomplete rooms (one wall or the ceiling, not all 4 walls and the ceiling) in a 9 year old house, one knows that problems will crop up. My husband works in a major corporation so we have moved frequently during our marriage. Most remarkable to me about my 3 weeks with Jeff working on my property (and different from some of my previous experiences with other companies) was that when things went wrong we were able to amicably reach solutions. Although he had been meticulous and given time to preparing his bid, there were items where he felt he had underestimated the time a particular job would take. There were places where my husband decided the existing paint needed to be repainted once Jeff had painted an adjoining wall because the old paint now looked uneven. Jeff was quite honest about areas that were more challenging than he had anticipated, I was quite honest about problems that cropped up that I wanted fixed and together we reached a middle ground where we were both satisfied with the result. In the past I have sometimes felt like I wasted lots and lots of my own time going up and down the chain of command in larger companies to get problems that cropped up "fixed". The workers onsite didn't have the authority to fix problems, the managers offsite weren't very "available" to discuss my issues and I was left feeling like I had been "robbed" paying for an inferior job. I had sometimes even gone so far as to tell my husband that no more workers were entering that particular house because each one that entered damaged more than they fixed. With Jeff being the "one in charge" and also the main person completing the work, we were able to reach solutions fairly easily. I think Jeff appreciated that this wasn't my first rodeo and that I understood that an estimate was just that, what he thought from a cursory glance it would take to complete a project. So when he made a valid point about a particular line item taking more time or being more involved, I'm the type person who would listen and discuss with him rationally what I thought about his assertion, and we would adjust as needed. When I had a complaint about several small items, he heard me out and was quite rational in proposing compromises. Despite the items we added and a few line items being adjusted upward, my final payment was less than 10% more than the initial bid, so I felt like it was remarkably on target and accurate as these type projects go.
- End result is my long, varied list of deferred painting projects has been completed. My front door with its 3 coats of polyurethane is once again glistening in the sun, its wood protected from the elements and welcoming visitors into my house where the walls are once again flawless, looking as though no one had lived in the house since it was finished! If I need additional work done, I will be certain to contact Jeff.

Jeff is trustworthy. We felt very comfortable leaving him in our house throughout the day while we were working.
Excellent job on helping pick out and verify paint colors.
We highly recommend Jeff for any painting or drywall jobs you might have and we would use his services again in a heartbeat.
