Portland Veterinary Hospital

Dr Rafael has looked after all three of our dogs over the last 5 years. We hated that we had to leave our favorite vet in San Antonio but feel lucky to have found Dr Rafael and his staff in this area. He had the difficult task of putting down our 15 year old Malamute who suffered with hip dysplasia, arthritis and cancer. Rafael handled it with the utmost in compassion and walked us thru the difficult ordeal step by step. If we could change anything, we'd be happy if he were equipped with an X-ray and perhaps offer after-hours emergency care but, that's of course difficult to find anywhere, especially in a small town like this.

The staff was very friendly, the facility clean and very pet friendly. The vet was outstanding making sure that we as the pet owners were fully informed during the entire exam. He also made sure to let us know what was going to happen and how things would be done. He also made sure we were in complete agreement with the plan of treatment for our pet. The process was timely and very pleasant. We will be using the facility for all future pet care.

We take our 3 dogs and 1 cat there. We have been going there for over a year, and we are very happy with their services. We never wait longer than a day or two for and appointment, and if there is an emergency they will see the animal immediately. The vet takes the time with the animals, and I feel he really cares for them. We are very pleased with them, and would highly recommend them.

I have taken several pets to Dr. Rafael over many years, he and his staff are GREAT!! He is participates in continuing education programs and he is extremely thorough and articulate during treatment of my pets (including calling to see how things are going). He will give you all options and allow you to do the best you can with your budget. The staff is professional and helpful. THis is a great place to take your pet for quality care.

I'm happy with them. I actually take my dogs there for their vaccines. The doctors there are very friendly.

They are good. I like them. They have lots of availability and I didn't wait long. They were friendly and did a good job. They have ease of appointments and it's easy to get in. The veterinarian was very nice.

Portland Veterinary Hospital are very nice and they are pretty quick about getting you in and out.

Over the last 10 years, Dr Raphael has provided excellent care for our pets. He only performed the tests and services that werre required. Our poodle had problems with his teeth and gums and did not like anyone poking and prodding him. He became easier to manage when he went blind and deaf in his later years. Our chihuahua mix developed diabetes and went blind as a complication.

Overall the care was excellent. I was given all options and told what to expect.

Treatments were given over a period of months.

Very good and professional. We are very pleased with Dr. Rafael's knowledge and attention to detail.

I feel that my dogs have been given the best possible care. In the course of his diagnosis, Dr. Fontanez performed only the tests necessary. The only shortcoming is that there is no one on duty at night, so when PeeWee required overnight care, I had to take him to a vet that was staffed overnight.

Dr. Rafael is a wonderful veterinarian!!! Truly compassionate towards my ill dog and family. We drive over 30 miles just to keep him as our vet! We HIGHLY recommend the Portland Veterinary Hospital!
