Overall, it was a mediocre job and neither will I contract Mr. Bruner, the One Hand Painter, nor will I recommend him to anyone. There was one instance where a neighbor stopped by our house looking for Mr. Bruner as he was working on both houses simultaneously. The neighbor was so upset about the lack of quality, cleanliness, and promptness that he fired Mr. Bruner and his crew in the middle of the job.
Description of Work: The painting contractor, Gene Bruner, owner, and his two-man crew arrived promply on the first day and came promptly on most of the work days. They worked about 5 hours a day the first two days then took the weekend off. It was difficult to live in the house as most of the furniture had been moved out and the kitchen and one bathroom were unusable. After the second week, they had completed removing the "popcorn" plaster on the ceiling and applied the new plaster. After the third week most of the painting was complete, but it was sloppy and non-professional. Even though I had prepared a page of detailed paint instructions (i.e. which color paint was to be use on which walls), we had to check each can and in one instance point out they were using the wrong color paint. The trim had not been taped off and there were numerous missed places and the trim paint was on the wall or vice-versa. Mr. Bruner tied to paint much of the trim by sight and the paint edges were not distinct. After 19 days we had had enough. We continue to clean up and re-trim the woodwork and put up all the fixtures. Those details were supposed to have been done by the painting crew. Mr. Bruner was friendly and we had no incidences of breakage or theft, but they whiped the top of a very nice dresser with paint thinner or some other chemical that destroyed the finish. he tried to fix it by applying varnish but it doesn't look very good.
