"I want to thank Member for her outstanding compliments and also her introduction of Angie’s list to Sea Mates. Maria is one of those kinds of clients that give the reason to why an owner sticks with their company. I started Sea Mates as a whim. I relocated back to the Texas gulf coast after 20 years of property management. I was in Austin for 12 years of that 20 and had been laid of twice in a three year period by the same company. I ventured back to my home town Port Aransas, Texas and could not find a job that was comparable for my worth in property management. I realized that Port A had turned into a tourist town and that a professional cleaning service was what the town needed. I DBA’ed Sea Mates name in 2005 and started cleaning private residents and boats. In 2006 I meet a general contractor that started building vacation homes so I turned the company into a construction site make ready service. In 2009 and 2010 we were working with a local property management company and we had a portfolio of a total of 42 units. In September 2010 the property management company folded leaving us with maybe 10 permanent clients. I had to work fast. Having all our eggs in one basket was costing us dearly and it was make it or break it time. I went on a rampage of different marketing schemes, at least ones we could afford. I market Sea Mates with Groupon and it has performed miraculously. We are now sitting on 20 permanent residents 6 which are vacation rentals and Sea Mates has two interviews at the end of the week with potential new clients.
