Rentals - Equipment
I started a remodeling project in my home. I thought it
would be a good idea to rent a Pod (or similar box) from a storage vendor to
store some furniture and items out of the house while the work was performed. After
some internet research I chose to rent a UBox from UHaul. This is the worst
decision I made for the entire remodeling project.
I began with U-Haul Moving & Storage of Lewisville. It
seemed pretty simple. Rent a UBox for $65 a month. The trailer under the UBox
would cost $15 a day. How hard could it be? When I explained that I was not moving, I just
wanted a temporary storage box the UHaul staff at Lewisville suggested they
could deliver the UBox. Sounded like a good idea, I agreed. The UHaul staff at
Lewisville could not complete the computer workflow to close the transaction. I
was pretty eager to get a UBox to empty my house before the painters arrived. I
signed an agreement for the UBox at $65 a month. They promised to call me
before end of day to work out details. They never called.
It turns out that U-Haul Moving & Storage of Lewisville
flipped my business to U-Haul Moving & Storage of Plano. I never learned
this until I received an email from Josiah Choiniere, the manager at U-Haul
Moving & Storage of Plano who thanked me for my business. Prior to receiving
the email I had completed the delivery and receipt of my UBox, and I was
already using the UBox. Through this time I was still quite satisfied.
Josiah?s email included a link to an electronic receipt. The
amount charged for UBox rental did not match the quote from UHaul Lewisville,
or the quote on the UHaul website. I spoke with Josiah and negotiated the
rental rate back to the original quote. Still satisfied, though annoyed by the
lack of communication from the vendor, I scheduled the return of the UBox.
Just one day after settling the rental rate I received my
credit card bill which included a charge from U-Haul Moving & Storage of Plano
for $350! I never authorized a charge for $350 to UHaul Moving & Storage of
Plano. Keep in mind I have an electronic receipt that documents a $65 purchase.
I tried to call Josiah 3 times to discuss this. I left a message for Josiah once with an
associate requesting a call back, I spoke to a different staff member once, and once I was rolled over
to national UHaul customer service center. I also sent Josiah an email asking
why there was such a large difference between the amount charged to my credit
card and the amount quoted. After 3 days Josiah never returned my call, and did
not respond to my email.
This morning I called Josiah again, and I asked about the difference
between the amount U-Haul Moving & Storage of Plano charged me, and the
amount quoted to me. Josiah explained that this was the delivery fee for the
UBox. I was never quoted a delivery charge. I was dumbfounded.
I am extremely dissatisfied with this transaction and this
vendor. U-Haul Moving & Storage of Plano never communicated with me the
total cost of rental and delivery. U-Haul Moving & Storage of Plano did not
introduce themselves as my vendor; I thought I was doing business with the Lewisville
site. I feel that these two vendors pulled a ?bait and switch? operation on me.
I can assure everyone who reads this that I will never take any business to
either U-Haul Moving & Storage of Plano or U-Haul Moving & Storage of Lewisville
after this fiasco.
