Feeling ripped off!!! The automation part of the garage door had quit working (although you could manually open and close the door). This happened Friday evening and other garage door contractors were quoting us ridiculous 'emergency/over the weekend' rates. Note: the ONLY reason why I contacted this contractor via Angie's List (as a supposed trusty resource) was because "24-Hour Emergency Services", "Free Estimates with No Service Call Fee" - was stated on his website (rocketdoorservice.com) and similarly eluded to on his Angie's List profile - and seemed to have decent ratings (although dated). I clearly stated over the phone what the issue was. He said he could come out and take a look no charge, but thought the unit just needed a 'tune up'. I told him that was not the problem, it was the automation aspect. He was insistent that all the unit probably needed was a tune up and he would charge $125 cash and that he could be here within the hour. Then he tells me, he has to wait for his driver to come over and pick him up to bring him here, but that she lives in his complex***. HMMM, 2nd red flag (but, we were desperate). Within 5 minutes of his arrival, he 'supposedly' did the 'tune up' charges us $125 (vs $32 elsewhere) and then proceeds to tell us, 'its the motor (automation) and will cost us $450 to replace it with a Lift Master. So, I show him an add for a competitor who is offering the same at $295. The guy talks at 90 miles an hour, same thing over and over again and I keep reeling him back in, saying, "what's your point, get to the point" repeatedly. I finally told him, "we're done here today, how much do we owe you?". He says, $125 cash - and I asked, "for what"? Seriously, the guy was only here 5 minutes after my husband and I left the garage before he was knocking on our door telling us that we needed to replace the automation unit. Darn, I wish I would have listened to my instincts about this joker!!! So, I had him and his driver (nice lady) follow my husband over to his bank to get him paid and off of our property. ***There is NO discount coupon on his website at rocketdoors.com (although he states there is on Angies list). Also, his address on Angies List shows: 608 Water Oak Drive, Plano, TX 75025 - he sold that property 10/28/2010 (see [*** Link removed ***] Hence, as any reputable business - they need to update their current address. He told me that he lives near Alma and Park in a complex - only because he was trying to give me an estimated time of arrival. The pictures on his website are impressive, regarding examples of various garage door repair situations. On that site, it shows an impressive professional looking truck with trailer in tow. Looks like that picture was taken back when he was living at the 608 Water Oak Drive, Plano, TX address in 2010 or so. Today he arrived with a 'designated' female driver in an older SUV. He said he had numerous surgeries and was on pain meds - that is why he has a 'designated' driver. In all honesty, it may be time for Tom (Thomas) Mitchell to retire....Based on our experience, we CANNOT recommend this contractor. However, we wish him the best.

I called Tom (owner and service technician of Rocket Garage Door) around 6pm on Friday. He answered the phone and offered to come out the next morning around 9:30 am, which he did. One nice thing about Rocket Garage Door is that there is no service fee for Tom to come out and give a free estimate.
He had all the parts needed to perform the repairs available in his trailer. Tom was clearly experienced in repairing garage doors and garage door openers, and performed a complete overhaul of our system. I have had less done by another company in the past (sorry, I don't recall the name), which was quite a bit more expensive. Also, unlike other companies, Rocket Garage Door offers a lifetime warranty on the parts installed.
Overall I am very pleased with Tom and his service and would recommend him to anyone needing garage door repairs or installation. I will definitely use Tom for future garage door service and repairs.

Tom was very informative and helpful explaining all the options in detail. He gives a cash discount and when I went out to get the cash he discovered another broken part and he did not charge me for it since he had already given me a price. I know he was giving me a good deal because he provided additional parts that were not part of the original estimate.

They were awesome. The work they did was really good. They didn't charge us anything extra for having to come out in the middle of the night and we haven't' had any problems since.

I called up Tom in the morning and he worked with my schedule and came over the same day. He replaced the broken spring with a better one and upgraded all of the rollers on our garage door. He did a tune-up and lube as well and explained everything as he went along. Before our spring broke, our door used to be loud as it moved up and down. Now, it runs so quietly that it feels like we have a brand new garage door!

Tom then showed us a problem with our other garage door and also did a tune-up and lube on that one as well.

This was a great experience from start to finish. The only negative I can think of is that the lubrication spray that he used has a lot of fumes and 2 days later, the smell is still strong when I step into our garage. I am trying to leave our garage door open so that it gets ventilated.

Responded very quickly and completed repairs expeditiously using parts that he brought with him on first call. No service call charge and free diagnosis & estimate. After analysis, Tom explained the problems, my options and the costs involved. He educated me as to the quality and possible future problems with each solution. I decided to replace springs, rollers and mounting brackets that were bending. Tom did the work quickly, his methods caused some slight bending of the guide rails but not enough to cause problems. Ultimately, the door works much better and quieter than when it was new.

He did a really good job. It turned out to be that the springs were broken and the tracks were bent a little bit. It was not clear what was wrong. The guy came out and did a free estimate, did not hold me to anything. The quote he gave me was anywhere between $50 to $75 less than any other company. I called 3 other companies and the cheapest estimate I got was $50 more than his and the most expensive was $75 more than his. I was very pleased with the company. We live in an old house and it is an old garage door, and the springs were of a thinner gauge. The thing I liked about him is that he has a trailer behind his car which has all the parts in there; it is like he is driving his shop literally. He had the correct springs and a larger gauge spring, which he put on to my door and did not charge me extra for it. He did a really good job. He tightened everything, replaced all the hardware that needed to be replaced. He put new, quieter, higher quality rollers in, greased and straightened the tracks. He lined them all up, reconnected the garage door and tightened and adjusted the chain. He took apart my garage door opener and went ahead and cleaned it out. I did not have money to pay for it, so he adjusted it to the point where it would last a couple of months more. The guy was fast. He was really honest, did not want to sell me anything extra and did not put any pressure on me. He explained everything in detail. He was a little hyper, but he worked fast. I called him about 9 o’clock in the morning and he was at my door by 11. He showed up very quickly, went straight into the house and took measurements. He gave us he estimate and his estimate is what I paid. I was very pleased and the door is working. It was quieter and I never had that in the entire time we had that door. Everything went smooth and he cleaned up after himself. I spent $250 on that work. He used nylon rollers that we did not have. He knew exactly what he was doing. He did not sell me anything extra. I am going to use them to do the garage door repair. He was a great guy. He has everything and it is just like a mini shop. I was really amazed with this guy. I got quality work from them at a reasonable price.

Overall it went well. He was at my place in an hour after my call, and diagnosed & finished the job in about an hour. Even after I agreed to pay for new springs, it turned out the ones I had supported the new weight after the supports were installed. Tom did not try to sell me something I didn't need and tuned up my existing springs for free and just charged me for the supports. His response was excellent, the garage works wonderfully now, and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg.
