They've repaired broken suctions line after locating them. Very professional experts.
They've removed and replaced the pump with a variable speed pump. Excellent service. As they said, is paying for itself via reduced electrical bills. And much lower noise.
They've removed and replaced the pool heater. Excellent Service.
They've removed and replaced the pool and spa lights using LEDs. As they said, is paying for themselves via reduced electrical bills.
They've removed and replaced the blower. Excellent service. As they said, it operates at a much lower noise level.
They've removed and replaced the mastic bordering the pool and
the garage threshold. Again, excellent service.
Highly recommend working with both Jim and Mark. Both are very knowledgeable and professional.
I have four contractors bidding to rebuild our swimming pool. Of all four, Pool Environments took the longest to come to our house. The gentleman who came was in and out quickly - didn't have time to make suggestions or answer questions - and told me that he is so busy that it would be about two days before we would get a bid. After two days, I asked for a status on the bid and he said it would be over the weekend before he could tackle it. Today is Monday and still no bid. Other companies were at our house within a day or two and had their bids to us that night or the next morning. I didn't have to follow up with them at all; in fact, when I had questions, I got immediate answers. I used to oversee construction projects with a bank - lots of interaction with contractors. Aside from skill of work, customer service was of utmost importance. Pool Environments has missed that mark!
RESPONSE TO VENDOR, 5/9:
On the morning of Monday 5/4, I sent an email to the salesman, asking if he would be submitting the bid he promised over the weekend. He responded that it would be later in the day and that it was likely his bid would be the highest of all and asked if he should continue. I asked him to submit his bid and he did so at approximately 10:00 p.m. that night. I reviewed his bid and needed some clarification, so on Tuesday morning (5/5) I sent a reply, asking my questions. The salesman called me this time and said he was too busy to answer my questions; Pool Environments was "over-committed" and he really felt it would be better if I just went with "one of my other options."
Perhaps on the day I initially called Pool Environments to make an appointment, the better action would have been: "Thank you for calling. At this time we are not taking new customers due to our heavy workload. We do hope that you will try us again or you will find another vendor well suited to your needs." I would have respected - and appreciated - that because it would have kept all of us from wasting our time.
"We have been blessed with a great deal of work this season. We do our best to meet and provide proposals as quickly as possible. We provide our proposals off of real numbers, not estimates, and this process does take longer. However, we feel it is important to provide accurate information upfront so there is no surprises later. We want to not only earn your business for one job, but earn it for the lifetime of your pool. A proposal was provided on Monday May 4th to this member and today, Tuesday May 5th we received word back from this member regarding the proposal. We felt at this time it was best to decline this project. Our goal is to first and foremost take care of our customers and that means not cutting corners and not rushing through the process . We wish this member well, and hope one of the other 3 contractors she is working with will be a good fit and able to meet her expectations."
Since they asked for our address before we even talked to anyone about a home visit (none of the many other companies I contacted did this), I can only surmise that we live on the wrong side of the tracks. Shame on them...
Might I suggest that, if you only want jobs in Highland Park-type areas, you have the common courtesy to return phone calls informing the inquirer of that. And post that restriction on Angie's list rather than saying "Dallas Fortworth Metroplex With Outer Areas Available".
Might I also suggest that you charge for providing estimates in order to weed out the riff-raff, if that's your intention.
The provider says that the costs were communicated, and while that is true it does not change the fact that $117 for a simple diagnosis is very expensive.
On top of that, and you can check yourself, $3,995 for a Pentair Master Temp 250 is extremely expensive as it can be purchased new for around $1,800 and installation/replacement is simply hooking it up to the plumbing, gas, and electricity.
Finally, the faulty part was purchase from amazon.com, brand new and OEM, for $45 vs $245 from the provider. He can spin it any way he wants, it was a rip-off and I am happy that I checked before going ahead.
You have to be very careful when it comes to contractors as most of them will only try to maximize their financial outcome of the engagement and do not really care about the financial impact to you. And since many customers are clueless, they get away with it most of the time.
"I have attached a copy of the direct thread between this member and Pool Environments. After quoting the member for a service call and diagnostics it was agreed upon to send a tech out: 11/9/2014 (from member) Hello, I am having a problem with a Pentair Temp Master 250 pool/spa heater. It won't heat and shows the message "Check System". Regards, 11/9/2014 (from member) Sorry, the phone was incorrect. Should be: 11/10/2014 (from PE) Good Morning, Most of the time this is referring to a flow problem. It could be low water, full skimmer baskets, full pump basket, or a clogged filter. We have several different filter clean options if the problem is the filter. i have attached a document with the filter clean options. We can schedule a technician to come out to diagnose the problem one morning this week. The Service call is $65.00 and there is a diagnostic fee of $52.00. The $52.00 diagnostic fee is credited IF we make a repair. I will follow this email up with a phone call. Thank you for contacting us! 11/11/2014 (from member) I don't believe there is any water flow problem. Water level is good, all skimmers and pump basket clean, and I just cleaned the water filters also this last weekend. The heater still won't work ("Service System"). 11/11/2014 (from member) One more question, I am assuming that if after the diagnosis ($52) there is an equipment problem to be fixed, you are able to service/repair pool heaters? 11/11/2014 (from PE) Yes, definitely. We service all types of pool equipment. On 11/11/14, The technician found the inside of the heater to be very damaged with rust and corrosion. A typical heater will have a lifespan of 7 years. However, if the pool has a salt system on it, the lifespan is drastically shortened. This member’s pool did have a salt system which most likely contributed to the corrosion. Although the technician felt the money would be better spent towards a new unit, he did provide two estimates to both parties – 1) to repair the existing unit , and 2) to replace the unit with a new one. As with anything, you can often times find things “cheaper” on the internet. When buying parts online you do not know where they came from, who manufactured them and there are typically no warranties available. Many times these prices are even cheaper than we can purchase them from our reputable supplier. We only deal with suppliers who provide the best, certified and guaranteed products on the market. Our clients safety is always a concern, especially when dealing with heaters. We will never cut corners and we also guarantee our products and services."
"We let each new customer know upfront that we charge $65.00 for a service call and $52.00 for diagnostics. If the repair is completed by Pool Environments, we credit the diagnostics fee back to the customer. We also offer a $25.00 credit to 1st time Angies List Clients which covers roughly half of the diagnostics fee if they do not complete the work with us. We feel this is very fair. We pay our technicians well because they are highly trained and the best in the business. It is unfair for them to use their training and expertise to diagnose problems only to have the work performed by others. Therefore, the diagnostics fee insures they are paid for their time. We are very upfront with our pricing and very clear that we will most likely not be the cheapest provider. However, we guarantee and warranty our work as our many loyal clients will attest to."
