I am acting as the general contractor to build my own pool (I am comfortable doing so as I have a background in general construction, project / vendor management, and a degree in systems engineering), and have found that many of the trades in the DFW area are not keeping up to date with new standards and practices in the industry.  Additionally, as they are paid by the job, it is not uncommon for them to look for and take shortcuts when performing the contracted work.  Taking shortcuts allows them to bid a cheaper price, but I have found you generally get what you pay for. 
What a surprise when I met with Bryan at Rey's Pattern Concrete!  He was able to answer all of my technical questions about building pool decks, understood what needed to be done, and DID NOT TAKE SHORTCUTS!  Extremely pleased by their work and dedication to quality.  I received an initial quote, and then asked for stronger concrete and more rebar, as well as a substantial gravel bed.  I also wanted a floating deck (not typically done in the DFW area, but very common in the rest of the country where pool building practices are more up to date).  Bryan understood exactly what I wanted, and even suggested some changes to improve the longevity of the deck.  One of the best sub-contractors I have worked with so far - knowledgeable, professional, prompt, and fair.  Would definitely recommend them to those what want a quality product.

The price is PURELY an estimate, as Patterned Concrete was a sub on a larger job. However, their work was meticulous. Everything I know about concrete I learned from Google over the last month (!); however, from the slab footers, to the 48" pillar holes, to the compacted soil and re-bar suspension, these guys did it right. Further, their clean up was spotless. One thing: they start EARLY (6:45 a.m.) which I loved, but might not be for everyone.

Initial discussions went very well but later when it came time to provide a quotation, Patterned Concrete by Rey never delivered and just ignored my requests.

FINISHED WALKWAY HAS A LOW SPOT THAT COLLECTS WATER AND AN UNACCEPTABLE SIDE-TO-SIDE SLOPE.
