The service went well. Two technicians came out for the installation with a manager to supervise the project. They completed the job in about 3 days. They kept me informed on what they would be doing and the job went exactly as I had expected. The sales person was super knowledgeable. They had a lot of flooring to chose from. I had no problem scheduling the service.

Overall we were satisfied with the product and the work. The pricing on the hardwood floors was competitive and the selection was great. The installers were on time, qualified and quick. We will use them again, when we do the rest of the house

The area I would recommend they improve on:

Listen more closely to the customers questions and provide a recommendation. Many of us are new to this process and need guidance. Our installation expert could have provided more information when asked.

Their service was good. I picked up the wood and brought it home to avoid the delivery fee. However, they will deliver the flooring to you if want. They first came to give an estimate and take measurements. They later sent two men to pull up the old carpeting and level the floor. They started to lay the flooring and came back they next day to finish the job. They worked about ten hours each day. They were on time and the price was reasonable. You can get a lot more for a lot less.

The Lumber Liquidator sales process was very good, but my experience with the installation was not great. The flooring is Morning Star Bamboo 1/2 x 5" click, floating on top-of-the-line Bellawood underlay. The first crew did not show up. When I told the supervisor in the afternoon, he promptly arranged for a different crew the next day. The second crew was pleasant and easy to work with, but there are problems with the results. They decided not to use the leveling compound, and maybe that's why the floor creaks a bit. I don't know if this creaking is to be expected with a floating floor, but I didn't expect it. Also, rather than remove the front door threshold so it could cover the ends of the boards when it was put down again, they left a 1/4" gap, which I had to fill with some brown caulk I got at home Depot. There is a bit of visible flex in some the board ends. Next to the door, there was another small gap where there should have been shoe moulding, so I added some. The door frames were undercut to slide the boards under, but there were gaps of about 1/4" above the floor. I filled these gaps with caulk as well. So overall, I think the installation could have been done better. I entered this commentary on the provider's web site and waited for a response, but there has been none in about a week.

Although Lumber Liquidators was not highly rated on Angies list, I decided to use them because of the low price and the project was fairly simple. After selecting a laminate at their onsite location in Carrollton, we scheduled an estimate (which costs $25.00). I had the LL sales representative clearly explain what the $1.99 per sqft. install included and made sure I took care of everything else (picking up the new laminate, disposing of the old flooring and removing all furniture and base boards myself). There are many opportunities for LL to upsell you additional services and fees and it is important to iterate everything they are expected to perform. Chris Anderson (Services Manager) scheduled a prompt install and he only missed one aspect of the job, the sub-flooring needed some additional nails to secure it and this was not done by the installers because they did not have any nails. The floor was nicely installed with little to no imperfections. As long as you closely supervise the process, I would fully recommend LL to anyone looking to accomplish a floor install on a budget.

Overall this has been a very bad experience. I spent ~$12,000 (Labor and materials) to have what I thought was going to be a beautiful and long lasting floor. Instead, my entire bamboo floor was ruined after only 11 months. My bamboo floors have buckled, cupped, and started peeling. Terms I was not aware could happen to bamboo until after a professional flooring inspector informed me was happening to my floors. I contacted Lumber Liquidators to start a warranty claim. After almost 14 months of deliberations and professional inspections to determine what caused the flooring problem I have been left holding the bag. Lumber Liquidators has denied the warranty claim and is pointing the finger at myself and the installer. The installer, of course, is saying they installed per the manufacturers recommendations and that it must be a manufacturing defect. Lumber Liquidators is also stating that bamboo never should have been used in my house. They are stating that my foundation moisture levels are too high to support bamboo flooring so they are not at fault. Testing for foundation moisture levels was also something never mentioned to me by either Lumber Liquidators or my installer. When I originally went to Lumber Liquidators to go pick out the flooring I was never informed of needing to test my foundation for moisture before selecting bamboo. I was also not given any literature to read that could have pointed out pitfalls in using bamboo. There were many opportunities the sales associate at Lumber Liquidators had to give me this vital information but he did not. I hope this post will help educate anyone thinking about using bamboo flooring. I also will never use Lumber Liquidators again since it appears they are more focused on making the sale than educating their customers on proper flooring to use in their homes.
