Not only does DFW Improved do excellent work but they are professional, friendly, timely, and really care about their customers.
Description of Work: DFW Improved have done various jobs for us. Everything from installing an additional vent fan in the attic to completely remodeling our master bathroom. Although DFW may be a little higher in price I have found their final product worth the additional expense. I will always go to them for any complex work I need done for our home.

The bid wasn't much better than a competitor's, but DFW Improved was much more responsive and got the work done ahead of schedule.
Description of Work: DFW Improved installed new gutters and painted the exterior (note that we did not have gutters previously).

I met with John for the initial walk-thru of the project and bidding. Later John and Shaun, the project manager came out to do another walk-thru with me to make sure all the work that I wanted done was reviewed and adjustments made if necessary. Once the initial contract was agreed upon, we meet with their in-house designer, Kristie. Kristie was extremely knowledgeable on the products and how to put together colors and textures. She present several different ideas for us to consider and worked within our budget. I would tell everyone that the time we spent with Kristie was extremely valuable and anyone doing a remodel should utilize her services. John had put me in touch with vendors for the appliances and hardware for the remodel. Shaun gave me a start date for the project and they started on that date. They were very prompt and worked hard to stay on their timeline. Shaun would check in everyday to see how the project was progressing and was also available during the day by phone when I had questions or concerns. Shaun kept me up-to-date on who was going to be coming out and when. If there was a delay with someone coming out, Shaun let me know immediately and we could make different arrangements if necessary. All the workers were very pleasant and were willing to explain what they were doing and would help me learn the hows and whys of the project. I like to learn from all the workers for future reference. They would also offer me tips on how to take care of the products. Arron, who I have worked with before, was very helpful with assisting me with small additional projects. His knowledge of remodeling was invaluable when it came to ideas for the smaller projects. The overall project was completed on time. There was a delay in getting the patio laid but most of the time delay was in my part trying to make a decision on the new door we were having installed. Shaun kept the project going by working around the door issue and once we came to the decision, they immediately jumped on it. Shaun was very easy to work with and he was always willing to talk with me about any concerns or changes I had. I have worked with DFW Improved on a smaller project last year and was impressed. They didn't let me down on this project and with a couple more remodels and building a new home, we will be turning to them. I would not hesitate to recommend them.
Description of Work: DFW remodeled several rooms for us. Starting with our kitchen - replacing the kitchen counter with a granite counter, glass tile back splash, new sink, garbage disposal, painted the area, installed new appliances and redid the lighting. They remodeled our bathroom, removing the tub and creating a walk-in shower with new tile and stone flooring. Installed a granite counter and new hardware and lighting. Painted the room The bedroom they replaced the carpet in the bedroom and closet with a wood flooring. They removed a large window and installed a sliding glass door. They had to rewire around the door and add lighting and outlets outside and painted the entire room They laid a concrete patio attached to the sliding glass door wall. They reworked the landscape water sprinklers to meet the new layout of the area.

Once the contract was signed, I was introduced to Chad McCormick the project manager. He was very professional, pleasant and again very responsive throughout the project and offerred ideas that I actually implemented. Completing a kitchen remodel is a major task with the coordination of services and a work sequence that is crucial. I certainly would have struggled with this, thus appreciate and respect their knowledge and expertise. There is more to a project of this size that the overall appearance, and I have confidence the foundational services were well done (electric, plumbing). DFW Improved arranged to begin the demolition while I was away on vacation, so the initial dust and chaos was over by the time I returned to a gutted out kitchen. Throughout each step of the project I was in communication with Chad or Jason. The work and workers who came into my home were always polite and kept the work areas as clean as possible, something I certainly respected. There was only one snag with the tile workers, but this occured right before the Thanksgiving weekend...a blip, nothing major, and Chad was on top of it. The cabinet installation was a major step in the renovation. Having never signed off on cabinet designs, I studied them and signed without a real appreciation of what I signing off on. I questioned the installers that day regarding the cabinet door style and thought a panel would be installated so didn't think too much about it....but learned there was a language barrier. I learned through this experience and would certainly walk through this in the futue with a detailed eye....The cabinet doors wete not the style I initially selected, but they were actually alright as they were my second choice (remember I signed off). In addition a corner cabinet space is essentially useless, something I would expect a seasoned cabinet company to recognize during the design process. However, I signed off, thus the lesson is mine to own. Everything progressed very nicely...just like I envisioned... until the installation of the backsplash. From the moment I walked in that evening I knew it was all wrong and would not be acceptable, as the colors all off. Again, I take the responsibility of utimatley selecting it with the designer after her guidance away from the original tile I had selected. Chad was receptive and guided me on correcting it....more money of course...but end result just want I wanted. The final aspect deals with the painting and detailing..something that was the most disappointing outcome of the entire project. Everything was sprayed initially, including the hardware inside the cabinets, the rubber stripping on the new door jam and all existing door frames without any appreciable preparation. Dust and debris sprayed over do not create the feel or touch of "brand new"-even old and new door frames were simply painted...no attempt to sand off residual material or small defects. Since the remodel, guests in my home who have done this and have much more experience express their suprise that the internal hardware of the cabinets were simply sprayed over (detail work). While everything white was sprayed, some areas were left undone such as behind the enclosure for the refigerator (did not appreciate until a dinner party when someone sitting at the bar pointed it out). When touch ups were done, the sheen between spray and touched up areas were not right. During the final stages where touch up areas were identified, multiple attempts were made to correct the areas. It became apparent to me that simply touching up a less than optimal base condition, would still result in a less than optimal result.. Sadly, as the lighting changes in the kitchen during the day and night lighting, the areas change. As one walks into the kitchen on first glance it all looks wonderful....until you actually see the areas in different light...then the flaws literally jump out. I am reminded of these every time I reach into the cabinet for a coffee cup in the morning or sit at the counter in the evening. I lost some faith in the whole "touch up " process when on the last set of touch up's....the brand new kitchen table base had white over spray on it. Chad offerred to have his painter come back out and look at the table to see what could be done....I declined as did not have the level of comfort or confidence that it would be truly addressed and that it would simply create a bigger more noticeable issue. Even in the den with a high vaulted ceiling and central beam.... had to be painted after the new lights, and new surrounding texture was installed as my old paint didn't match. New paint was purchased and initial glance looked alright. Now what I appreciate is that the painting simply covers only as far as the roller brushes could go...no finish out to the walls or up to the beam margins....again in dim light not obvious, but with daylight very obvious. In the kitchen where the caulk and wall paint come together lack detail and have appearance of messy lines Where the cabinets come together with the floor tile, it is simply a caulk bead-sometimes lumpy...not smooth...lacks the detailed finish look as quarter rounds would look at the base. While the question asked would you use this company again.. I would respond with a MAYBE. I really like the look and appearance of the new kitchen when I don't look too closely. I learned alot, and wish the detail and painting matched other components and representatives of the company. I am just not sure if i will use for my additional renovation projects...yes right up to the painting and finishing details. I think Jason and Chad are professional, honest and very responsive...but some aspects of work just didn't live up to the same level. Things I learned through the renovation....it is so easy to get caught up with the whole excitment of change...look closely at all the details....why install one typle of light switch on one side, then simply use another on the other side without making them match. Review cabinet plans with the expertise of the company's representatives-they know what they are looking at...walk through them carefully.... Always chase down samples...don't make a selection on a 2x2 block and picture...unless you are absolutely sure. Don't sign off until you move back into the area for a least a month...you are able to evaluate better when not tired and living in the space. I think I have learned alot during this process, and feel much more prepared to tackle the next phase of renovation in my home, I am it will offer me more lessons...but I will be much more critical and detailed orientated from the beginning.
Description of Work: DFW Improved was the contractor selected to complete a re-model and update of my kitchen. I obtained three bids and found them to be competitive as compared to others highly recommended on Angie;s list. The project was to remodel and update the kitchen with minimal renovation of the existing foot print. In addition they removed old recessed ceiling lights in two rooms and updated the lighting fixtures. I also had them tear out an existing 80's build in bar, and create a lighted bookcase with storage cabinets in the den. While the bid and contract globally addressed the anticipated costs, in the future I will request itemization to better understand the cost of the project and where additional expenses will be incurred. Others bids also provided a 'global" quote, but before undertaking my next major renovation project, I will request itemization estimates. I selected DFW Improved on two factors. First the professionalism of Jason Bailey, his guidance on navigating the "pre-work", his responsiveness and the fact that the company offered design services to help with the project. Having done many minor remodeling projects in my home, I felt undertaking such a major update/remodel would require additional expertise. I found the design input somewhat helpful, but found out it is essential to follow your own vision in the end. At times communication with the designer was challenging. With this being my "forever" home, I spent endless hours looking and selecting products that I love today and envision I will love for many years to come. A big undertaking for sure, but guided by Jason to many resources in the metroplex and ideas for opening the space.

delays. I had to get them to commit to a schedule in writing, which they did. The construction was executed flawlessly, took a bit longer because the City of Plano permits took some time.
Description of Work: I added a media room and study to my existing house. This was a two-story addition to my present house, and added about 520 square feet to my current house. The upstairs media room was wired for home theater and the downstairs room was built as a study. Since this was an extension to my current house, the internal staircase provided access to the upstairs media room. DFWImproved took care of all the permits with the City of Plano and gave me a detail schedule, subject of course to permit

I wasted two full weeks by giving this company an opportunity to bid on my job. DFW Improved *might* be a good contractor to hire if you are willing to work on their (slow) schedule, and are willing to call and remind them about things when they forget. However I expect a little more from someone I am going to hand a five-figure check to.
Description of Work: Had several estimates already for a complete bathroom remodel. Called DFW Improved because they were the highest rated remodeler in my area on Angie's list. Their first appointment was almost a week away and at a not-terribly-convenient time for me, but that's to be expected, right? No big deal. "Corey" arrived on time and was very professional and friendly. We had a good discussion about the work to be performed. He said it would be at least two weeks before the work could begin and that the job would take three more weeks. I asked when I could expect the bid/estimate and was told that he "might be able to get it to me this weekend" (the visit was Thursday at 9am). Corey left, the weekend passed with no bid received. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, still nothing. After a week without any contact from DFW Improved, I gave the job to the contractor that had been my top choice prior to this experience. They are starting Monday.

Response from DFW Improved
This was an unfortunate circumstance that we’re not pleased about. One of our sales representatives did meet with the customer and while he did commit to him that he would provide him with an estimate it was (unintentionally) overseen/lost in the cracks and the estimate was never sent. Our sales rep feels terrible about the situation and has committed to not repeat the mistake. While this doesn’t occur often, it has before and is something that we strive to avoid at all costs. This type of mistake reminds us that we are human but will be a learning experience for our entire company. We sent an apology to the customer.

The client was advised of (in writing) and agreed to of the scope of work and associated costs to provide the repairs prior to all work being performed. The issue of cost was brought to the table once the work was complete and payment was due. We apparently missed a few areas of mortar repair, but promptly returned to correct the error(s).

We had used DFW Improved for a couple of smaller projects 2 years earlier with good results. Explained with their representative what type of fence we were wanting and asked about different options like board-on-board, staining, and types of wood used. DFW Improved listened to our needs and concerns, inspected the property, and gave us a ball park figure. The next day, we received an email with the exact figures for each different fence option. We decided on the one we wanted and contacted the representative. They came out the next day, we signed a contract, and half the total bill up front. The work started on the day we were promised and was completed the following day, as promised. The final product is exactly what we were hoping. I think their price is competitive, but their work is truly excellent. The workers that constructed the fence were very respectful to my wife and she was comfortable with them working at our house. DFW Improved is prepared to work and deliver a superior result.

Work was performed as per quotations and quality of work was average. Several different contractors performed the work, plumbers, carpenters, painters, tilers and all seemed adequate. Had some communication issues with the PM that were resolved by John. Overall the work was satisfactory and DFW is a solid company. I would use them again but would try to get a schedule in writing to avoid communication issues.

It's unbelievable what a smooth ceiling can do to the whole room. The foyer looks incredible without the wallpaper and professionally painted.

We bought a house with a delayed close date, which pushed a lot of our deadlines on repairs to the brink, with a move date set in stone. Donny Armstrong was very responsive, providing an original quote from just pictures of our house, where others would not. Because his quote was a little high, when we finally had they keys to our house, he was able to come by and provide a more accurate quote, and was able to start work the very same day. Because he was so adaptable and flexible, we chose his company to provide the work. First we had three bathrooms and a kitchen with old dated wallpaper removed down to the original drywall, and then the walls were textured to match the rest of the house. Then we had the whole interior house painted, roughly ten rooms (if you count a hallway or an entry way as a "room") using a total of five different colors and two different textures (flat vs. eggshell). Because he subcontracts with smaller companies, he was able to get the work done quickly and in successive order, which was a primary goal, given our set in stone end date. While one set of workers removed wallpaper, others were setting the texture and others were painting. The work was done quickly, in five days total. The work was done the same as I would have done it (which means that they treated my home as if it were their home), and Donny came by EVERY single night to check the status and discuss the progress of the work. The only issue I had is that on the first day, the painters did not remove any of the electrical plates, they just taped around them. I told Donny that I wanted all the electrical plates removed and painted underneath, and he promptly fixed this the next day. Other than that, everything was done perfectly to my specifications. Overall, I was very, very happy with the quality, the timeliness and the responsiveness of this company. Their price still was on the higher side, but in the end, they were flexible (scheduling their crews without a firm quote) when I was not (I had a firm end date), and that is what tipped them in my favor. I would definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: We had three bathrooms and a kitchen with wallpaper removed (down to original drywall) and then textured to match the rest of the house. We had roughly ten interior rooms painted, using 5 colors.

I checked out reviews on Angie's list looking for some contractor info to do some maintenance/repair work on our home. I emailed DFW Improved explaining what we were looking for. I got a prompt response and spoke with them on the phone and then in person. They are professional and timely. We scheduled the work and it was done in a timely manner. The work for each part of the job was excellent. DFW Improved employees that I dealt with were open, honest and helpful. They always answered any questions I had and all workers arrived on time and completed the work as promised. We were going to find a granite person to help with the sink, but DFW Improved checked everything out and brought in granite guys to fix the small leak in the sink and to put in new sealant around the undermount sink at the granite and granite sealant to make sure the sink was firmly attached. I'm guessing I could have hired all separate workers (painters, drywallers, etc) and might have saved some money; but, the convenience of using one stop service and having a trustworthy contractor, made it worth any extra dollars if may have cost.....esp. if we want work done on other jobs or larger jobs in the future. I'd highly recommend DFW Improved--they inspire confidence and warranty their work.
Description of Work: I was looking for an excellent contractor for some general repairs around our home so looked at Angie's List and after reading the reviews and after talking with DFW Improved and meeting with them, we hired them. We wanted to adjust some doors (from ghosting, etc.) and repair some drywall and paint in one room. When that was done, we asked them about our undermount kitchen sink that leaked from faulty caulking and needed some sealant for a better seal on the granite, basically. So, we had door people, drywall and texture people, paint people and granite/sink people. All jobs were performed extremely well and all contractors arrived on time and were professional and did excellent jobs. Glad to have found a professional, excellent contractor. Work was done mid-January to early February.

I submitted a request for an estimate online and was contacted the next day to set up a date. Corey came out three days later (there was a weekend in between) and was very courteous and professional. He listened to our desires and offered suggestions when prompted, but was nevery pushy. We were emailed our estimate the next day and were allowed to applied our Angie's List coupon after the fact even though it said to present at time of first meeting. Our work began the following week and lasted 4 days. The workers were very courteous and Corey stopped in daily to check on the work/progress. We paid 50% on the first day that work began and the remaining balance on the final day. I would highly recommend DFW Improved and we will certainly use them in the future. Thanks to Corey and his team of workers!

The work they did on the roof, the ceiling and the painting looks great. I was very pleased with how the project manager handled everything. It seemed like he cared to get the job done right. When it came time to look at getting the kitchen and the bathroom done, we couldn't get the salesman interested anymore. It appears to me he was only interested in the insurance work. Once that was completed there was no interest in doing anymore work for us. We have since hired someone else on the List to complete the rest of the work for us. I marked that I would use them again in the future but only if we had another salesman. I would not deal with the one we had again.
Description of Work: We had several projects that needed done. We had a roof that needed replaced, a room where ceiling damage needed to be reapired. We also had some general painting that needed done. The kitchen needed some updating on the lighting. And last we wanted to do some remodeling of a bathroom.

They were very prompt and did the repairs well. The paint job is wonderful. The cleanup, however, was a bit haphazard. We still have paint chips in our beds and yard, which is why I gave an overall grade of B. I have used them before for interior work and will use them again soon for more interior work.
Description of Work: DFW Improved repaired facia and painted the outside of my home. The also power washed my house.

Initially called for estimate on removal of popcorn from ceilings in every room of two story townhouse and complete remodel of master bath. Do listen when they say you do not want to stay in your home during a popcorn ceiling removal project! I tried to stay and it was a terrible experience. I went to a hotel for several days during that portion. They did warn us. The master bath was a large and challenging project (due to an oddly placed heating/air conditioning unit that couldn't be moved)and Ed Westerman did a great job not only designing the room and managing the project but running with several detail ideas I put to him that turned out beautifully. He came himself even on the weekends to do some of the work. The designer, Kristie Uzelak, was wonderful to work with and has an excellent eye for details. There were bumps along the way (feet through the kitchen and laundry room ceilings). And Loews discontinuing a paint color previously used in a room. Their workers were all polite, clean and courteous at all times. We were so pleased with their services we also had them put new carpet in every room of the townhouse too after the other work was completed. We highly recommend using them.
