Appointments were kept.  Workers showed up on time.  They immediately responded to our concerns and even redesigned the patio cover to address one of them.  The construction leader, Abel, really knows what he is doing.  I love my new patio cover.  Jeff suggested the gable because I was concerned about light.  When my husband expressed concern about the drainage, Abel suggested a longer overhang which worked very well.  All the workers were friendly and professional.

I contacted the BBB before hiring this company and it got a good rating.  The one thing I did not do was contact the city.  I was very clear and told Todd (the owner) that I would pay in progress payments and that he had to pull permits and pass inspection and provide me with all those details before giving him the final payment.  He came back asking for final payment and I would not pay him until he provided me permits and showed that it passed inspections.  I never saw him again as I shortly received a letter from the city of Plano indicating that Dal Rich tried to pull permits but was denied because they failed other inspections.  The lesson learned was that the BBB isn't worth anything and I think it is corrupt that people should contact the city first to see if there is anything preventing the selected company from pulling permits.  This company does a nice job to the naked eye, but it is behind the scenes that we cannot see and why they fail inspections.  I WOULD NOT EVER hire this company!!
Response from Dal-Rich Company Inc
"Importantly, contractors/builders cannot construct legally in any DFW municipality, Plano or otherwise, without obtaining and closing out permits by city inspections performed in a timely manner (with vendor blacklisting being the penalty). Dal-Rich conducts business within each city in Collin, Dallas, Denton and Rockwall Counties (and subsequent HOA's) and are proudly recognized for our outdoor residential construction expertise, particularly in the complex areas of approved build-line, recess and easement design disciplines. We sincerely regret that this was [members name removed] perception of Dal-Rich's operating procedures back in 2001."

Project Manager started out great in late September through October of 2010.
Subcontractors removed all existing landscape and hardscape in professional manner.
Subcontractor for patio did a great job pouring and telling us how to care for patterened concrete.
The new patio cover went on well.  The city cited the work so rework and additional work had to be done to pass inspection.
Electricians seemed young and inexperienced.  The remote solution for our lights and fan did not work.
After many calls, the electricians returned on two occasions as I remember.  Still same problem.
A year later almost (around July 2011) and after reporting Dal-rich to the BBB, they sent someone out to fix the remote for our fan and patio lights.  Basically the remote solution does not work according to the electrician who suggested we just not use remotes.  He installed an enclosed switchbox.
I love the landscape solution except due to the hot summer, many of the new smaller plantings died.
Dal-rich did their part.  They seemed to have trouble getting the electrical people to do theirs.  Finally Dal-rich just wouldn't answer any of our calls.  We finally called BBB.

Dal Rich expressed enthusiasm regarding my project, and unlike three other contractors I contacted, Dal Rich actually 'asked for the business.' Dal Rich understood my 'vision' (sorry, pretentious) and worked with me. I was particularly pleased when it required a sub to replace a countertop that had a big seam/joint right in the middle. Again, they weren't the fastest, but the quality more than made up for it.

We found and researched Dal-Rich which seemed to have a friendly staff and a good reputation. The supervisor was enthusiastic and professional and insisted we remove the old arbor asap since it was rotting and could potentially collapse. The project went pretty quickly and they collaborated with us on a fairly custom design that we ended-up being very happy with. The construction was top notch and everything seems to be to code. We are pleased with the lighting as well. There was some miscommunication with the subcontractor electrician that insisted we pay right away for some add-ons, but Dal-Rich (the project supervisor) took care of it right away and rolled up everything into their final invoice. It was a little sluggish at the end when the structure was complete, there was a period when we didn't hear much from the company even getting a call to pay the final bill when the project had not had a final walk-through and sign-off. A few minor details like that toward the end took a little while to address, but nothing major. An example is the ceiling fan had to be taken apart for inspection, but it took a couple weeks to get it put back together - but we had not signed off on the project yet so we figured it would get done and it eventually did. The project supervisor left the company before the project was done which we were a bit disppointed over - he seemed to be the engine on service and communication to us. It seem that things didn't run as smoothly after he left. Overall Dal-Rich is a good organization with good, honest ownership and management. From our experience they want to please the customer.

The initial design violated the setback restrictions, so the patio and pergola had to be redesigned. The redesigned pergola seemed to large for the space, but I was assured by Todd that it would be fine. The finished pergola was roughly three-quarters the size in the design. He disagreed with the reduction in size and offered a discount that was low in my opinion. We came to a compromised discount. Good aspects of this project: High quality stamped concrete, stone bench, and pergola. Todd was very professional throughout the process. Bad aspects of this project: Took four months to complete, inaccurate design, inconsistent quality electrical work.

I thought the design was very good. There were no surprises along the way. It turned out beautifully and I would use them again.

This company was accurate on the estimate unless we added other projects. They were very detail and quality oriented. The owner of the company was very involved. The workers were very good, and creative. The finished project is how I had envisioned it.

Excellent - work done on time, even though the crews were busy with emergency repair work the week before, due to storms.

THIS COMPANY WAS VERY RESPONSIVE, AND PROMPTLY SUBMITTED A COMPREHENSIVE BID FOR THE PROJECT. ONCE ACCEPTED, THEY BEGAN WORK WITHIN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS, AND COMPLETED ON SCHEDULE. THE WORK WAS MAGNIFICENT, AND I COULD NOT BE MORE PLEASED WITH THE OUTCOME. I BELIEVE THE PROJECT WAS FAIRLY PRICED, AND THE WORKMEN WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND FRIENDLY. ALL AROUND AN OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE.

THE GUYS WHO CAME TO INSTALL THE FENCE WERE VERY HARDWORKING AND EXPERIENCED. THEY DID AN INCREDIBLE JOB AND I KNOW MY FENCE WILL LAST FOR QUITE A LONG TIME BECAUSE OF THEIR EFFORTS. THE OWNER IS A NICE GUY, TOO. VERY FAIR.
