Auto Tires
Several days after I got the rims put on my car I drove on the freeway & noticed some noise and vibrations in the steering that weren't there before. I'd had the alignment done on my XC90 less than four months back so immediately I thought it must be something with the new rims. I called AUTOBAY & spoke with the manager "Hammer" who said it sounded like I might need some hub rings in order for the ride to be as it was before getting the new rims. He asked if I'd come by and they'd take care of it. Once I arrived at the shop I was told the hub rings I needed for my Volvo weren't in stock and they'd place an order for them which would make it three days before they could fix the problem. I was also told flatly that the hub rings would be another $40. This amount might not sound like much but I came to this shop intending to get rims put on my truck for no more than $700 & after all was said & done ended up paying around $875-900. I don't feel I should have to pay another cent for fixing an issue that they should have known would be an issue before they started the job. I asked Hammer if he as the owner would consider making a call to satisfy a customer and if he'd include the hub rings in my deal in order to rectify the situation. His response was "I'm not the owner." We don't include those extra parts or things that might be needed when mounting the rims on your vehicle and then offered to discount the hub rings to $30. I remained quiet as customers walked into the shop & realized that my truck had been taken to the back for something. I quickly walked around to the back & asked the technician "Lathe" to please not do anything because I had a dinner reservation. I also asked if a customer isn't satisfied with their rims because they're clearly causing a performance & safety issue can the customer return the parts and demand a refund? Lathe answered once the rims are mounted on the vehicle they're used and are considered purchased. The following day I took my vehicle to a Discount Tire and discovered that the front driver side rim was not the correct bolt pattern for my truck. I returned to Autobay with my info and my original rims to demand they remove the newly mounted rims and a full refund. Hammer first proceeded to insult me by saying that I was hard headed and needed to listen better and also suggested that I leave the premises if I was unhappy with the situation. I replied, "Absolutely not!" I was unhappy with the situation but was not about to leave until things were made right. I then was given the option to give them a chance to get the hub rings in and fix the issue by the following weekend at no charge. That would have been the right thing to do the previous day but now I had information proving that they had actually mounted a rim on my car that wasn't even the right bolt pattern. I said, "What I'd like now is for my original rims to be put back on my vehicle and for my money to be refunded." They finally agreed but I was informed that there would be a 15% restocking fee, that I would have to pay a mounting fee and that I was responsible for the shipping costs they'd incurred after special ordering the rims for me. I was sick of fighting so I agreed to pay the fees & got out of there as soon as I could.
Response from AUTOBAY
"If a customer does not like wheels that usually happens within 24 hours, not after 8 days. After 8 days driving it in the rain wheel becomes used, no return. We stepped out of our way and against our posted policy of no returns and offered the customer free exchange with a style we like or $604.25 refund. He picked the refund and he signed."
