Troy Robinson founder of Absolute Roofing met with us. He bid on the project, we signed a proposal with him and gave him a deposit check. His guys demolished the interior of our home, taking out flooring, sheet rock, and counter tops. He then collected the first payment and we never heard from him again.
We found him online by doing a background check and found out he had 3 other judgements for taking deposit checks and disappearing. Each time he stole a check he would open a new business under another name. We then hired a lawyer and filed a judgement against him. We were able to get him to sign papers admitting guilt and agreeing to pay us back. He then signed the business over to one of his associates and left town, never paying us back.
But please check Angie's List and research contractors. It was an awful experience, costing us tens of thousands of dollars when we moved into our new home 5 years ago. The legal action was not fun, and we learned the hard way Texas law is not on the side of the homeowner.
