The shop was very busy when we arrived, and the tech said it would  be two weeks before they could look at our receiver, but they called a few days later with a diagnosis and a cost to fix. They didn't have to order parts; they were able to rebuild the older, lower-tech circuit board.  It was completed that day.
There is a non-refundable charge that must be paid in advance for diagnosis.  For our older, lower-tech receiver, it was $75.  For more complex items, it's higher. A sign told the usual diagnostic charge; I think it was $125 or $150.  For our receiver, we paid approximately an additional $75 on picking it up.
Why pay $150 to repair a receiver instead of buying a new, entry-level unit for about the same cost?  In our case, the old receiver had a combination of features that I couldn't find in new ones.

This guys are great.
Let me start by saying Kenny was in the shop working before opening time. Rather than having me wait until they opened, he unlocked the door about 45 minutes early to take in my receiver. My experience is most places don't even acknowledge you are there, let alone open early. The unit was under warranty. However I paid the $50.00 priority service fee. Money well spent. Reason being not 8 hours later I received a call from Ron. The unit was repaired. I picked it up today (my bad I didn't catch the young man's name who helped me). He had trouble finding the unit, and was very apologetic for the process taking so long. Even though it could have been more than 10 maybe 15 minutes. To me this is good old fashion customer service start to finish. Connected the unit back up a few minutes ago, works like new.

It was kind of a messed up affair.  They had trouble trying to fix it.  They couldn't find what was wrong with it.  They finally thought to figure it out; but when they tried to fix it, they still couldn't fix it.  They bought parts for it and tried to put it in, then tried to get it back out.  It still didn't work and that happened atleast three times.  Finally, they did fix it.  Initially, they quote me a specific price on it to be done.  With all the changing around on everything from this to that, that to this whatever case might be, the price still ended up being the same thing; so I don't know if that was good, bad or different.  The whole process took 3-4 weeks.  It was extremely dissatisfactory.  I had to call them to find out what was going on.  It finally came down with a conclusion with this thing that they evidently were shopping around trying to figure out, whatever was wrong with this thing.  One of the other guys in the shop notice that what they were going to do 3-4 weeks later ended up knowing that was why they have to be back.  It really got me going.  I really don't think I will use them again personally with all the process that we went through with them.  It reached the heights. The price was constant.

"I'm sorry to say we don't recall having this issue. I actually even tried to look up your name in our system and the hard copy and couldn't find your name. I just want to make sure it was us because there is another place called J electronics. And if it was us, I would like to see what happen and make sure your satisfied, because we are here to help and take care of the customer. Most of our the customer we tried to get out them out no more then 3 to 5 business days, unless the parts are on back order and at the same time we notify the customers."

The guy that came out saw that the TV was not plugged in all the way, and he still charged me full price to repair it, even though it was only a loose plug. Also he laughed at me when it was just the plug being loose. He could have just helped me over the phone, but he came out and charged to plug my TV back in. They wrote me a receipt, and said they fixed it, but it was just partially unplugged. I will not call them again. I was just not pleased with them. It was hard for me to see that the plug wasn't all the way in. He found the problem quickly and it was natural for him. I asked him if I could only pay half for him coming out, but he made me pay full price. I would recommend people not to call him. I have an older TV. They did come out the day after I called, which was the only good thing I would say about them. They were not at my house for long at all.

"Hi, We didn't not charge you to fix it. We only charged you the service call fee that we agreed on before we came to your house which was $70.00. As far as them laughing at you, I don't think that is right or they will do some thing like this, because we all make mistakes no one is perfect."

I stopped by the store to explain the problem to Ahmad (the owner). He and a technician came to my home approximately one hour later, looked at the TV, located the problem and one hour later two young men with a delivery van came to pick up the unit and take it to their shop. The TV was returned the next day, works perfect, and with a 90 day warranty on parts and labor. All four gentlemen involved were extremely polite, professional and timely. I was given a best case/worst case scenario as to price, which included a $70.00 service call, and the price I paid was at the lower end of their estimate.

They usually charge $70 for a service call; however since my problem was minor and didn't take much time, they charged me $60 instead. We are seniors and every little bit helps.

I dropped off our old TV to fix (half hoping I'd have to buy a new one). They charged $50 bench fee. They called me the next day and told me they would fix it for $150 which they did. Since it's a large TV I had them deliver it back to my home for $40. They were SUPER fast and professional. Here's the best part - a few days after they returned it they called back to ask if I was satisifed with the service!!!!! Now THAT's customer service!
