With regard to our contents, the company packed and moved all of our contents to a storage facility before construction began. Some of our items were never returned. When we contacted our insurance company about it, our adjuster went to their office and saw the items we described. They had sustained termite damage while in storage and Valley Wide was just not going to return the items. They were probably hoping we wouldn't miss the items. Valley Wide didn't even pay for the damage to our contents that were damaged by the termites, our insurance company ended up paying for it.
Also with regard to our contents, we paid over $23,000 for the cleaning, storage, etc. of our contents. When we asked that they be returned to our home Gene Riley refused to bring them back to our home unless he was paid in full for the project, even though it was not completely finished. According to Valley Wide's contract with the insurance company, they were not to be paid until the project was finished. However, we agreed to let the insurance company pay them as the project progressed. Since holding someone's belongings "hostage" until something is done is a crime called conversion, we were going to be forced to file a police report and have him arrested unless he returned our contents. He ended up going to a local attorney who apparently agreed with us and our contents were returned that day.
The project was supposed to take three months and it took six months. That's a long time to stay in a hotel. When we returned to our home, our neighbors told us they didn't think we would ever move back because the workers were always sitting out in our front yard in lawn chairs doing nothing.
And I saved the best for last. Our insurance company also paid Valley Wide for a port-a-potty. One day very early on during construction I went over to check out the progress of the house on my lunch hour. There was no port-a-potty at the house. As I was looking through the house, I went into the guest bathroom and found used toilet paper thrown in the corner of our bathroom floor. This company was very unprofessional and treated us with disrespect.
