Probably the worst experience I've had contracting a job out. Replaced a lot of fencing but did not make the gate wide enough as per our contract, so the mower would go through. Multiple, multiple unreturned emails and calls and a month later I finally had to go through BBB.He responded then and same BS as a response he gave here to another review, that he was out of town and was unreachable. Funny part, I emailed him from another email pretending to ask for a bid and got a prompt response during that time. He finally responded to BBB complaint but stated I never paid, even though the check was handed to him in person. I had to go pay my bank for a copy of the check as proof. Eventually he fixed the gate by cutting the supporting brackets in half and compromising the integrity. That took further pressing through the BBB to fix. He can do go work but you do not need the headache of dealing with such a person if issues come up. There are plenty other companies whose work is great and know how to stand right.

The fence looks great. Communication with Luis could have been better. I think emailing a page of FAQ when confirming the deal, to address who to pay on the work day, do I need to be present for any part of the project. And most importantly communicate the start time. I held off going to work the first day thinking thy would be there around 8. I texted night before for start time and got the reply next morning at 830 after I also called. To find they weren’t coming until 11 and I could have left for work already. And when it says Inthe agreement leave 1 foot room for workers- better leave 3 feet. I moved plants and put up a temporary fence panel to hold one plant out of the way. That panel removed, plants crushed. Day two saw them bring 2x4s in yard and toss them on ground crushing more plants. They need more room than 1 foot clearly . The stepped on /crushed 2 plants in the from yard along driveway where they stored the wood the first night. No mention or apology. Again, fence looks great. Best price of 4 quotes. Communication on what to expect on install day could be better

They replaced 140 feet of existing fence and installed 2 gates. The posts did not need to be replaced. The bid was reasonable and Luis, the owner, was punctual and professional. They said they would do the work on a set date and they lived up to it. The work was finished in one day and there was no mess left behind.

They cleaned up well after replacing the fence. They were just professional, punctual, and used quality materials. When there were things that needed to be fixed they just fixed them.

Installation of fence went fine, we were out of town. Afterwards they told me they damaged a neighbor's sprinkler. Turns out it was actually my sprinkler line which was close to the surface. Refused to fix it because it's in their agreement. Three boards left without nails in them. Not who I would suggest if you want detail and careful work. By the way, even when they thought it was my neighbor's sprinkler, they never told them.
Response from Ranchers Landscaping & Fencing
"Good Morning [Member name removed], Thank you for taking the time to write your feedback in regards to your experience with Ranchers. I wanted to inform you that the irrigation pipe that was damaged was not broken intentionally and given the tight room of where the new fence was installed, it was not possible to determine that it was a pipe that was broken. When the issue arose, we assumed it was a head since there was head in such area. I personally brought this matter to [Member name removed] attention so it could be relayed to your neighbor. Since we cannot see what is underground, our contract, for example the one you and I agreed to, states the following "Ranchers Landscaping is not responsible for underground lines, cables, or pipes but will call utilities to mark underground utilities." Additionally, I'm saddened that your overall experience was unpleasant being that we worked with you on this to the point that we provided you with a large discount. Once again, thank you for your feedback. We will use your feedback to improve our service with all future clients."

The work was scheduled to replace three sides of my backyard fence. Though we had rain the night before the first crew came out and took down old fence and put up metal post in cement. Two days later the owner Luis and his crew came out and put up the frame and planks. All work was done in two and half hours. Everything looks great and is a solid fence. Crew cleaned up and left nothing behind.

The overall experience was one of the worst I've had with any contractor in Austin.  I selected Ranchers based on the Angie's List reviews and Super Service Award.  Unfortunately my experience was nothing like the positive ones on here but similar to a couple of other recent reviews stating that the communication was terrible.  Anyway, Luis came out to my house to get the overview and do the estimate.  He wasn't the most personable guy but that doesn't really matter as long as the company does what they should.  He sent over the paperwork which I immediately signed on July 9th in order to get things moving.  He told me the earliest possible date to start and complete the work was August 13th and 14th.  I accepted the dates and waited for the 4-5 weeks.  I was told that his employees work from 8-6 so I naturally assumed they would show up at 8 as that is the only thing he told me.  On August 13th I sat around until about 10:30am with no one showing up.  I tried calling Luis but had to leave a voicemail.  I waited the rest of the day for a call back or for someone to show up but received no communication.  I emailed Luis around 5:30pm asking what happened and why no one showed.  I finally received some kind of response the next morning.  Luis emailed me to say that his workers accidentally went to the wrong house and worked on that fence and that he would reschedule me for August 19th.  The 19th comes around but Luis emails me in the morning saying they are not going to show up that day but will come out on the 20th.  This was disappointing but at least this time he had the decency to contact me.  On the 20th I again prepare to have workers show up at 8am but no one shows.  Around 9:30am I emailed and then later called Luis to find out why no one was at my house.  He answered the call and told me someone would be there around 4pm.  A worker did should up near 4pm and finally start the work.  He tore down the existing fence and put up some posts.  He told me as he left that he would be back first thing in the morning to finish the job.  On the 21st I wait around all day again and no one shows or contacts me.  I send Luis another email telling him he has until the end of the weekend to finish the job or I'm getting someone else to do it.  I didn't get a response but a worker showed up the next morning and finished the job.  I didn't hear anything from Luis until the 28th when he asked for his payment.  I responded to ask him if I was going to receive any kind of restitution for the time wasted sitting around and money spent boarding my dog for extra days. He offered $75 and said that I was never told that I needed to be home nor to board the dog.  He was correct that he never explicitly said to do so but his job would not have been completed had I not been home.  His employees needed power outlets for their tools on both days that they showed up and we do not have exterior outlets.  We had to run power from inside the house.  I also explained to him during the estimate that we would board the dog for this time and mentioned it several times during the whole process.  The boarding on expected work days is certainly not his expense but when he leaves my home in a state in which the dog can not use the yard for extra time than agreed upon and he knows this is a concern, he could offer something to reimburse charges.  The dog charges are a minuscule amount compared to my wasted hours sitting around only to be stood up over and over again though.  The entire situation wrapped up with this money dispute.  I offered him 90% of the cost because I felt the $75 off was too small.  He cashed the check and then kept coming after me for the rest of the money.  The best and most communication I ever received from this company was when they had something they wanted, their money.  I eventually just paid him since the extra amount was not worth arguing over any more and I just wanted to forget the entire interaction with this company.  Clearly I would never hire this company again.

We were very impressed with Luis and his crew.  Luis was easy-going and professional throughout the process.  Very patient and helpful with all of my questions and plan adjustments.  The crew was also very professional, skilled, and efficient.  The final product looks great and is very sturdy.  I have no problem whatsoever highly recommending Rancher's Landscaping and Fence.

I definitely recommend Rancher?s Landscaping for fence work.  When we were looking at replacing our fence, the job quickly grew to include three of our neighbors.  We interviewed and got bids from 6 different fence companies and laid all the variables down in a spreadsheet.  We also took into account the ?feel? we got from each company and read their online reviews.  Although Rancher?s Landscaping was not the absolute lowest price they were, by far, the best value.  Their workmanship, quality of materials, and honesty were all outstanding.  The crew was very hard working, respectful and happy to accommodate any small requests we had along the way.   The finished product is exactly what we expected.  After the job we noticed a few small ?touchups? that were needed and also a broken sprinkler pipe and they were quick to come out and get it all taken care of.  It will probably be 15-20 years until I need a new fence but, when that time comes, I know who I am going to call!

After getting three other estimates from other companies in addition to Ranchers I decided to go with Ranchers. They were neither the cheapest not the most expensive estimate, but the most accurate in terms of actual length of fencing needed, provided the most detailed and easily understood estimate as well as the least gougey presentation. For example, they did not treat screws as a high dollar upgrade, rather screws are simply the way a fence is built correctly, which I agree with. The upcharge for galvanized steel posts was also very reasonable whereas others were unabashedly charging, in one case, almost 25% additional on the job for the privilege.
The owner of the company, Luis Alvarez, came by to do the estimate personally the same day I called him and was very professional and clear about costs, materials, construction methods and time frame. It's the little things that can win you over, the estimate was printed on nice paper, laid out well, with costs clearly identified in a manner easily understood. Two of the other contractors gave me verbal bids which I shouldn't have to point out is a HUGE red flag. The third of the four gave me an almost illegible chicken scratch mess on aging carbon paper. The last of these, Mr. Chicken scratch was also the highest bid by far, insisting that pressure treated pine was "fine for TX", also thinking that galvanized posts were "overkill". Well, Luis felt a better fence was screwed 3/4 cedar, with cedar cross bars, and steel posting.
As they say, you don't gotta buy it, cause this s*** sells itself.
I actually got the estimate back in August but didn't act on it until last week for a variety of reasons, but when I called him he was able to get started in roughly 10 days after my phone call with him and a signed estimated emailed back. There were some hiccups in scheduling, but Luis communicated well and the team that did come was very hardworking and cleaned up well after the job. It should be noted that he assured me the posts would be sunk 2' in the ground which i was a bit skeptical about as where I am in Cedar Park soil is rare; rock, then more rock, followed by rock, with a healthy dose of solid limestone is generally what one has in the backyard. No worries, they whipped out the airtools and in short time had truly jackhammered to a depth of two feet everywhere. Very impressive, these posts could stop a small aircraft.
The following day, the crew was on site at 9am banging it out like they had a hit on them. The owner showed up a bit later to help with finish work and final construction and they were done by 2pm leaving a clean worksite. The fenceline is laser straight and they were able to perfectly recreate the odd property lines on both sides of the house. They aligned the fence off the ground and maintained the line very well. The gates on both sides are perfect with nice hardware and pinky finger swing. The gate on the right side of the house had been so hard to open I pretty much stopped using it about 2 years ago, so this is refreshing, it's kinda like having a new house. The little jumps on the property line on both side of the house were not just open gaps, they took the time to screw bits of the cedar 2x4s on 90s top and bottom and picket the area as well. The overall attention to detail is excellent.
As I have made clear, the construction quality is very good, but the overall look is terrific. The fence is gorgeous. Simple as that. I have recommended them to all my friends on Facebag as well as my own mother who needs about 110ft replaced on one side of her house. The price might seem high to some, you might be cruising Homedepot or Lowes thinking this is a rip, but it's apples and oranges. You get what you pay for. You want Homedepot pressure treated crappola that will look like 3.2 metric tonnes of cat barf (these are scientific terms) in the space of 3 years, knock yourself out. You want the real deal, call Luis.
As Benjamin Franklin's personal choreoanimator was known to say, "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten"
