The worst job I have ever seen. Took weeks. Terrible follow up. Stay away from these people

We were told this would be a 3-4 day job, it was about 30. Unbeknown to use Alden hired a subcontractor to do the work. In short order they told us we needed to replace all of the decking. We had a home builder come out and take a look and he said no way, there were a few spots that needed replacing but that was it. That crew disappeared and one of Alden's "best" crews came out to complete the work. What a joke. They took over a week, had a pit bull running off leash around our house, but finally finished in a bout a week. Our handyman just happened to come by to check about cleaning our windows. He took several pictures of the roof and imagine our surprise when we learned that 2 different grades and colors of tiles were used, poor workmanship, failure to seal properly etc. Alden finally sent one of their best foreman out who confirmed the poor workmanship. At no time did Josh Knox, the owner of Alden Roofing come to check out the work. In fact my husband only spoke with him 2x. Alden did in the end make the job right but it was one miserable experience.

It went well. My only complaint is that they have not entirely finished the job including a damaged awning that needs to be replaced.

Mr. Alden came to my house and we talked about the type of roof and everything that would be involved, when they will start, how long it will take them, and what type of clean up they were going to do. We discussed a few problems that I was having and he said he would look at it and address it if it needed addressing, and they did everything that he said they were going to do the way he said they were going to do it. It took a little bit longer to get it done because they found some things that took a little bit longer to tear out and repair, but they were very good. I probably would recommend them. They did a great job. Their price was right in line with everybody else. I guess they were just as good as anybody else and I thought they were reasonable. They were very responsive and very, very punctual.

It went well. They suggested that I file a claim with my homeowners' insurance, and helped negotiate with the adjuster, citing the relatively new age of the existing roof and evidence of hail damage as reasons. The price they quoted was competitive with other quotes I got, and the sales guy seemed to be willing to do a lot more work to get my business than most others.
Their sales guy was reasonable and polite, and showed up on time. The day of the job, their workers showed up really early in the morning, worked until mid afternoon, and were gone pretty much without a word.
It's been a few months now, and the roof doesn't leak, looks good, and has all the features they said it would. Time will tell I suppose, but I see no reason not to give these guys high marks. I'd use them again.

ALDEN DID A WONDERFUL JOB IN BIDDING ON AND RE-ROOFING OUR HOME. SENIOR ESTIMATOR JOSH KNOX WAS VERY COMPREHENSIVE IN HIS INSPECTION AND ANALYSIS OF THE PROJECT.HE CAREFULLY EXPLAINED HIS BID AND OUTLINED ALL SUBSEQUENT STEPS OF THE PROCESS INCLUDING INTERACTION WITH OUR INSURER. THE ROOFING CREW WAS VERY EXPERIENCED AND THE FINISHED ROOF IS EXCELLENT IN APPEARANCE AND FUNCTION. tHE CREW DID A FINE JOB IN PROTECTING SHRUBBERY AND DID A COMPREHENSIVE JOB IN CLEANING UP AFTER THE ROOF INSTALLATION.

It went fine. The Alden representative contacted us the day after the hailstorm and while he was up on the roof I went to Angie's List and read reviews on the company's past performance. The representative was courteous; he left a written bid for the work with each element of the work called out and estimated. Our insurance company evaluated the damage and verified what Alden's representative had told us about the extent of the damage. We contracted with Alden because we were pleased with their pre-contract bid and their reputation with our insurance company. The actual install was quite unremarkable, which is a good thing in my opinion. The crew arrived around 0800 and by late morning had removed all shingles and underlayment and disposed of them off site. Early afternoon began the install of the new materials and they were completed by late afternoon. We did not leave the house during that time -- most people do, but we did not find it impossible to be inside the house while the work was underway. My husband actually napped through it! I cleaned house so I was making noise myself. The crew left the yard clean. I might mention that Alden has done a number of roofs in our area simultaneously, which likely means they brought on extra crews to do the work. It looks like they managed this and quot;surge capacityand quot; quite well and to everyone's satisfaction.

In the beginning I was excited to be working with Alden Roofing. My sales guy seemed very knowledgeable about the insurance in's and out's and found a few things the insurance adjuster missed in the original estimate. He was very friendly and personable. There website listed multiple offices and they came recommending by Home Advisor. Once it came time to replace the roof I decided I'd call them back out and tell them what another company had offered and wanted them to do the work if they were willing to work with my circumstances. Since we've had to do a FULL remodel on my Father In Laws house, cash on hand was a little tight. They were willing to let me purchase materials and put them on my 0% finance card to give me a little time to pay it off. I was very grateful for that. We were set up for install Friday February 1st. Home Depot brought materials over about 11 and all was well. I'd even made an extra run to Home Depot to pick up a couple more pieces of decking. Mr. Alden stopped by on his way out of town to pick up a check. Which looking back I should have held on to, at this point! At this time I told Mr. Alden that my cousin worked for Liberty Mutual and had made me aware that a common problem they see with roofers is them not installing the product correctly. I asked him if his guys knew how to do the install and he assured me they were professionals and would do it the correct way. I felt assured that they knew what they were doing and let them do their work. They finished up the project sometime Friday evening.
Bright and early Saturday morning, the first thing I did was crawl up on the roof and start looking at my install. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE it was not done correctly. I called Mr. Alden immediately and left him a message that we have a problem. He got back in touch with me and sent over there inspector to take a look at the job. I was very aggravated that the ONE REQUEST I had asked of them was done incorrectly. It states on the packaging how these shingles are suppose to be installed AND I EVEN TOLD MR.ALDEN that I wanted to make sure that was done correctly before his crew even had put one nail into my roof. Their inspector came out and was very deflecting of my concerns. We talked about how the shingles were suppose to be properly installed. I talked about how I wished his guys would have pointed out I needed more decking replaced before the roof went on and we talked about my issues I was having with the install. I don't work on roofs, so I don't know the ins and outs about things as far as wear on them when installed incorrectly. My biggest concern is leaks and running into issues down the road that will arise from this bad install. I also am concerned that when I need repairs done, that I may not even be able to get a hold of their company.
At this point I've tried to contact Mr. Alden SEVERAL times. Left multiple messages on his cell phone to call me back. As of now the only one I've been able to contact is a guy at the office named Josh Knox who claimed he would extend my warranty, but at this point of lack of concern for something installed correctly I don't think extending the warranty is going to work for me since I can't even get the person I did business with to return my calls. That doesn't leave me much hope for future dealings with this company. I think I'm going to need a little help resolving this, since my attempts to contact them and try to work things out is not working.

4/2013 After complaints with Angieslist, BBB and HomeAdvisor, I was unable to come to an agreement with Alden Roofing. It was pretty obvious they did not want to be responsible for their incorrectly put on roof. They were OK with the install because they already had been paid for it. They did offer to extend the warranty, which is great IF they are still in business in the future when and if it is ever needed. UNFORTUNATELY with the way they handled this situation I'm not very confident in their future service. Hopefully I will be wrong. Lesson learned and no checks will trade hands in the future with ANY BUSINESS (regardless of how honest and nice the person seems) until the work has been checked and it is done to the standard of the manufacturers instruction- NOT the way the roofing company thinks it will be OK. I would not and will not recommend this roofing company to anyone else and I am still very disappointed in the professionalism of handling this matter. If I had time and money, I would probably attempt to take them to court to get my money back. Hope the roof lasts and doesn't have issues do to the negligent contractor they have working for them that did not install correctly.

They were excellent. From the time they got here to the time they left they had a whole crew on top of my roof. They did not even take fifteen minutes for lunch. What they said is what they did. They stayed till dark and delivered on time. They got here at 7.30 and stayed till night. My porch light did not work in front and I did not have another one but they still worked in the dark. He gave me a feedback form to fill out. They asked me if I could put a fan in my courtyard before they started. I got them from the lady that lives across the street and I watched them put her roof from my kitchen window. They were in harmony with each other. There was somebody on the roof all day long. They were very nice and professional. The inspector/foreman came by to make sure the re-roofing was done and they said they would be back later to see how we were doing. I like the fact that everybody that works is a family member, only one or two worked out of the family. They came out to check on the crew. I am just real pleased. I looked, watched and talked to the people that did the roof. They were truthful. They said I should not pay for the work until I okay it. They have been in Richardson for years. I came to know that they are one of my neighbors.

Very professional and easy to work with. I had them replace the roof on this, my primary residence, and one rental property. On both jobs, they were on-budget and on-time. They had to work late one evening on my rental property due to events out of their control but they worked until the job was done and there was never any mention of additional costs. I would recommend Alden Roofing to anyone/everyone considering a new roof or repairing an existing roof.

They cleaned after themselves and disposed of the old roof. I had dealt with one person who came and gave me an estimate. What ever day they said they would deliver the materials they had. Everything went well and I did not have any problems.

The estimator, Josh, was the most professional estimator we met with compared to the other companies we got estimates from. They were all on time from the estimator, roofers, and inspector. We have not had any problems with our new roof even after a few storms.

They were very good. They guy and we told him what we wanted. Then we shopped around with other people. He came back and told us what he would do. They seemed to a better place and their follow up was real good. They would come back even now and correct if anything was wrong. They came when they said they would.
