Their sales guy was reasonable and polite, and showed up on time. The day of the job, their workers showed up really early in the morning, worked until mid afternoon, and were gone pretty much without a word.
It's been a few months now, and the roof doesn't leak, looks good, and has all the features they said it would. Time will tell I suppose, but I see no reason not to give these guys high marks. I'd use them again.
Bright and early Saturday morning, the first thing I did was crawl up on the roof and start looking at my install. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE it was not done correctly. I called Mr. Alden immediately and left him a message that we have a problem. He got back in touch with me and sent over there inspector to take a look at the job. I was very aggravated that the ONE REQUEST I had asked of them was done incorrectly. It states on the packaging how these shingles are suppose to be installed AND I EVEN TOLD MR.ALDEN that I wanted to make sure that was done correctly before his crew even had put one nail into my roof. Their inspector came out and was very deflecting of my concerns. We talked about how the shingles were suppose to be properly installed. I talked about how I wished his guys would have pointed out I needed more decking replaced before the roof went on and we talked about my issues I was having with the install. I don't work on roofs, so I don't know the ins and outs about things as far as wear on them when installed incorrectly. My biggest concern is leaks and running into issues down the road that will arise from this bad install. I also am concerned that when I need repairs done, that I may not even be able to get a hold of their company.
At this point I've tried to contact Mr. Alden SEVERAL times. Left multiple messages on his cell phone to call me back. As of now the only one I've been able to contact is a guy at the office named Josh Knox who claimed he would extend my warranty, but at this point of lack of concern for something installed correctly I don't think extending the warranty is going to work for me since I can't even get the person I did business with to return my calls. That doesn't leave me much hope for future dealings with this company. I think I'm going to need a little help resolving this, since my attempts to contact them and try to work things out is not working.
4/2013 After complaints with Angieslist, BBB and HomeAdvisor, I was unable to come to an agreement with Alden Roofing. It was pretty obvious they did not want to be responsible for their incorrectly put on roof. They were OK with the install because they already had been paid for it. They did offer to extend the warranty, which is great IF they are still in business in the future when and if it is ever needed. UNFORTUNATELY with the way they handled this situation I'm not very confident in their future service. Hopefully I will be wrong. Lesson learned and no checks will trade hands in the future with ANY BUSINESS (regardless of how honest and nice the person seems) until the work has been checked and it is done to the standard of the manufacturers instruction- NOT the way the roofing company thinks it will be OK. I would not and will not recommend this roofing company to anyone else and I am still very disappointed in the professionalism of handling this matter. If I had time and money, I would probably attempt to take them to court to get my money back. Hope the roof lasts and doesn't have issues do to the negligent contractor they have working for them that did not install correctly.
