SIMS CONSTRUCTION

Carey Sims, the contractor, started off on our bathroom renovation very strong. The first bathroom he worked on had only install work, so things went smoothly at first. He also redid all the plumbing in both bathrooms to replace the old existing 30 year old copper piping. So installation went pretty fast. Carey was able to come into our house unsupervised and was able to finish cosmetically 90% of the work in the first bathroom. The trouble started when he offered to fix our second bathroom. Carey convinced us to pay for the second bathroom up front, which we mistakenly did. He completely tore out everything in the second bathroom himself and was able to install the tile floor. However, when he began to install the tile in the shower, we had to stop him because we were unhappy with the work. The tile was crooked and the work was very sloppy. After we told him that we wanted to meet with him to go over some of the tile work and make some corrections- he stopped showing up. He would contact us by text with his wife was sick, then he was sick, his tire blew out, his daughter had gone blind, his house flooded. Either he has the worst luck, or he was finding excuses not to come finish the work at our house. Since February, he's shown up one time. He would text us and say he would come by on such and such day and time. We would take off work and make arrangements, only to have him stand us up. This began to happen numerous occasions. He would set up a time to meet us and then he would no show every single time. He finally showed up a few weeks ago because we threatened to take him to court. Around this time, we discovered that the shower in the first bathroom had no hot water, making the shower inoperable. When the breaker is tripped on the bathroom outlet, our garage door is affected (the garage is next to the bathroom). The base boards and door frame were never installed, so the first bathroom is pretty much unusable. The second bathroom has nothing installed, so it is not usable. Luckily we have another bathroom that we use regularly that is still operational. We are in the process of taking him to small claims court. When we tried to look up his plumbing license to file a complaint against him, we discovered he does not have one (even though he told us he did). Not only has he not finished work on either bathroom, he also charged us for material that was never delivered.
