It went horribly!!! There was a pony wall removed and caution was not taken, so it was learned afterwards the wall was load bearing. The upstairs doors and floor shifted, as a result. Brace Across was also hired to replace my countertop, backsplash and island. The hole for the countertop was cut incorrectly. I was without a sink for months, until I settled for something less than what I had. I asked that the countertop and island that was there not be disposed of to allow me to use it elsewhere. It was nothing wrong with it and it was granite. I was told it could be saved, but It was taken without my consent. I had to hire a structural engineer due to the removal of the wall and install a beam with no support from the contractor. The City of Grand Prairie said a structural engineer should have been consulted by the contractor from the beginning. The structural engineer said the same. There are periods of time he (Brace Across) would go mute/disappear to avoid taking responsibility…my opinion. Brace Across did close the ceiling after I installed the very expensive beam. The contractor, Brace Across, agreed to replace the backsplash, sink, and correct the movement of the doors and floor upstairs that was caused by the removal of the pony wall. Once he figured out how to get a sink installed that is now settling, he decided he was done and was not doing anything else to correct the remainder that was messed up by his company. During the process of the work, the worker he hired disappeared for days and no one contacted me or told me what was going on. The worker returned days, maybe a week later. and he was obviously angry. He had been arrested and put in jail. When he was discharged, he was sent back to my house to finish the job. That’s how I ended up with a messed up back splash and less than desirable work around my fireplace. The owner of Brace Across agreed it was messed up and it was something he wouldn’t want in his home, yet he wanted me to share in the cost of what he messed up. I did agree to pay what I had agreed to pay from the beginning, had there not been any screw-ups. He decided he wasn’t going to do anything else, but would buy the material for the backsplash that I have not received. He then referred to the upstairs damage as settling; however if it had been done properly from the beginning, I would likely not have removed the wall. If I did remove the wall, it would have been braced properly before the removal. He didn’t know enough to do this level of work, but he did it anyway; and I have suffered immensely for it. He drug this thing out for months and months, leading me to believe he would correct what was wrong. He comes across very meek and kind initially. He speaks of his relationship with God. I won’t question anyone’s relationship with God, but I will tell you he is not the meek and kind man he presents on the front end. As long as things are going in his favor, he presents well. When he is on the other end, there’s a different person. I say beware and hire at your own expense. I still have the messed up backsplash, settling sink, upstairs doors and floor that are shifted, cracked and/or separated. I paid him so far $6500. I paid around $5000 for a beam, structural engineer and related cost. I paid several hundreds for the cost of marble backsplash material. The cost of what he left messed up will be in addition to it. Since he went back on our original agreement, I am planning to go to court to seek restitution for all of it. Thank you, Angie, for the opportunity to report this. I do not want anyone else to have to experience this and wonder if anyone else has and didn’t have the resolve to speak on it.
