Home Building
Absolute nightmare in the end. Contractor completely underestimated time and cost to build. Estimated at 270,000 - actual cost 335,000. More interested in outside personal activities than getting the job done. Hired complete incompetents to do subcontracting work (except for electrical and plumbing). Tile and detail work was amateur at best. Had to spend an additional 8,000 to re-do bathroom tiling - contractor knew this but did not offer to fix or help in any way. Also - roof continued to leak after contractor finished (more like was thrown off site...). Had to spend 850 dollars to repair roof. I was recently was contacted by a collection agency who informed me that he was evading their request to pay a bill to IESI and that I would have a mechanic's lien on my property if it wasn't taken care of - so I had to pay his bill - which is another 450 dollars. I am currently re-doing a wall in my bathroom that was crooked. Also my oak staircase has to be completely re-done due to the trim subcontractor completely ruining it (his main job is slab construction - why he was doing trim is anybody's guess).
3/25/2013 update -
Had to completely gut and redo master bathroom due to shoddy tile work and shower leakage. Cost: > $10K
2/7/2014 update -
Drywall cracking everywhere. Ceiling looks like someone walked on the drywall in the attic. More money down the drain.
