Golden Triangle Plumbing Services

On 9/6/11, noticed water leak outside house.  Water was accumulating in flower bed betw. house and piece of lawn.  Placed order with home warranty company & job was contracted to Golden Triangle Plumbing.  That afternoon, worker dug out spot approx. 2' by 1' in size.  Said there was leak on main copper piping betw. house & meter (39' long).  Told us the following:  (1) not covered by our home warranty, (2) no way to tell exactly where leak was, (3) plants, cement & grass might have to be dug up, and (4) last time someone had this work done, involved digging up yard almost to meter and it cost $800-900.  My wife signed estimate for that amount based on what we were told this type of job would cost when it entailed extensive work.  On 9/7/11, 2 workers explained actual problem involved 2 PVC pieces close to area already dug that were not glued together.  They agreed when my wife said we "dodged a bullet" since problem was a lot less severe than originally thought.  Workers left to get parts & then completed job that day, leaving in between for another job in area.  Workers gave us bill in excess of $800.  We complained about cost.  Even though it was within estimate, estimate was based on much more extensive work needing to be done.  No plants, lawn or cement were affected.  3 phone calls occurred that day concerning price where contractor was rude, disrespectful & insulting.  He threatened  to dig parts up & sue us.  He kept interrupting us, but told my wife she was disrespectful.  Then said Northerners are knwon to be disrespectful (we are from NY).  Price went down to an even $800 and then $700.  Asked how he arrived at figures & what the cost of parts & hourly rate for labor were.  Said it was $250 an hr for each worker for 2 1/2 hours (approx. $1,250).  On 9/8/11, contractor called my wife with offer of $650.  Told contractor we were in process of filing complaint with Better Business Bureau.  We offered to settle for $600 &, if accepted, would not proceed with complaint.  He got angry, refused to budge on price, & said that there was nothing to negotiate because we were not in Mexico!  He then  told me that price was now increased to $900.  I told him that we would be proceeding with complaint with Better Business Bureau.
