What a nightmare! The experience from start to finish was incredibly frustrating and the quality of the job is poor. When visiting my home to give an estimate, the salesman showed up over two hours late. In two subsequent scheduled visits to provide a color sample and give me the written quote, he was very late for one and never showed up for the other even though I had come home from work to accommodate the meeting time. During the installation, the workers did not put down tarps in several areas to catch the shingles and nails they removed from my previous roof and the screws and metal shards discarded while installing the new metal roof. Even after the crew was sent out on two follow-up trips to 'clean up' the nails, screws, metal shards, shingle pieces, etc., I have still picked up well over 200 pieces of metal debris & shingles from my driveway, lawn, patio and flowerbeds that are dangerous to people, pets, lawnmowers, and car tires. While installing the roof, the workers also played loud music, left dozens of cigarette butts all over my property, bent the culvert in my driveway with heavy equipment, and parked trucks on the wet grass leaving deep ruts. When they asked for final payment, I told them that the job was not finished. They had promised to install flashing where the roof met the patio cover but it had not been done and clearly no supervisor had checked to be sure the job had been finished satisfactorily. The flashing on the chimney is also particularly ugly but I was told that it is “just the way it is always done”. The biggest frustration that has caused me to write this review is that I told them at the very beginning of the estimate process that I would be having gutters installed to keep rain from soaking the foundation of my house. I explained it to the salesman and the workers and they told me that gutters required a ‘drip edge’ and they installed this on the fascia board which clearly shows they understood that I intended to install them. When the company that I hired to put up the gutters came to install them, they said that the roof overhang was 3” which, because of the pitch of the roof, did not allow them enough room to get their tools in to hang the gutters. Four other area roofers were contacted and all said that the maximum overhang when gutters were to be installed is 1 – 1 ½ inches. When I called Castletop, they said that 3” is ‘industry standard’ and said they would talk to the man installing my gutters about it. He did not call him as promised, and did not return a call that the gutter installer made to him. After their refusal to correct the problem, I had to pay another roofer to cut the excess overhang off so gutters could be installed. Five months after the installation was “completed” the owner of Castletop, heard about my dissatisfaction from acquaintances in the community and called to apologize for the problems I had had. He came to my home on May 13, 2016, and apologized profusely for the unacceptable installation and customer service I had received. We walked around the house together and he pointed out areas on the roof that had not been done correctly and collected another handful of additional screws, nails, metal shards, shingles, cigarette butts, etc. that were still being uncovered in the lawn and flowerbeds. He reimbursed me for the cost I had incurred to remove the excess overhang that prevented gutter installation and promised me that he would “personally” come back and make sure the following issues had been resolved to my satisfaction early the following week (May 16-20, 2016): 1. re-do places on the roof where it had not been fastened down smoothly 2. run a magnet around the house to remove all remaining metal and clean-up shingle pieces 3. fill in the ruts in the lawn caused by worker’s trucks 4. reshape the culvert bent by their equipment Today is August 10th. 12 weeks have passed since his visit to my home and not one of the items he promised to fix has been done. For $13,983.09, I got terrible customer service, unacceptable behavior and poor skills from the workers, and an improperly installed roof that wouldn’t accommodate simple gutters. Castletop Roofing did not provide agreed upon installation, good customer service, or follow through on promises -- even when made by the owner.
