Garden Guy was great in supplying sample pavers etc.
This company did a fantastic job. Both the front and back yards looks fantastic.
Todd was responsive to a couple late changes my husband wanted to make and very flexible in working them in.
We love our landscaping and it gets better with time.
The few times we called for advice in maintaining the work they have been totally responsive.
We would definitely use The Garden Guy again.
The service was expensive, but you get what you pay for. We chose him because of his knowledge, background, and because of his relationship and cooperation with a highly recommended sprinkler system company.
Quality:
The gardens are great. We are happy we invested. Todd's design has created a space that is a joy year round, and we receive a lot of compliments. We have recommended him to many of our friends and neighbors, and Garden Guy has made many installations in our neighborhood as a result. Most of the plants have been self-maintaining. Some of them have overgrown the space available, in large part because his maintenance schedule has been so irregular.
Responsiveness:
We are not really sure why Todd even offered the quarterly maintenance, but that was one of his selling points. We were initially unable to afford the service and tried to take care of the gardens ourselves, or just schedule his services once a year, but soon we realized we did not have the time to keep them up and we also needed his expertise to keep our investment healthy.
Curiously, from the beginning, we had to hound him to get any maintenance service scheduled. Contacted him by phone, email, text. After the short initial DIY time, we asked repeatedly to be put on either an annual, semi-annual or the regular quarterly maintenance schedule, but for some reason he could not or would not do any of this. Once he arrived and did the work, the gardens always thrived, so we wanted to continue the relationship.
He seems really really busy, but so are we. Because it was so hard to reach him, we provided details in writing about what we thought was needed, and included suggestions about changes or replacement plants we were considering. Todd is very knowledgeable, and we always felt his input and collaboration were vital. The maintenance service is expensive, so we always asked for an estimate in advance to help us understand the costs involved, and to give us the option of delaying any replacements or changes that exceeded our budget.
Punctuality:
It might take 3 or 4 months to get on the schedule (or longer!), but once estimates were received, they were always clear, and the work progressed promptly as scheduled.
Professionalism:
We asked him repeatedly to tell us if he no longer offered the maintenance service so we could find another company. He would eventually respond with a schedule after multiple contacts from us, but with no explanation for the delay. However, getting him to respond and put us on the schedule might take three or four months. Then in spring 2014, after stating he would put us on the schedule the next week or so, he quit answering us altogether. So odd, after all our referrals for him, and after all these years. We hope he is OK.
"We are sorry that we could not get your project. Please accept our apologies."
He came over promptly on the day of service and brought his foreman and two helpers. They finished the work in just under 3 hours. They first removed 3 ligustrums, revamped the soil, and laid out a set of border stones. Then put on a fresh bed of mulch. Next came the planting of a mix of 26 shrubs: azaleas, camellias, and sweet viburnums. They watered them all and cleaned up nicely. Garden Guy notified me that 3 of the camellias were not available yet, so removed the amount from our bill and planned to come back to plant them once available. The Garden Guy has great attention to detail - evident when he asked his guys to adjust the position of a few shrubs to better compliment our house window layout and take into account drip lines from the roof.
What was a bonus for us was that they removed the remaining old grass sod that I had not completed yet, without charge! I had re-sodded half of my grass the weekend before and they saved me probably 2 hours of work. They also hauled away a load of extra dirt from my earlier sod removing efforts.
My wife was very happy when she came back to see the results. The Garden Guy was able to brighten up a yard that had limited light exposure and create a modern clean look. We were very pleased with the outcome and highly recommend Garden Guy.
Garden Guy's service was professional and was handled with integrity. (In fact, all of the landscaping professionals we found through Angie's List were professional and managed their business with integrity.) Genuine professionals project competence and ability, which is what we found in all phases of the project working with Garden Guy.
We marked the pricing as C for average, as the pricing was high compared to other offerings, but there were intangible values that Garden Guy brought to the work. Also, one of the plants is suffering from too much water (roof runoff) so we marked Quality a touch away from perfect. All other plants (20+) are doing great. If we could share pictures, they would really showcase the work.
Clean-up was very good and the work crew was professional. No issues at all.
A few weeks after the work, Garden Guy swung past our property to see how things looked. He gave us a courtesy call with a few recommendations to keep everything looking great.
Overall, we're very pleased with the work. We recommend Garden Guy without reservations.
"Many thanks, (Member name removed)! Blessings on you all and your home. --Sabrina & Todd"
I called Todd and was very pleased with his response to my questions and requests. He came promptly to all appointments and kept me informed along the way. He did a rough sketch of what he was going to do, and what he intended to plant. I asked him to substitute one kind of tree for another, which he did.
I had done some research on the requirements for a root barrier, and Todd suggested exactly the kind of thing I had read about. His guys had to cut the bamboo back a little more than I wanted in order to install the root barrier, but I'm sure it will fill in again. The rest of the garden looks great. I waited to write this review until the plants had had a little time to establish themselves, and they're doing fine. Some are already twice the size they were when he planted them. It will take some time for the roses to create the arbor and climb up on the fence, but they're progressing nicely. And the best thing is that I began to see Monarch butterflies right away, and have seen them almost every day since. Too cool!
