Raintree's owner, Charlie Grimes, told me the effort would take 4 to 5 days. The entire job took 2 days and 3 hours. Raintree used a roofing crew that also installs residential roofs four 4 other local Midland Roofing Companies. For my job, 12 crew members showed up on location and worked to completion, most on the roof, some on the ground, some operating the forklift and truck. I suppose many had finished another job and were added to the my Raintree job. A Foreman with 35 years of experience was on the ground throw out the job. The new medium to dark gray roof does not leak water, has perfect flashing around the chimney, with edges that have perfect overhang and metal siding. The crew did an excellent job cleaning up around the house each evening before calling it quits.

Great, then horrible.

The first estimate went well, and I was pleased with the estimate (although he was 2 hours late).  The company found hail damage that my insurance adjuster missed, so we scheduled an appointment a week and a half in advance for both the roofer and adjuster to inspect together.

The roofer was told to bring a large ladder because I have a two story house.  The insurance adjuster arrived on time, but the roofer was 30 minutes late.  When he did arrive, he did not have the ladder.  He was aggressive and rude to me and said we would have to reschedule again.  He said he had other jobs and he did not have time for this.

While I was  speaking to the adjuster about re-scheduling, the roofer just left.  It was like trying to give him business was an inconvenience.

Do not use this company.  I now have to start all over again and I still have a leaky roof.

B/c re-roofing is a service so infrequently encountered by homeowners, caution is to be exercised when dealing with contractors in our W. Texas community following hailstorms. This particular company (Raintree Roofing) is locally owned, has been in business since 1995, and has recorded no complaints lodged, acc'd to Better Business Bureau - Permian Basin. When evaluators came in April 2009 to inspect my roof, i had obtained two prior estimates. I was initially impressed with Raintree's thorough inspection and recommendations re the re-roofing i would need. Raintree did not send me a written estimate following the evaluation. In May, my wife and i met with Mr. Grimes (principal) to inspect the work one of his crews was performing and to finalize an agreement for re-roofing services. He asked to review the Adjuster Summary mailed to me by my insurance company (Allstate) and, based on this document, said that he would be able to "come in around $16,000". Telephoned him later to ask he perform the work on June 23, as i would be out of town and wanted my wife to be present when workers were onsite. Rec'd a call from my son on June 18, stating that a hole in the bedroom ceiling was caused by roofing workers who began work that day. Called Mr. Grimes to ask if he recalled my telling him that the start date was June 23; he stated that "since the [roofing materials] had been delivered June 17, I assumed you were back in town." When I told him about the damaged bedroom ceiling, he had his crew perform a VERY shoddy taping and paint job. There was also damage to two pieces of furniture and to the north wall of the bedroom, adjacent to the hole in the ceiling. Also noticed upon my return that there were roofing nails sticking through the eaves of the roof, as well as a damaged vent stack. The roofing company tried only ONCE to meet with me to resolve this problem - crew was sent back to clip the protruding nails (did shoddy work) and a painting contractor (Joe Vasquez) was sent to my home August 17 to repair the ceiling damage. While he promised to return Aug 18 at 9:00 AM, VASQUEZ never showed up nor did he return my call/text message. Raintree never bothered to contact anyone else, nor did Mr. Grimes contact me to follow up on these repairs. When I rec'd the final bill ("all work has been completed," read the invoice), there was a small discount for the ceiling/nails/painting repairs NOT done. I had gotten an estimate from a local building contractor in excess of this discount; this roofing job resulted in a damaged, poorly-patched ceiling, nails though the roof eaves and damaged vent stack for THE AMOUNT PAID BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY including my $1000 deductible. Let me add that the agent from Allstate from extremely unhelpful as well: "We hate hailstorms and problems which arise between roofing contractors and homeowners. Get legal advice." Bottom line: I would never recommend this roofing company to anyone.
Response from Raintree Roofing Inc

"only complaint in 20 years of roofing - when you take off wood shingle over 1 x 2 decking with poor quality - a roofer will break through bad material and damage the ceiling - the ceiling was repaired but customer was not happy and additional $700 was discounted for the customer to have his ceiling re-worked - the insurance was discounted by $700 to help on his deductible but he had a coupon and wanted additional $300 - this company did 7 million in 1909 due to a storm and this was my only problem - he is off the wall and I roofed the house next door who said he had problems also. It took a certified letter to collect a substantial discounted roofing job. My company is A_PLUS with BBB and and maintained this rating for every year in business."
