Custom Home Services

We hired James Waker, owner of Custom Home Services, around July 4, 2013. We were only looking to replace the flooring and redo the three bathrooms in our home. Mr. Walker offered to remodel the entire home AND build a new fence for $28,000. We had spoken to several other contractors and were overwhelmed by their lack of initiative and high price. Mr. Walker seemed like a dream come true. 

That dream soon became a nightmare. He asked us to pay half the cost up front to cover materials. Not knowing any better, we did. He did not begin work for several weeks giving various personal (and deeply inappropriate) excuses for why he couldn't work. 

When he did come to work, he constantly complained about how tough his job was, how things "sucked" and were "a b**ch" to complete. He talked about his s** life and later we found out he was a two-time felon and a high-risk s** offender. 

Work was completed at a snail's pace and what little was completed was of greatly inferior quality. When he bought materials contrary to what we had chosen, he would always have an excuse for buying what he wanted. This included windows which he had promised would be of high quality. He told us he had ordered these windows when in fact a) he had only inquired about the windows and b) he had requested the cheapest possible option. 

He disappeared when we asked him to provide receipts for materials purchased. We have since requested a bulk of our money back and plan to pursue civil and criminal charges if he chooses not to refund our money. 

We have hired another contractor and spent several thousand dollars to repair the shoddy work performed by Mr. Walker.

Mr. Walker also claims to be a member of the Better Business Beaureu. This is NOT true.
