The quality of the work seemed to be good. The problem with this job was punctuality and price. The plumber was supposed to show up in the morning to do the job. He barely made it in the morning, showing up at 11:25 AM. After 10 minutes of work, he left for more than an hour for lunch. The job was finished within 50 minutes of his return. This behavior was unprofessional. Granted, timing is hard to pin down for plumbers, but once someone shows up you should have them for more than 10 minutes of work. It was explained that the jackhammer was rented and needed to be returned by noon. For what I paid, avoiding a few extra dollars for a jackhammer should not have been the focus. Adding insult to injury, the job was originally billed at $750 as a bid job through a third party (MidTex) when I understood the cost to be an estimate. Much to my surprise, the bill was $750 for an hour of work. Through some haggling, the plumber agreed to reduce the bill to $500 since it it was an unexpectedly easy job. Allowing for supplies, the plumber took in approximately $450 for an hour of labor. This is well above any reasonable hourly rate. In fairness, he indicated that the job would have been only $750 if the job took 8 hours. If you use this plumber, know ahead of time with certainty whether you are receiving a fixed price bid or an estimate with final price dependent on the actual work required. Don't expect punctuality or any concern for your time.
