When Mr. Harris called, as if I and others had not been witnesses to his very unprofessional and abusive behavior at my neighbor?s home, I told him that hiring him was out of the question. As with my neighbor, he cursed me and threatened to sue, claiming the form was a contract and that we were obligated to do business with him. We reiterated we would not hire him and he again threatened suit. This type of behavior is well documented in State of Texas vs. Holden Roofing Inc. (google it ) which was a lawsuit initiated by Attorney General of Texas in 2011 on behalf of homeowners. Holden Roofing had to reimburse all homeowners who had paid liquidated damages (where they decided not to use the company for their roofing work and were illegally threatened with a lawsuit) and they were also fined $25,000 for their unlawful behavior and $10,000 in attorneys' fees. The supposed "contract", the form which homeowners were told would allow the roofing company to meet with the adjuster, was declared invalid and unenforceable. Golden Shingle has initiated a claim against us under the same ruse as Holden Roofing used with its customers. We will defend against the claim using State of TX vs. Holden Roofing as other similar suits as precedent. We have also filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office. If you have had a similar experience with an abusive service company, you can call the Attorney General (800) 252-8011 or file a complaint online at www.texasattorneygeneral.gov.. The bottom line is that we were perfectly willing to use Golden Shingle until we witnessed Mr. Harris's initially uncommunicative, then confrontational and threatening behavior with our next door neighbor. Golden Shingle did not complete the work in the time frame promised, would not communicate with the disgruntled homeowner until their money was cut off, and then the owner cursed and threatened the homeowner. If you need a roof on your home, there are plenty of good companies. Golden Shingle, in my opinion is not one of them. If anything, they are the antithesis of a reputable service company. The sign of a good company is one that communicates with their customers and tries to resolve any problems that may arise in a timely and amicable manner. Mr. Harris of Golden Shingle instead curses and threatens his customers and potential customers. I can?t imagine anyone who would willingly hire such a company. I offer a couple of suggestions for David Harris and his brother Roke Harris of Golden Shingle. Instead of wasting $31 to go to small claims court with an invalid contract, instead spend a little less than that at amazon.com and buy "Customer Service for Dummies" and Anger Management for Dummies." I think both would be a good investment to improve the image and future possibility of success for your young company. And you might learn to calm down and live a better life.
Description of Work: The address above is incorrect. Golden Shingle Roofing's correct address is 3141 I-30, Suite A, Mesquite, TX 75150. Golden Shingle put a roof on my next door neighbor's home and was supposed to replace the gutters as well. The roof was completed in the time frame promised, but trash, old gutters, and nails were left covering the yard and the new gutters had not been installed after several weeks of waiting. When my neighbor tried to contact David Harris, purported owner of Golden Shingle, his calls were not returned. When my neighbor sent a certified letter to Golden Shingle to cancel his contract with them due to non-performance, the letter was refused. Mr. Harris did not bother to call my neighbor about the undone work until my neighbor called his insurance company and cut off any future payment. When Harris finally called he was outraged and cursed and threatened my neighbor. Later he showed up at my neighbor's home to get his final check. I was present to witness Mr. Harris's threatening and abusive behavior which my neighbor wanted me to see firsthand. When my neighbor first hired Golden Shingle, they offered to inspect my roof as well. Finding damage, they asked that a form be signed so they could be present when the adjuster came to inspect our roof. A representative of Golden Shingle showed up and was asked to stay on the ground by the adjuster so he could do his work without interference. The claim was approved by the adjuster with no intervention from Golden Shingle. At that point, we had planned to use Golden Shingle for our new roof. Due to my neighbor's bad experience with them, and Mr. Harris' over the top anger, cursing, and threatening demeanor after the remainder of the job was cancelled, we made the decision that using Golden Shingle would be a very imprudent choice.
