I hired B.V. Handyman Services to install a whole-house fan. The handyman, Baber, cut a hole in my ceiling without either first measuring the fan or going up into my attic to locate the best place for it. The hole was too small and he ended up needing to cut a larger one. In addition, he cut a notch into a major support beam for the roof. Had he looked into the attic before beginning the work, the support beam would have never been cut. During installation of the fan, he bent the louvered face and so it doesn’t completely cover the hole he cut. Instead of using the white screws that came with the fan that would match the visible louvered face, he used his own silver screws and the mismatch is jarring and ugly. When installing the fan switch, he made a cut in my wall that is larger than the switch plate. Additionally, the plate doesn’t sit flush with the wall but instead sticks out from the wall far enough that you can see behind it. And, again, he didn’t use the matching screws that were provided with the switch plate install kit. I had requested that the fan switches be installed on the entry (west) side of a hallway wall but he cut a hole for the switch on the bedroom (east) side of that wall, next to an existing rocker light switch. When I saw the hole I asked him to at least install a 3-gang light switch box but he said that taking out the existing single-switch box “would be too much trouble” so he just crammed the wiring for the fan switch into the cavity of the wall. I’m not sure if this is a fire hazard or not. In the middle of the installation, Baber left and came back with a helper. The two of them left a huge sawdust mess for me to clean up. A job that was quoted to be two hours ended up taking almost ELEVEN hours. I have tried, repeatedly, to contact management or the owners at B.V. Handyman Services but no one will return my calls. I will have to hire another company to come fix the mess that Baber left me with and it could cost me more than what B.V. charged for the entire fan installation ($360). Save yourself the money, time, headache, and damage to your property. Do NOT, under any circumstances, hire this company. They’ll be seeing me in Small Claims Court.
