George is good to work with and compared to many contractors I found that he is far better. He is not always very timely but he is accommodating with modifications. I had to remind him of couple details which he forgot so I requested him to post the job plan and architecture/diagram for his future jobs at the job site! Also, I had requested "A" grade cedar but the slats (that sit on the top most part of the pergola) he used were pretty rustic and rough which I did not argue much about as I was already running late to have this completed before my wife's birthday! George even put up our swing which we had not requested as part of the contract!
Rest, his crew was good and respectable but showed up without notice in my backyard (no bell ringing/knocking the door)! I had to request clean up as they did not seem passionate about cleanup...

It's beautiful. But they didn't originally pour any concrete to support the poles that hold the cover up. Had to have them come back and they poured 24 inches of concrete. Thought they should pour 36 inches as that's the norm to the frost line. Guess the frost line in North Texas is only 24 inches. But that should have been done with the original construction and not sure why it wasn't.

George Hargrove has had experience both with building homes and now decks. It shows in the very professional way he prepared his estimate and the way the job was completed by him and his crew. He was easy to work with and did a fine job of cleaning up when they were done. Would use him again, and recommend him to others.

We had just had a pavestone patio installed by Precision Pavers and, on their recommendation, contacted George, of Decks over Texas, to get a quote for having the patio cover done. We had a family wedding planned in just over three weeks and it was very important to us to have the job completed by the wedding. Therefore, when I first made contact with George, I explained that I understood that the 3 week window was very tight and wanted to know if they could complete the job within this time frame. He indicated that, though they were wrapping up a job at the time, he could get our cover installed within our three week window, and we decided to pursue a quote for the work.
George came out the next day and quoted us three different options (a vaulted roof, a vaulted roof with small gable, and a full gable roof). His estimate included a detailed list of materials and sketches of side and rear elevations for all three options. My wife and I selected the option we wanted and informed George the next day that we were ready to proceed and that he could pick up the 50% down payment to purchase the materials.
Well, a week passed and we did not hear from George. By this time we decided to scale back our original selection of a 20'x16' roof to a 12'x16'. I sent notice of this via e-mail and left a voice message. George responded the next day saying that this would not be a problem and came by the next day and picked up the 50% deposit. At this point, we were two weeks out from the planned start of the job.
Well, a week and a half passed with no contact from George and I was beginning to get a little nervous, so I called him up on the weekend before they were to start work (6 days before the wedding). It was at this point that he informed me there was no way they would be able to get the patio cover completed before the wedding. Say What???? As you can imagine, we were extremely disappointed, not just because they could not complete the project on time, but mostly because he had not informed us of his slip in schedule. It took a phone call from me just two days before the scheduled start to find out it was not going to happen!
George did offer to refund our down payment but, with the wedding just days away, we were certainly not going to be able to find someone else to do the job.
After a cooling off period, I informed George that we still wanted DOT to complete the job. He said that they would be able to start the job on 7/30 (two weeks after the original start date). They actually started the job on 8/8 but, as we were out of town, we did not mind this latest slip. They completed 95% of the work in two days. It took another couple of trips and another three weeks tom complete the job.
In summary, we are very pleased with the finished project.
Pros:
- The workmanship on the roof/shingles is very good and the cedar gable and rafters look fantastic.
- The price was very reasonable
Cons:
- They did not meet their original schedule. It seems to me that they just kind of "worked us in" around their other scheduled jobs.
- Communication was spotty - e-mail to their business (Decks over Texas) bounced. I ended up using George's personal e-mail address. Some phone messages were not returned.
Bottom line - I think the quality of their work is very good and, if time is not of the essence, I would recommend them to others.

Decks Over Texas is a very professional and honest company. George explained everything and gave us several options to fit in our budget. They used the best quality materials and our fence is beautiful! We get compliments on it all the time. We will be adding an arbor and deck later this year and will definitely be using this company again!

The owner of Decks Over Texas, George, came out and gave us a quote on the spot. We thought it was reasonable and accepted it on the spot. We paid half down. We had previously read about DOT's high rating on Angie's List and that gave us a comfort level high enough to get started in this way.
DOT handled all the paperwork with the city and the HOA. About a week before they were to get started, George broke his arm. While this slowed him down it most certainly did not stop him. He was out there, instructing his guys on exactly what to do. I'm know that he is normally right in the middle of all the work.
The guys all did a fantastic job. While our yard was full building materials and equipment, nothing was ever accidentally broken nor any of our plants damaged. The even moved stuff periodically to make sure the grass got sunlight. We were so impressed that we gave each of the workers a $100 tip. We paid the balance after the city did their inspection (which passed with flying colors).
We absolutely love our patio cover. We don't know how they could have done a better job.

George was great to work with. From beginning to end, he was exceptional and always flexible to work with. The only hiccup was some minor communication issues via email, but if it was an urgent matter, I could've always picked up a phone and called which he always answered or returned my calls promptly. After our initial meeting, we discussed our plans for the structure's design. His team showed up a few days later to teardown the unsafe structure and cleaned up the site. Construction soon began and was completed promptly. I highly recommend George and Decks over Texas to anyone needing patio work.

They did a great job with our installation and I was very pleased. They were professional and on time, always cleaned up well and kept a clean job site. The deck looks great now and I couldn't be happier. I would recommend them in the future to anyone as an outstanding serviced.

Very badly. George, the owner, came promptly and gave estimate and adequately described options for wood. They started when they said they would start and finished a week after they were supposed to. However, timing wasn't the problem - communication, oversight and quality were. George seemed to never be on scene unless I called him and told him there was a problem. The deck didn't meet the pool cool-crete as it was supposed to - there was an obvious 1-2 inch drop down to the deck which would have been very dangerous. The bench was built to the wrong specifications. Several of the board ends were not attached to the underlying frame and popped up within a few days. The staining is terrible - large dark patches where it looks like stain was spilled and part of the deck appears to have been covered and given few coats so there is a clear demarcation line. George didn't return calls - still hasn't although I called a week ago to ask him to come see what his crew did with the stain.
