Would I use this company again and recommend them for windows? Absolutely
Would I use this company again and recommend them for doors? No.
The process for choosing my Milgard windows couldn't have gone better. Don walked me through my options and tackled the weirdness of my very narrow window coupled with prior foundation issues and shifting ground. Milgard gave the best warranty and options for my home, so that was hands down an easy choice.
At the time of the window purchase, Certified was running a special of a free Masonite fiberglass entry door. I was in the market for a new door and knew I wanted fiberglass. So again, easy choice. Out came the catalog, and the choice was made. Don told me Certified would handle everything with the door. I asked specifically about the staining, and he repeated Certified would take care of it all. Since I knew I wanted something specific for the hardware, I said I would buy that and have it here before the door went in. I would also buy an Andersen storm door at the local big box store, and it would be installed at no charge.
So we were good to go. The windows would be installed and then the door.
Window installation day comes. Kevin and his crew were fast, thorough, conscientious and neat. Things came to a halt, when some true weirdness cropped up. Many of my windows didn't have screens, and three came without locks. Kevin was all over this and by late afternoon, I had the three missing locks, and the window screens were ordered. Kevin promised to babysit the problem and get the screens here and installed.
He did just that, and two weeks later, all my windows had screens.
The window portion was a breeze, and I would absolutely recommend Certified if you're thinking of replacing windows.
The front door was a real problem.
First was the stain. Kevin thought I would take care of it. I was under the impression for the discussion with Don that Certified would do it. (After all, when someone says "We'll take care of it all." I take that to mean "all" not everything but the stain.) My husband heard the same thing I did, so we're 2 on one side and 1 on the other. Sadly, Don didn't write down much about the free door, but my position was that I hadn't paid for the door, and if I didn't get the door stained, I simply would look elsewhere for one. Fortunately we were able to resolve the problem, and the door was stained very soon after installation. The job was done very well, and all that was left was to install a piece at the bottom of the Andersen storm door. (This piece - a sweep extension - is something Andersen doesn't tell you about; I was expecting it since Kevin had, but it was still irritating dealing with Andersen and trying to get them on the same page with Keven and me.)
It was then that we noticed the storm door would not open completely. I contacted Kevin about that, and since he would be coming over to put the sweep on the door, he would look at it then. Once he was here, it looked as if the problem was with the manufacture of the door, so back to Andersen I went. Back and forth on it, and the decision was made to buy a longer storm door closer.
A few days later, my front door won't lock. Being right before Christmas, that door HAD to open and close and lock.
To Kevin's credit, he came right over. After making some adjustments, the door opened, closed, locked and unlocked.
Several days later the same thing happened.
I emailed Kevin that the same problem had happened.
No response.
At that point, I was just fed up. The storm door problem wasn't resolved by buying a longer closer, but by talking to a salesman at Home Depot. Taking photos of a door in store and then going home and comparing it, it was obvious the closer was installed upside down. This wasn't something we'd catch, but someone who has installed a hundred or so of those doors should.
More irritating was the entry door.
Since we were having a whole house remodel done, I asked my contractor to look at the door.
There were not enough screws in the frame to hold it, and it was separating which allowed the door to go off square. There were also not sufficient shims to hold the door in place (including at the threshold). But the blatant problem was deadbolt hole. It looked as though a beaver had been at it. Multiple screw holes and splintered wood.
So off my new front door comes. The chewed up section was removed and a new one installed, the door was reshimed and an extra screw included on the side to keep it in place.
Surprise. Surprise. The door now works like a front door should.
My free door only cost me $300, but the frustration was priceless.
So this is the reason for two different ratings. The windows are terrific. Several months later, they're everything I hoped, and I look forward to years of good looking, good fitting windows.
The door I would have done totally differently. Total pain, and costly to fix.
Summary:
From the estimate to the final walk through Certified Windows was professional at the highest level. Kevin takes great pride in performing quality workmanship and ensures that it gets done to his standards. Realistically you can expect some minor damage to interior drywall when the old windows are removed. You can be assured that Kevin will have it repaired perfectly. His painter took a chip of dry all to the local Sherwin-Williams and matched the paint. Texturing and paint turned out great.
There was some challenges with the installation of the patio doors. The worker could not get them to close just right, but Kevin came out and worked a half day to make sure they were correctly installed and close properly.
We did a very detailed walk through on ALL 30 windows and doors.
The team always arrived by 8am each day and Kevin was very responsive to all questions and calls.
The following is an email I sent to them:
Kevin & Don:
I just wanted to take the time to again tell you how pleased I am that I found your company to install my replacement windows. When I started to research for replacement windows I never thought it could get so involved. I?m the type of person that really digs into the quality of the product and I learned a lot about energy efficient windows.
As I worked my way through all the data and information about windows and frames it became very apparent that the company doing the installation has a tremendous impact on the performance of the window. After having a very negative experience with another contractor doing other remodeling for me I was very skeptical going into this window replacement project.
Thank goodness I found your company. From the beginning sales call and estimate (with Don) through installation of 30 windows (under Kevin?s expertise) this has been a great experience. Your attention to detail and quality workmanship is outstanding. You clearly answered all of my questions. Your company was honest, timely every day and provided quality work. I?m very happy with the windows quality and appearance.
Thanks again and I can confidently recommend Certifies Windows and Doors.
Don and Kevin use a third-party paint company to complete the installation.
The results were amazing and we now feel like were're living in a new house. Local traffic noise was cut in half and I have already noticed how the rooms are now cooler - even with the hot afternoon sun. Actual installation and painting took less than a week and we are already putting our original blinds back up. We purposely only did a section of the house and now that we see and feel the results, will be completing the remaining portions with Certified as well. Very easy company to do business with as they are family run and listened (and acted) on any concern I had during the process. I am completely satisfied and I haven't said that about a remodeling company in a long time. Thank you Don and Kevin !

I had a quote from Renewal by Anderson with their patented Fibrex material. It was a good looking window, but after a three hour presentation, I found out that the project was going to cost as much as a nice new car. I decided against that.
Don Norris came out to do the presentation for Certified Window and Door. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. I had researched Milgard windows on the internet, and they had a good reputation. The windows looked good, and the warranties were great. Milgard offers a lifetime warranty on the windows and Certified Window and Door offers a two year warranty on installation.
We set up the installation, and they did a great job. It took them a full week to get in 21 windows with all the molding and everything. All the work is very good quality, though. Throughout the whole process, Kevin was great about updating me on the process and letting me know what to expect the next day. He even texted me a picture of our finished door.
After the job was done, Don and I went through a walk-through of the project. He wanted to make sure everything was to our liking. There were a few paint touch-ups and a screen that needed to be replaced, and Don took care of it right away.
The house looks fantastic, and we are finally able to open our windows after years of not being able to.
I was very pleased with the work they did. I would recommend them to any one looking to replace their windows.
