They have an area that children can look at the animals. They offer several different types of food. The facility is nice. The staff is pretty good. I like them.

It was horrible. My dog was healthy when she went in, and had to be euthanized 16 days after her discharge from his care.
Since his malpractice carrier has made me an offer to settle with a gag agreement attached, I think that shows how much he hopes this information does not come out.
Dr. Hickman has never apologized to me or said he was sorry. He simply had his malpractice carrier call me and make me an offer.
I would not recommend Dr. Hickman to any one.

My dog Z**** was healthy when quarantined/boarded here for seven days. When I picked her up, she was covered in diarrhea and urine, had a runny nose, blood dripping from her rectum, she had a cough and significant weight loss and was severely dehydrated. Hickman personally discharged Z**** to the Animal Control Officer and me. Mike McLain, the Animal Control Officer asked Hickman if Z**** was sick. Hickman rplied "no, she's fine, its just stress." Upon examination by my regular vet, Z**** was diagnosed with pneumonia, diarrhea, 5% dehydration, cough and "very sick" and had lost approximately 20 pounds, according to my vet's exam records. I spent over $1000 trying to save my dog. She was euthanized 15 days after being discharged. Because she was discharged sick from rabies quarantine, her head had to be cut off and sent to Texas State Health Labs for rabies testing. Even though I had signed the Consent for Treatment form which included my phone number and gave them authorization to treat my dog and I agreed to pay any charges, no one ever called to let me know Z**** was sick nor did Hickman ever examine her or treat her. I have sent Hickman both First Class and Certified Mail letters, asking him to refund his quarantine/boarding charges, to pay my vet bills after discharge and the cost of sending her head to Austin. Hickman has not contacted me.

When I picked up Z**** after seven days, she was covered in both dried on and fresh runny diarrhea and urine, had pneumonia, her rectum was bleeding, her nose was runny, she was coughing and severely dehydrated and had lost significant weight. Randall Hickman personally discharged her to the Aminal Control Officer and me. The Animal Control Officer asked Hickman if Z**** was sick. Hickman told us, "she is not sick, it is just stress." I took Z**** to my regular vet where my dog was diagnosed with pneumonia, 5% dehydration, cough, diarrhea and approx. 20+ pound weight loss, a 105 temperature and very sick. After spending over $1000 trying to save my dog, she was euthanized 15 days after being discharged from Animal Medical Center of McKinney, TX. Because she was discharged sick from rabies quarantine, after euthanisia, her head was cut off and sent to Texas Health Services for rabies testing. Thankfully, Z**** did not have rabies as she was current on her vaccinations. Having her head cut off was just too ghastly and shocking. Dr. Hickman did not keep any records on my dog; he did not do an intake or discharge exam nor did he examine her during her quarantine. Every day when I called his clinic to check on my dog, I was told "she's fine". Even though I signed an Authorization for Treatment form giving Hickman authorization to treat my dog while there and agreeing to pay the fees, he did not examine or treat my dog. This form also included my phone number although he never called to say Z**** was sick. Dr. Hickman and his staff also refused to let me see my dog while in quarantine. I feel all of this could have been avoided had Dr. Hickman examined my dog, called me to say she was sick and had he treated her. I have sent both First Class mail and Certified Mail to Randall Hickman, asking him to refund his quarantine charge, my vet bills trying to save Z****, her cremation, head removal and shipment fees. He has not responded.

Dr. Hickman has been providing routine care for my 5-yo Jack Russell Terrier since she was a puppy. He is always caring, professional and pleasant. His staff works well with my anxious dog. I originally found him as a vet because he treated birds. When I later got a puppy, it was a "no-brainer" to choose him as a vet.

I was totally satisfied with my experience. I really like him as a veterinarian and as a person. They are obviously animal lovers because they take care of all kind of animals. I think their price is reasonable.
