From the moment they walk in the door, you just get that sense of professionalism and experience that I was looking for. This carried on through the planning stages of the project and subsequent phone calls, emails and project revisions. Needless to say, they were spot on in their original estimate about the work that needed to be addressed. The only few changes to the original estimate were add-ons that I decided to put in the budget.
Mr. Johnson and his company realize how important the planning phase of a project can be. This goes a long way in reducing overall material and labor costs. Their craftsmanship and attention to detail are a high as they can be. I would definitely recommend their work.
I was very impressed with the work this company did on my home. I now have an amazing kitchen.the craftsmanship on my kitchen cabinets is impressive. likewise, my three bathrooms are totally updated and look like something from a resort hotel. they took down a wall and opened up my whole house. the new space looks seamless as though it was original to the house they made a 9 foot counter height bar that I requested. they repaired some water damage and updated all the electrical wiring in the house. they painted the house inside and out side
Besides the excellent work this company does, is the fact this company is professional, responsible and totally honest. Julio Johnson Sr. has close to 30 years experience in construction. Julio johnson jr. takes care of all the accounting and tracks all the costs of materials and labor. Jose is their manager and is also very professional. One of these individuals will always be at the job site to supervise the work and answer any questions. they give you peace of mind in the whole remodeling process.
Julio Johnson Jr. will gave you credit for materials and labor that are not used. I chose the paint and tile and saved a lot of money. Julio Jr. also gave me credit for things I did not know about, that is honesty. this company will do all my future work and repairs on my house, I consider them trusted friends.
There were other problems along the way like the vanity was missing parts, but Mr. Johnson was able to creatively resolve the issues and at the end of the five days the bathroom was done and is stunning!
Mr. Johnson's crew was professional and courteous at all times and were very skilled at their jobs. They did a good job of cleaning up after each day. We are very satisfied with the work and price and would highly recommend Mr. Johnson.
I contacted 8 top reviewed contractors on this site, requested bids and interviewed them before choosing to go with Mr. Johnson. We chose this contractor for several reasons.
1) It was immediately clear he had much more experience actually DOING the work with this kind of project and with working in an older home than any other contractor we spoke to. Every other contractor had told me to expect this project to take from 1-3 months (during which time we would be living in hotel with small children!!) Mr. Johnson very clearly explained exactly why the labor for this project would be from 5-8 days, what variables we may face when opening up the floor, weather, late supplies, etc. He actually took less time than that, even with a delay for weather.
2) Mr. Johnson was respectful of my plans for the project and while he offered many good suggestions, I never felt pressured or bullied, unlike other contractors who were already trying to upsell before even giving me a quote.
3) Small group of workers that have been working together for a while and know each other. Owner/contractor hands-on during the project. Much better than a contractor who has little or no hands-on experience, distantly overseeing groups of subcontractors they don't know personally, having some very large company with subcontractors they don't know coming in and out, and the less middlemen the better in my opinion.
We had to wait a few weeks to get the project started as they were already working on another project, but every contractor had a wait-list at that time, so it was not something unusual or problematic. The work was completed in less than 7 days, and with one final visit to fine tune the details a few days later.
As it turns out we made a great decision- I am very happy with the work done in my bathroom. I especially like the care and details in the installation of the tile in the shower, and I am pretty much happy whenever I open the door and walk in and see it.
The quote, billing and contract were handled in a very open, understandable and direct way, which I also appreciated. It seemed like other contractors were purposefully trying to intimidate and confuse me with their quotes, so this is a big positive.
We will definitely use this company in the future, and I would recommend them wholeheartedly.
Master Bath
Removed my non-working jacuzzi and replaced it with a walk-in glass shower with nickel faucets.
Removed the tile floor and replaced it with the new waterproof Laminate (lifetime manufacture warranty) that he recommended.
Installed new toilet, vanity and granite counter top.
Kitchen
My kitchen had been long overdue for an upgrade.
Removed the old yellow laminate from the countertops and replaced with granite.
Removed wall and made the extra space into a small open bar.
Installed new light fixtures.
Kitchen cabinets remained. To cut costs, Julio recommended replacing only the doors while sanding and re-varnishing the current wood.
Replaced and installed new appliances.
We had been out for the night visiting a relative and returned the next day to a broken sliding patio door. Someone had kicked/pushed the glass off its frame to enter the home.
By pushing in the glass on the sliding door, it avoided tripping the alarm door sensor. Fortunately, however, the trespasser managed to trip the motion sensor forcing him/her to leave empty handed.
At this point, we had two choices.
One, we could place the glass back on the door frame with silicon and risk a repeat of the incident.
Two, we could replace the door with a French door so that door entry sensor couldn't be easily bypassed.
We chose the second option.
The next day, we were in the market for a contractor to handle the work. I called about five companies and the lowest quote we received was about $1,200.00 for materials, the removal of the old door and installation of the new one.
Through our business of renting homes, we heard about one of our tenant's relative, Julio Johnson, and decided to give him a call.
Mr. Johnson is a licensed general contractor and has 32 years of construction experience.
He arrived 15 minutes early!!! on a Sunday morning!!! to quote the installation of the new patio door.
He sat us down and explained the amount of work that had to be done.
Apparently, the doors that were used in 1977 (when this home was built) heights didn't match up with the heights of the new French doors available at Lowes and Home Depot. The difference was a 2" height, and he explained that he would have to adjust the door frame to allow the new sized door. I have to admit, as he was talking, it started to make sense why other companies were charging well over a thousand to do the job.
Well, long story shot, he quoted us $550.00 for the supplies and installation.
Mr. Johnson did an amazing job.
The new door looks like it was built with the home. The finish on the wood work, paint and the overall installation make it obvious that he has a passion for this kind of work.
