We had 4 contractors bid for the bath remodel.  The one from the TV ad wanted $26,000.  Of course his work & products would be the highest quality all around, but when the whole house cost 110k and is 35 years old, a 26k guest bath is rather silly.
Johnny is a good old country boy who immediately impresses you with his enthusiasm and friendly "aw shucks" manner.  And when you ask him if he can do specific, non-conventional improvements & modifications to the remodeling, he always replies, "Oh sure, we can do that."  These mannerisms or so positive and confident that you start to wonder if he might be just a big sales pitch.
Well, "Oh sure" he could...and did do that.  He gave us an itemized cost estimate, which didn't include all the freebie work he threw in & did not charge us for.
The bathroom is absolutely stunning & a pure pleasure to shower in.  My wife & I do love it!  Now when we have dinner parties, we know our guests will have a perfectly charming place to freshen up.
Some thoughts:
A contractor is only as good as his lead man and his crew.  Johnny's were excellent.  However, to keep a good crew, the contractor has to keep them in work.  This means that often the contractor will have to be away giving estimates and marketing his services.  This is where I gave him a "B" in Responsiveness.  Remodeling is a pure stress on the owners, and our stress would've been abated somewhat if his presence to make decisions & answer immediate questions were more constant.  In his favor, even when he was out of town on vacation, he did return our calls in a timely manner.  If errors were made by his crew, they were immediately corrected.  If he made a mistake in his estimate that cost extra money or time, he absorbed it.  Way more than fair.
If you decide to get a new shower with glass encasing, do take his advice & get the more costly upgraded glass.  I've walked into too many baths with showers & discovered an ugly squeegee nearby.  It's fantastic walking into your bath the morning after you shower & finding the glass is as spotless as when it was installed.
Be prepared to spend as much time as necessary at Home Depot or Lowes (or wherever) to make sure you have selected all the products (fixtures, tile, vanity, lighting, ect.).  What you need is a cell phone camera which can take a picture of the item, the product# and the aisle & shelf it's on.  This allows Johnny to make all the purchases at once, and ensures construction will not be delayed until some vital product is available for installation.
If you decide to obtain his services, you best do it quickly.  He was recommended to us by a neighbor, and we had to wait 3 months to get him.  I will be using him to remodel my kitchen in the near future.
Once again, my bathroom is beautiful, and Johnny and his crew did a fantastic job at great price

It went fine at first, but now the grout is falling out.  He refuses to come back and look at it.  I can't believe he won't help me when I paid him over $2000.00.
