Tri-County were very responsive in resolving questions and concerns all along the way. We felt that Sam, Wayne, and Bob Jones, the owner, took a real interest in our project. The other Tri-County personnel who primarily worked on our project were also excellent - Alex and Bruce. We started off with a delay in getting the foundation, cement work accomplished largely due to rainy weather in the fall that delayed progress for weeks, but once that hurtle was crossed, work progressed steadily and Tri-County worked with sub-contractors to keep the schedule moving. We are delighted with the outcome! We have a beautiful kitchen, laundry and garage area. Tri-County suggested a cabinet maker - Daylon McMcCreless who did a great job. Every final detail was completed before they called the job “finished”.
Description of Work: We added a garage that encompassed a former carport on the end of our home plus some additional area. We also had a total redo of our kitchen, expansion of the laundry room and electrical updating and lighting. The garage required a new foundation on the side and new roof line, in order to add the space desired.

We are thrilled that you are happy with the finished results of your project and hope that it will bring you years of satisfaction. We do also appreciate your patience since 2018 brought on much more rain during the fall and winter months than was anticipated. Thank you for taking the time to share your kind words.
Wonderful. We were very pleased with the quality of professionalism, quality of construction and quality of project management. Please have Jody or Bob reach me as I will be happy to speak with anyone considering Tri-County Construction. The project came in "on time" and "on budget". The crews and the subs were very good!! They followed my detailed design and installation instructions beautifully. Very happy with glamorous new bathroom! The charges for "change orders", initiated by me after the contract had been signed, were reasonable and I knew I was spending more money when I made the changes.
Description of Work: Very pleased with Tri-County!! We would definitely use them again. After doing extensive reference checks, my husband and I hired Tri-County Construction to gut out and totally remodel the master bathroom in our 20 year old house. (We have done a handful of large construction projects in previous homes.) We selected Tri -County because of the owners extensive construction experience plus a reasonable contract stating scope of services, the planned daily project management and project cost were satisfactory to us....plus results of those all important personal reference calls I made. The shower, tub, walls, flooring, vanity etc. were removed. I am an interior designer. I selected all new building materials and drew all the floor plans and tile designs. I wanted the bathroom done to my standards and they met or exceeded my standards of project management and quality construction every day!

Thank you for sharing your experience [Member Name Removed]. We enjoyed getting to know you and [Member Name Removed] and are very glad that the project was completed on time and to your liking. Enjoy your newly remodeled bathroom.
The team at Tri-County treated me, my home and my ideas with respect and care. Jody always attentive and took care of any of my concerns promptly and efficiently. Wayne made me feel like we could make anything work and I felt confident knowing he was in charge of the final product. Bruce explained everything to me and had great ideas as well as doing phenomenal work. Alex was super patient and did beautiful work as well and Sam helped me shoot ideas around to make things work within my budget.
Description of Work: I inherited my 1971 home which was sadly, severely neglected until I took over the property. The house holds childhood memories of my parents and sisters so it sentimental to say the least. They gave the house a face-lift I had imagined for decades but was never able to do myself. I can't explain how happy I am to have my family home looking so fresh, clean and new. New paint, trim, doors, wood floors, bathroom and kitchen! Highly recommend them and will use them again if the need arises. Maybe an addition in the future? ;)

[Member Name Removed] - We are very sorry that we were not ever able to connect with you to provide you with an estimate for the services desired. At the time of the initial visit, our salesman/estimator had car issues and therefore needed to cancel the original appointment. He was going to get back with you to reschedule another visit and didn't realize that you were expecting him on another day and time. When he did call to reschedule, you indicated that the work was taken care of so again he apologized for the miscommunication. Hope everything worked out to your satisfaction with the project needed.

Tri-County did 2 significant jobs for me, and I could not be more satisfied with the work. One job was finishing out attic space to living area, which involved framing, decking, electrical, drywall, and painting. The other job was to repair a large deck over a patio. Because the deck was originally constructed improperly, it had extensive water damage from years of leaking. There was rotting and damage on the supporting beam, column, joists, and decking. This large repair job involved replacing the beam and column, repairing the joists, replacing all the affected siding and molding, and repairing some masonry. After that stage was complete, a weatherproof membrane and new deck surface were installed along with metal hand railing. In addition, all repaired areas were painted. The work was done quickly and expertly, and the pricing was very reasonable. I heartily recommend Tri-County and intend to use them again for other jobs in the future.

We always felt like our project was a priority to Tri-County, from the owner and the office manager to the crews who did the work. The office manager always kept us informed of the schedule: crews and representatives showed up when scheduled, work was performed on time and on budget, and if anything was ever not quite right it was fixed right away. Tri-County's project manager and trim carpenters truly cared about the quality of the work, and they made numerous excellent suggestions that really made the project turn out great. We were especially grateful for their input! In short, the work done by Tri-County and their subcontractors was top-notch. We definitely plan to use them again in the near future.

I was initially thrilled. Jody is very pleasant and professional. Sam was prompt, pleasant and, it seemed, thorough. Because this was to be paid through a renovation loan, the project was to cost no more than $25,000 including a new stove and dishwasher, which, we explained, the contractor would need to purchase with loan funds. If there was enough left in the budget, we would like to have had carpet and tile replaced with 1,000 sf of wood flooring. The bid came in promptly, and since the wood flooring was $18k, we dropped that idea. But the $17,000 for the kitchen was something we could live with. I asked for the cabinet prices, and was told they were $5,800 installed, and the granite was a bit less than $3,000. That all seemed perfect, about $9,000 for materials, leaving $7,000 for the contractor's work, and $5,000 for appliances, came out to $22,000. Three grand under budget! We had a question about a notation that appliances were to be furnished by customer, so I emailed Jody to make sure everyone understood that the loan required they be purchased through the contractor...to make sure the money actually went for appliances, of course. The problems began when we sat down with Jody and Sam to sign the contract. In spite of the emails to make sure we all understood what needed to be included in the bid, appliances were not included, and the deal-killer was that the prices I had been given for cabinets and granite, according to Sam were his cost before markup, and were not even a part of the $17,000 bid. 68% of my total budget, was going to the contractor. I asked if that wasn't unusual, since the margin is usually UP TO 20%. Sam said he doesn't care, that's what the price is for him to do the job. I asked if we could start over and find a way that Tri County could do the bare-bones cabinets and counters for a more reasonable fee. He and Jody agreed to ask the boss, Bob, and get back to me. I have had no response, and frankly didn't expect one. So we continued looking and found the same flooring for half Tri-County's bid, and the cabinets and granite for less as well. With the appliances, we'll complete this project under budget! Contractors have to pay the overhead and make a profit. I'm all for free enterprise, but I felt that at best, my emails were not shared and understood, and at worst, I narrowly escaped being taken for a lot of money for a very small job. I hope it was just poor communication.
Description of Work: Sam estimated a remodel (cabinets, granite counters, sink and appliances) of an already-gutted kitchen, and possibly new wood floors.

Response from TRI COUNTY CONSTRUCTION
Unfortunately there was some confusion between both parties. After many conversations/emails between [member name removed], and Jody and Sam of Tri-County Construction, we were able to get a rough estimate together. Allowances were plugged in for kitchen granite tops, back splash, sink and faucet. Labor and materials as specified in our scope of work were also included and presented. Since no solid material selections had been made, it was difficult to know exactly what expenses were going to be until decisions were provided from [member name removed]. The confusion began when [member name removed] started trying to plug various #s into a spreadsheet to supply to his bank for the loan documents. Our bid was initially $17,576 but at the client's request this was changed and an appliance allowance of $5,000 was included making the new total $22,576. Flooring for the kitchen was listed as an additional add-on or "option" as was 1,000 square feet of flooring in other areas of the house. The type of flooring to be quoted was requested basically as "a dark wood that would be very hard and able to withstand large dogs" so we chose random Brazilian cherry engineered wood as we were told this is pretty hard and dark wood by our supplier. The [member name removed] obtained their own quote from another source but not of the same flooring. They were quoted bamboo at half the cost of the product we quoted. This was not a good comparison as the products are completely different. During the final meeting with [member name removed] in which we were to discuss the contract and it's scope, we were told that there were some layout changes including the cabinets which would also alter the counter tops and that he had already purchased some of the appliances. [member name removed] was deducting our kitchen flooring option which was listed as an ADD-ON from our total and scope and didn't seem to understand that this was listed as an option and was not a part of the original quote. He was also substituting his quote for ours and still trying to stay within his budget. We also tried to explain that his last minute changes would effect pricing and that we had included labor and materials based on the original layout provided. We had indicated that we could still be within his $25,000 budget with the kitchen floor option OR with the appliances, but not with both. [member name removed] was convinced at this point that the contractor's markup must be the problem but was basing this off the figures that he arrived at on his own for certain tasks. He assumed that Sam had included an outrageous overhead margin. It was difficult to get [member name removed] to understand the revised final #s with the new changes. To add in the before mentioned options yet deduct his proposed changes made the entire paperwork process null and void and we suggested going back to the drawing board. The meeting ended with [member name removed] needing to take his wife to an appointment in San Antonio and he was going to revisit some things as well as Sam revisit some things and then get back together. Sam was going to discuss the project with the owner of Tri-County and be ready with another option when both parties spoke again. A simple cabinet door style change could have saved 34% on the cost of cabinets, but this new quote was never presented to [member name removed] as he chose to become his own General Contractor. We wish the [member name removed] all the best with his kitchen remodel endeavors and apologize that we were not able to properly explain our scope and execute the #s needed. Rest assured though that we were only quoting items requested with very limited specifications provided.

They didn't do the work, but it took them five weeks to give me an estimate. They were four times more expensive than anybody else. I like everybody, everybody was fine, but it took every bit of the time I have been in Texas, but then they finish what they said they would have finish it should have only been two or three days and it was weeks. They kept coming backed out because they either forgot something or didn't think of something and had to come measure again and then he ended up bringing this guy by the last time who told me was his framer. It seems to be that he went out and found somebody that can do the work subcontract it and then he gave me an estimate back that whatever that guy said plus profit. I would never call them again.

[member name removed]- I apologize for the slow response to your construction needs. In response to your remarks, we would like to apologize for the length of time it took to respond to your project. We do use sub-contractors and we were in the middle of changing the framer that we normally use because of some quality issues we were having. This contributed to the delay in bidding your project. We bid to remove cedar siding and replace with Hardi siding and trim at left elevation, left and right elevation of 2nd story over garage, rear elevation on 1st and 2nd floor (approx 1,332 sf), as well as approx 125 sf of siding along entry walls, to install your front door and 2 rear doors, and underlay all Hardi with 1/2" OSB. Thank you for contacting Tri-County Construction, Inc and allowing us to bid your project and again, we would like to apologize for the slow response. Best wishes on a successful construction project.

Thank you for your feedback on our review page of Angie's List [member name removed]. We appreciate hearing from our clients and strive to provide the best service possible at all times. I hope you're continuing to enjoy your completed project.
Because a wall was moved in this project, the City of Austin required a builting permit. It took weeks for this permit to be issued but work was finally begun the first part of October, 2012. It must be noted that numerous permits were issued by the City during the same timeframe, which resulted in many projects starting simultaneously. I did feel as if I needed to continually contact staff at Tri-County Construction to inquire about when the next step of the project would be completed or when a sub-contractor would be coming to my home. I totally trusted Tri-County Construction staff to work in my absence but I did not feel comfortable letting sub-contractor staff enter my home unless I was present. I spent allot of time waiting for people instead of completing other activities I had scheduled because I didn't know when or if anyone would be arriving. Tri-County Construction staff were professional and did quality work. Their sub-contractors were not always as good. The floor tile was installed very poorly and had to be removed and re-installed. Tri-County Construction was aware of the problem and in agreement with the re-installation but it took an additional week to complete the work. If there had been adequate supervision of the original installation that "lost" week could have been avoided. The contract for this remodel estimated that it would take six weeks for the work to be completed. It actually took 12 weeks. I would definitely hire Tri-County Construction again and I would recommend them to anyone who needs their home remodeled. Their price was competative, they treated me fairly and their staff were fun to work with. I love my new bathroom and especially my wonderful shower.
Description of Work: Enlarged a downstairs laundry room/bathroom and added a walk-in shower. This work involved moving a wall, adding walls, re-routing the necessary plumbing, building a tiled shower, building a pocket door, texturing/painting the walls and laying new floor tile. The shower was built to provide access and assistance to individuals with handicapping conditions. Tri-County staff were professional, experienced and provided quality work.

In August of 2009, our house caught on fire destroying the kitchen; the rest of the house suffered terrible smoke damage. My husband, who was a construction estimator, took on the task of selecting the general contractor who would rebuild our house - his choice was Tri-County Construction. He felt they were honest with him and he just had a good gut feeling about the company. Shortly afterwords, my husband fell ill and it fell to me to meet with Bob, Wayne and Jody and to sign the paperwork for them to undertake the project. The house is so incredibly beautiful - they brought in contractors whose work was just beautiful and beautifully executed. I was never left in the dark about the rebuild - they explained everything, each step of the way. All of their subcontractors were professional and a joy to speak with. The house we have now is far more beautiful and more functional than it was prior to the fire. I can't say enough about Tri-County. They really took very good care of us. After my husband fell ill, Jody, Bob and Wayne would gently ask how he was doing and were there emotionally for me when he passed away prior to the house being completed. They took care of the house rebuild and took care of me and our kids through a terribly difficult time. Just wonderful, wonderful people and a great company! My husband couldn't have picked a better company to rebuild our lives.I really don't know the cost of the rebuild - that was all part of the conversations that my husband and Tri-County had before he fell ill.
Description of Work: Tri-County gutted the kitchen, and took down all of the sheet rock and flooring throughout the house because of the smoke damage. They subcontracted some of the most talented folks to do the tile work throughout the house, carpentry work, and cabinetry throughout. The carpenters that worked on our house were great fun and allowed us to brainstorm on how we might make the house a little more accessible for my disabled husband. The care and thought that was put into the rebuild of our house was incredible. Bob, Wayne and Jody (Tri-County) took such care of us and made sure that everything was done to perfection, within budget and on schedule.

Overall i give them an A++ For professionalism, courtesy, promptness and price! They were in my house everyday for nearly a year and I enjoyed every minute of it! They really are master craftsmen! I LOVE my Tri-County Contractor!! check them out.....
Description of Work: Bob Jones and his crew are AMAZING! They remodeled my newly remodeled kitchen after our brand new top of the line Thermadore Fridge leaked for months and flooded and molded out my new kitchen. ugh. They tore out, and rebuilt from the cement floor to studs on the wall - a brand new kitchen and expanded our music room and enclosed our porches to add sq. footage to two rooms. They also added a cantilevered walkway. They built a new gym in the middle of the project per our request when we realized we had the room for it! It was PERFECT when they were done! This is one of the ONLY contractors that I have used that works with 100% integrity. In my opinion, anyone that is not happy with the quality work of this company is just difficult to work with. They bend over backwards to make everything they do exactly right! They worked for us for nearly a year and not one time did they complain about the numerous changes that I threw at them, nor did they hesitate to do what I asked them to do with courtesy and professionalism. They always showed up, they always stayed late to get the work done, they always accommodated every need we had and they always had a smile. They did many things without charging us extra because they wanted us to be happy! I was sooo happy with this company I tell EVERYONE to use them first! I used many sub-contractors on this colossal remodel and the only ones that did it right the first time around...was Tri-County! They are the best!

Crew was very concerned about amount of dust etc. which would occur due to tearing up old tile..put up plenty of plastic (we had moved all furniture, dishes, kitchen materials from main rooms into 3 bedrooms even used boxes to store items to prevent the dust from getting to dishes etc.) Their crews worked diligently and consistently unless there was a wait for an item. Our granite was measured by the supplier, delivered on time, and perfectly placed. The cabinet doors and drawer fronts were beautiful and almost perfect. The one door and one drawer that were problematic were removed and replaced as soon as possible. The faucet was installed and there are no leaks. The microwave fits beautifully above the stove. (They had to replace that cabinet above the stove with a shorter one to place the microwave.) We are very pleased with the work and feel the job was done properly. All contact was through Jody in the office who was wonderful, helpful, and efficient. The supervisors were here often and if there were questions or things we needed changed or fixed...they were here to help. We originally wanted tile throughout the house but when that was not feasible, it was their suggestion to go with engineered hardwood flooring (not laminated or the ultra expensive regular hardwood which would have broken our budget.)
Description of Work: Remodeled kitchen by cutting down breakfast bar to make larger counter space, replaced countertop with granite including replacing faucet, removed and replaced cabinet doors and drawer fronts with new, painted cabinets inside and out, installed microwave above stove; installed new front and back doors; removed and replaced approx. 700 square feet of tile with engineered hardwood flooring; removed old tile replaced with new in entry, in the guest bathroom and master bathroom; removed and replaced shoe molding throughout and painted floor moulding throughout. There were a few other things done such as correcting the arch in one archway, fixing some DIY sheetrock work, and fixing a few cracks in corners (a very Texas problem we hear).

I had a very bad experience with them. I spent around $7000 on them. There was major water damage in my ceiling and in several rooms of my house. Everything was in terrible condition. They had given me an estimate, which was looked at as a contract. However, they didn?t get things approved through the insurance that were really important to me. It was a difficult situation. They just dragged on. They didn?t even start work until four months after I had signed in with them. I was living in terrible conditions till then. They ordered the wrong cabinets; the cabinets were too small and they were not made of wood. I had a lot of problems with this company. They weren?t responsive. My health was on the line living in the house which was damaged. I got very sick from the mold and the flooding. I am still not feeling very well. They did a shoddy job and walked out of the job. They didn?t even come back to measure the cabinets. They didn?t show up a few times. I tried talking to them, but the owner wasn?t responsive. They didn?t complete the work. It is an awful situation. I will not use this company again in the future.

The insurance settlement offer for member was initially around $12,000 but through our negotiations, the final settlement was around $21,000. We used the scope of work that was agreed upon with the insurance company as part of our contract. We started the job without a signed contract because member changed her mind on what she wanted done quite frequently. The late start date as she indicated was because she was in Mexico and did not want to start until she returned. We repaired all of the water damage, we repaired and painted some items that weren't insurance related, and we replaced the kitchen cabinets with cabinets that member picked out herself. After these cabinets were installed, member decided that she didn't like them. We replaced several of the base cabinets but to no avail, she was still complaining. It became quite obvious that nothing we could do would satisfy member. We decided to cut our losses and informed member that we would not do any additional work for her. She still owes us over $4,000. We have been in business for over 25 years and have hundreds of satisfied customers; this is the first and hopefully the last customer that we could not satisfy.

They have always continued service and friendship after the work was done. He has great integrity and has morals. Anything I've had to do, I've gone to him. He's always been very responsive to my needs. His name is Bob Jones and he's an excellent guy.
Description of Work: I called him for a referral for a subcontractor.
