Do hire him for small jobs and get on his schedule.DO NOT hire him for occassional use - or big jobs.I was having a big party and called him 2 weeks in advance - and he will tell you he is coming and then be too busy to come - and then let you know at the last moment that he cannot come - when it is too late for you to get someone else. Left me in a BIG BIND. and a yard that looked terrible for my guests. If he had just told me 2 weeks before that he could not get to me, I could have called someone else. He gave me his word, and then didn't keep it. BEWARE if you are counting on him. Always have a backup plan, or a teenager to fill in if necessary.
