I called The Clock Shop to ask about fixing my Grandfather's clock on 8/19/2022. I told them I took the mechanism out and tried to fix it myself. I asked if they could fix it. They told me to bring it in. I took it in and the owner looked at it and said it would be $500 to fix it seeing how I brought the mechanism in and another $150 to bring it to that house to install it. I called the wife and she said ok on the amount. I told him I was getting it fixed for my wife who has cancer. I called him on Monday 8/21/2022 to ask how things were going and he said he would fix it today. He never called to say there was going to be extra cost involved. His son brought it to the house on 8/22/2022 to install it. After he gave me the bill it was $974.25. I told him it was only supposed to be $650 he said they had to put 2 new cables in and straighten the shaft. that was supposed to be included in the $650. Like I said they never called to see if it was ok to just fix it without my authorization for the higher price. I want my $324.25 back that they overcharged me.

He kept the clock for about 6 weeks longer than he promised. When we brought it home, we still had the same problem but he told us he would charge us a service fee to come out and fix it again.

Avoid using this guy - he approach to customers is unprofessional at best and is down right rude, argumentative and demeaning. And he does not stand behind his work.
Response from THE CLOCK SHOP
"It's unfortunate that Mr. [member name removed] was not happy with the Clock Shop. We do our best to stand behind all the work we do. Mr. [member name removed] failed to mention that his clock runs fine. When you deal with Hundreds of customers a month it is hard to make everyone happy."

Warning - using this business could result in unprofessional treatment by the staff. I took my clock in for cleaning & a general "check up". Seems like they kept it forever. I called, left messages, never received a return call. Finally picked the clock up 1-1/2 to 2 months later (can't recall exactly). After a few weeks at home, the clock stopped running on a consistent basis. I returned it to the clock shop. The owner's son was minding the store. He took one look at the back of the clock & saw that a screw was missing. He asked me who had been fooling around with the clock. WHAT???? I said nobody & he challenged me saying that was impossible because of the missing screw. So he called me a LIAR to my face. I didn't take that lightly & the rhetoric became heated. Just then, the owner came back & tried to smooth everyone's feathers. I left the clock for further examination since I felt I had paid plenty for a general cleaning. Again, they kept it for weeks. I called several times during working hours & there was no response. Finally, the owner answered. It was obvious that the clock sat in the shop with no attention. He made excuses & said he needed to run it for another week. After a week's time he put me off for several more days. The clock is running at this time, but if it fails to do so I would NEVER go back to that business. You are better off driving one hundred miles out of your way to find another qualified clock repair shop than to patronize this business.
Response from THE CLOCK SHOP
"Mrs. [member name removed] was one of the most unreasonable customers I have had in my 30+ years in the business. She brought the clock back because she said it wasn't running well. Someone had taken the screws out of the back of the clock. She said she had tried to adjust the clock in the back. We took the clock back and made additional repairs to it at NO CHARGE. The clock runs fine. Not sure how we could have helped her any more."

I reviewed Angie's List for experienced & reputable clock repairmen, The Clock Shop was in my area and had good reviews. I called to ask about repairs on my regulator wall clock that I had inherited from my grandparents. They said bring it in for an estimate. An estimate of "typical" repairs was given as $200-$475. I authorized repairs with a request for an estimate for the repair of this clock when Mr. Bill Kane (owner) could look at my clock. I was called back later in the week with an estimate of $300. I was told it would be completed in a week. The Clock Shop website states "most repairs are turned around within two weeks". Not so, it took total turnaround time of SIX WEEKS for my clock repair.
I called to inquire on repair status a week later and was told it was not yet finished. I called again after another week and was told to expect completion in two more weeks. I called again after 2 more weeks, and was told Bill Kane had gotten backed up in repairs over the Christmas holiday.
The clock Shop contacted me, for the first time, the next week to tell me it was repaired. I tried to pick it up during business hours, and the shop was locked up and another couple from Beaumont were there banging on the door to pick up their clock.
I called and left a message requesting an explanation and the next day Mr Bill Kane called to say he had been out of town and his employee had just "vanished" for the day. The shop should have been open for business. I picked my clock up the next day for the total price of $324.75. I requested a receipt for repairs and services completed on my clock: "Cleaned, oiled, and repaired. Repair click spring, replace old. Regulate and balance."
I would NOT recommend this establishment to anyone for clock repairs . Bad customer relations experience, inaccurate information on completion dates, and lack of ability to detail what was done for the repairs.

We had a Howard Miller grandfather clock running for over twelve years in the same place in the same house without any maintenance whatsoever. We recently moved to another house and when placed in the new location, the clock wouldn't run. I called The Clock Shop and arranged the repair. Bill Kane came to our house, removed the clock works from the cabinet and made the necessary repairs in his shop. When completed, he returned to our house and installed the clock back in the cabinet. This all happened in a few days, just as promised. The clock runs like new and we couldn't be more pleased.

The grandfather movement was taken out, brought to his shop, and serviced. This clock required a home visit. When returning my grandfather clock I gave him my mantle clock to fix and service as well. He did both claocks in a timely manner and for the price quoted. I highly ecommend him for all your clock needs. He also has a forst class store where he sells clocks. Very happy with his service!

I'm very satisfied with the work that was done. The clock looks practically new again. The cost was higher than the estimate, however, that was due to the fact that the damaged weights were not manufactured anymore and had to be custom made.
