The movers moved the dresser downstairs without the drawers in. The dresser was perfectly intact at this point. I asked them if it would be fine if I put the drawers back in and filled them with some items to save some space on the truck. They said it wouldn't be problem. I made sure to ask if they would be able to handle loading it into the truck with the added weight. They said they could do it fine.
After I filled the dresser they took it away to put into the truck and I went back inside to continue gathering items for loading.
When the move was done, we began to unload the truck. We removed the dresser drawers while the dresser was still on the truck (it had not moved from where the loaders put it at this point) and saw the middle support beam was completely broken through by an upward force. When the loaders were putting the dresser on the truck it was clear they rested its entire weight on this support beam splintering it upwards. They used it as a fulcrum point to lift it up. It was NOT a transform break from moving (sliding around), it wasn't a break from weight bearing down, it was a break from a severe upward force at ONE point. The broken beams were pointing straight up. I know this was NOT the result of the move or excess weight due to how it broke.
We called in the company a week later to report the break after things got less chaotic. What we got was a run around and new policies we were not aware that excluded them from liability that we were never informed of when we agreed to the service. For instance, they are now telling us loading the dresser drawers violated any liability they had for damages - we were NEVER told this verbally or in writing. They are also claiming Uhaul holds liability responsibility - while we saw their service through Uhaul we opted to contact them for service directly (cutting out middle-men can help local businesses and prevent miscommunication). They never told us we needed to go through Uhaul for their services if we wanted our items to be protected from their negligence (they also told us they have NO liability insurance of their own because they piggy-back off of Uhaul's - sort of important information customers need to know about). Uhaul holds no responsibility and the movers have no insurance fall back for their services.
Another small thing to note, there was also a trashcan that had a metal top - it was completely caved in. We are unsure how it happened, the trashcan was left upstairs as we said we would move it onto the truck later - and wanted to utilize their time moving heavier things. We speculate they stood on the trashcan or something else. It doesn't make much sense, but it was another item that was damaged by the movers. It was fine before they moved everything downstairs, when we came upstairs the metal lid was crumpled in completely.
In short, the primary item we hired these movers for got broken by the movers, they were highly negligent with our items, and we were not even offered a partial refund. We tried to work with them before this review, but they kept deflecting responsibility and refused to cooperate. I highly recommend avoiding this company.
