After drying the concrete, the flagstones were arranged and secured with a cement mortar. This was OK, although leaving a surface that was not as level and smooth as originally discussed.
Grouting was started, but stopped to gain approval for the color of it. Grouting was continued, but when finished and dry, had no color at all. There were large depressions in the grouting that needed filling with additional grout, as well as correcting the color problem.
After promising to return to finish, John and his assistant have never been back. My mistake was paying for the complete job while there was still some work to be done.
I'd recommend withholding payment until the completion of any contracted work with this businessman.
