I go to the pawn shop right when it opens the next day.  I tell the manager I need a refund for the generator I bought the day before.  He asks me what is wrong with it.  I tell him it runs for a bit, then quits.

He doesn't believe me.  I say "I'm telling you the truth. I just want my money back, like the receipt I signed says".  He says "let's go take a look at it and see if it works." He says "if it works, you bought yourself a generator".  He says "you took this thing out yesterday and did some work and now you want to return it."  I say "no, I didn't".  Then he says "we don't give refunds on items we sell for a discount" (they knocked 10% off the price that was on the tag). I say "what does the price have to do with your guarantee; it says nothing about that on the guarantee printed on the receipt".

So we go outside and start it up.  I say "it needs to be under a load".  So they bring out a small AC unit.  I say "it needs more load than that; I had a freezer plugged into it".  So they bring out an impact hammer.   We let it run for about 5 minutes and the AC and hammer go dead; no electricity.  The generator motor is still running, but no juice. I try pressing the reset buttons, but nothing.

They did give me my money back, but it was not a pleasant experience.

Avoid these guys!  I know when dealing with a pawn shop, you are taking a risk, but these people are completely unprofessional.
